speeds ok here and yesterday. I assume the increased traffic is due to update Tuesday? if it is then their infrastructure isn't scaled effectively as this load increase is predictable. I will be discussing a fairly long agenda with our account manager next week. I would also like to know how to join the "many customers" that have been unaffected by all of these issues

thanks for the heads up re price, I currently have absolutely no idea of licencing model they use. As far as I am concerned the cost of our current service is ludicrously high considering the downtime and issues that we have encountered over the last 14 months. we took the hit of the cost to enable the school to have a solid connection and flexible filtering. we are a small school but having a reliable internet connect is pretty fundamental to our daily operation.

I have requested this on several occasions in the past without response. However Dave did say recently that it would be an expensive option. I have contacted Lightspeed directly, given them details of our requirements and have been promised a quotation from one of their Partners to have a rocket on-site ( I know this wont save us from the firewall issues but we have mostly been affected by the dreaded Filter 11 Cluster). I did not mention who supplies us currently just that we were unhappy with the robustness of the Hosted solution. I have also arranged a meeting on-site with our account manager so we will see what transpires.

filter 11 here, but then changed to filter 12 at some point this morning???? got some connectivity but major issues with MS volume licencing centre, youtube etc did get a brief mailshot type email from mr yorke the other day apologising. However was promised telephone call last week that did not happen, I have also requested site visit to discuss options, but not been successful to date. They don't seem to realise that even a 30 minute outage corresponds to (0.5hr x 70 members of staff) 35 man ( should that be person?) hours lost that have to be made up somehow. The pupils have had significant disruption to their learning so goodness knows how they are meant to catch up Totally unacceptable and the constant blaming of Fortinet/Lightspeed is getting boring, The school does not have a contract with those two companies we have a contract with schoolsbroadband. We will now have to consider exit clauses as this level of disruption cannot be sustained

I think it used to be called "Closed Campus" I can recall some communication from MS when it changed saying that this was happening and that the creation of a couple of "mail flow" rules replicated the functionality. I have a 365 group called blocked external and all student email accounts are members of this group. I also test every so often to make sure that it is effective. Mail Flow rules are very flexible and straightforward to set up. I have one student account that if he tries to send to anyone other than his tutor, blocks the message and sends me the email letting me know it has happened.

Hi Dave, I spoke too soon! issues with Filter11 cluster again this morning leading to outage. How do we arrange for someone to visit our site to discuss service stability issues and options moving forward?

majority of our problems have been the hosted Lightspeed (Filter 11). Have asked several times regarding an on site rocket as an option but this seems to have fallen on deaf ears. Have also requested changing us to a different filter group as others appear to be more stable. SB are very reluctant to do so. Firewalling and remote access brilliant compared to LA. Just opened a remote classroom in town and SB technical support have been absolutely great regarding extending our school network to it using EoFTTC. the solution was several thousand pound cheaper than other offerings, is rock solid, and means that all pupils share the same filter profiles etc Just hope that the Internet reliability improves, it is difficult to know how sustainable the current situation is. It would be nice to have a little more info on what the plans are that Dave hints at, could we not have an email as this forum is obviously not the right place to "announce" such plans. kim

thought I would just update the thread I went for EoFTTC for the remote classroom, effectively extending our school network to the remote site. sites configured /routed to our existing firewall and Lightspeed filter by Schools Broadband. Happy days-all seems to be speedy and leaves me with only 1 filter to deal with and a , very, cost effective solution thanks for your help

I have decamped to the staff patio with laptop, copious reading material and desk phone. Thanks for your input I have just received a quotation for a VPLS service which appears v cost effective link suggested is FTTC which for the first address is guaranteeing 71Mb. Time is running out so I suspect I will use that for the remote classrooms and trial DA for teachers etc.

Hi Kim I have been using an RBM 870, Cost new was about £750 ex VAT around 2 years ago. Brilliant chair with allsorts of adjustments and height adjustable sliding arm rests etc. very comfortable. I did have a bit of a battle to get the school to purchase it but once I had had 2 independent workstation assessments, a visit from an Occupational Health professional, and stood my ground, quoting "Reasonable Adjustments to the workspace" etc, they gave way! all my wrist, elbow, and shoulder aches and pains disappeared as my whole upper body is now supported properly. Good Morning I am considering using Direct Access to connect some PCs and Laptops from Staff Homes and small (less than 10 devices)Remote classrooms. Clients will be running windows 10 Edu and Office 16 and will need access to SIMS, server shares etc. I also want their Internet browsing access to go via Main site ISP. Main Site infrastructure server 2012R2 50Mb leased line to internet. Remote classrooms will use most cost effective internet connections, probably FTTC Over the next few days I will be setting up a test server with a requirement to go live Sept 2016. Any help/advice/gotchas etc greatly appreciated We do have a VPN portal but I would like all remote access to be seamless to the user. Kim

Thanks Jon As we only very recently purchased the panel and it was described as a version 2, I had assumed, wrongly it appears, that it would have Android on-board. Unfortunately I didn't go to Bett this year as we had no plans to introduce Activpanels at the time. This purchase was driven by opportunity as we had a duff board in one room and a duff projector in another so instead of purchasing new projector and board (circa £2k) we decided to swap boards and spend the extra £1k to get the panel. Hopefully new range will be out before new budgets kick in at the end of August (we are an academy)
