The port tables in the limited manual do describe the rj45 as a "LAN" socket, and the product spec sheets also state "embedded Android" and it is these that prompted my questions. This purchase was made without my usual research time, so it serves me right! I think I will review the market in 6 months to see what is available before buying any more.

Configuration was straightforward. As with all these things planning is key, so sort out a naming convention for the APs, IP address table, Security type and password, SSID etc etc. If you are not familiar with Wireless terminology then a quick google should provide you with a wealth of resource. There is also a lot of Ruckus specific info out there. Zone Director user interface is fairly straightforward to use. Our supplier was happy to do a site survey free and was able to provide demo kit. we actually worked out AP density by walking around the campus and seeing signal availability using laptop. Having done all the planning, the configuration was a doddle. I setup Controller and access points using a poe switch at my desk, commissioned each of the APs, and then distributed them round the Campus. Have you viewed other manufacturer's solutions? And also have you considered what functionality you require now and for the foreseeable future? This was a key part of our selecting Ruckus as it provided a close match for our needs. (we are a special school with 150 kids with moderate learning difficulties)

Hi We installed a Ruckus system here in June 2014, comprised 18 Access points and a Zonedirector 1100 licenced for upto 25 Access Points. All provided on a supply only basis with me doing all installation and configuration. Costs at the time were under £8k after taking advantage of significantly discounted education prices. Cant recommend the system enough. It has been v reliable, no performance issues, and only maintenance has been when I implemented a completely new IP Schema last summer.

Just installed an Activpanel 70" as a replacement for a 10 year old activboard. Have some questions as information is very difficult to find 1. Panel has a LAN socket but cant find a way to configure it in menus, nor the functionality it provides 2. I am sure that I have seen somewhere that the panel has Embedded Android. how do I access this and is it possible to run Android apps on the panel 3. what is the best way of connecting video from Desktop Computer, vga or hdmi via PC expansion card or usb adaptor We plan to gradually replace all of our Boards with these over the next 24 months and really need to be able to use them to the max thanks for any help

Hi Any ICT Plan must be underpinned, and driven by the Schools vision of curriculum delivery, along with known significant changes in pupil numbers/age range/ subjects. This has the convenient benefit of passing the responsibility to the SMT to provide their long term plan if there is not already one Once the development plan has been accepted by the Governors, then you will have a clearer idea of the ICT development required to enable its success. You can then determine what ICT resources and functionality will be required to support that plan, and devise your strategy. Try and use "education" friendly terms to describe the benefits of any investments rather than technical jargon. If you can identify any direct potential for efficiency gains or enhancing pupil achievement then so much the better. Think big then scale down, this makes it far easier to cope with unexpected issues in the future though may cost a little more to start with. Keep everything as Standard as you can and do not overcomplicate your solutions for the sake of it. Just because something is possible doesn't mean you need to use it. The Governors are taking the situation seriously, so see if you can join one of their meetings or ask for a chat with the Chair, this will help enormously in raising your profile and may even give you access to sounding boards outside of the school through a Governors links to commercial organisations. Have a look through previous Governor Meeting Minutes to find out who is raising concerns and in what context. You are going to need a 3 or 5 year replacement schedule detailing any foreseeable major expenditure. producing this alone will help the school plan their budgets. Break any major projects or aims into manageable blocks. Ensure that you can link any expenditure to the "ultimate aim" even if this may take several years to achieve. hope this helps a little. Don't forget that an ICT Strategy is only there to support a business or school development plan, it serves no purpose without one. sorry if this a bit messy but last day of term and I am trying to prepare a new Sever for migration on Monday! Hi Our Sharp Photocopiers were installed with User Codes, However staff could never remember them so they were printed and pinned to a noticeboard next to the Copier.! As copiers are actually in a separate room, I managed to persuade Head that codes were serving no purpose so he agreed to their removal. Best decision, as all "printing" problems then disappeared. Finally got a chance to take board down, the helpful supplier's apprentice had thoughtfully wrapped about 5 m of usb cable in a loop together with power cables and tiewrapped them all together!! Have rerouted a fresh 2m cable and all is well at the moment. Kim

Hi Pete Thanks for your reply, your thoughts echo mine really, I am really fishing to see if this is a problem that others suffer, or whether it is just me. The installation company I use normally do an excellent job, but I think I am going to have to get the board off of the wall and see how long the cable run really is and also check its routing Unfortunately dont have a spare laptop but will move the PC closer and try a shorter cable. I'll post back with outcome

Hi I have 2 activboard 378 installed last summer that both drop their USB connections on a daily basis, sometimes several times in a day, leading to no sound and no pen input.Same model boards were installed around the school several years ago that are working faultlessly. Flame turns red. Have already tried Updating all Drivers on PC Updating ActivDriver Updating Board firmware 8.10 build 7 Changing USB Cable Changing USB Port Checking all powersaving/sleep options Same model of PC with same image in use in several classrooms without issue Have to unplug/replug usb cable to reconnect to the board, however this sometimes takes half a dozen times before it works Using a 5m high quality usb cable causes sound to distort horribly Only difference to other classrooms is that the PC is around 2m from the whiteboard rather than being right next to it. My next option is to remove the board from the wall and replace usb cable from board connector to faceplate. any ideas greatfully received as my head is starting to hurt! thanks Kim

Result this year, new Head has decided its more cost effective for three of us to be chauffer driven to BETT than travel by public transport!! Look out for the Limo

Hi Had similar problems here, however we succesfully use cheap usb-serial adaptors from USB NOW code VE229 + Cable at under a tenner. These have an FTDI chipset and have worked reliably here on Activboards purchased in 2003!! Kim
