I belive my trial will end during the holidays when I am not around. When I come back after the holidays I belive 08 will have completely shut down? Will I be able to sort out a product key, enter the key and have 08 back as it was before the trial ended?

You could set up an exchange server and have your LA point their MX records at your server. You would then be able to use their filtering on the mail but have it come in on your server so that you could have larger mailbox sizes.

We had our LA come in and "retune" our cachepilot to act as a proxy for our staff. The engineer wanted to then point all staff accounts to the cachepilot and a disagreement ensued. I didnt see the point as we had our own ISA server sitting on its own box and they had just made that defunct. So after 10 minutes of argueing I let him do it, leave and then just pointed staff back to our ISA server.

Ask to see the schools Child Protection Code of Conduct that the teacher will have to adhere to. Also the schools policy on the subjects are available to you if you were to contact the school. Also your sister would/should of signed an Acceptable use policy when she joined the school it would be worth re reading that.

I assume you mean in a private school there is less money to spend? And do you think its the same in all private schools or something that is common in all?

I am interested in if anyone has made the step from working in a state school up to a full private school and their experiances. What were the major differences you could disitinguish? Were the staff more, or less IT able in a private school? What good and plus points would you give each catagory?

Hi Our DH has just finished his timetable in Nova T6 but the problem we are having is when we print it. The layout comes out without the days of the week in the top table. I try copying to file, a .txt file then opening with Excel however the same happens (that and it looks scruffy). What is the proper way to print in Nova T6 each indiciduals timetable?

Hi I am having the exact same problem, except this time with the key provided by Pugh. They have sent me three keys in total all of which come up with the same results. None of which microsoft activation phone line recognise. Pugh said they would install server 2008 on a virtual machine using the same media they hand out, and they have the same results in that it did not accept the keys. They then told me I should re install 2008 and that should solve my problem. I asked how, seeing as they just did a fresh install and still didnt work. They said they would get back to me. They are now not responding to my emails and the guy I ws dealing with is always "out of the office". Im stuck as to what to do.

Under their instruction I shipped a faulty laptop back to them and was told to expect about a three week turnover. I was surprised when It returned 4 days later. They had never even opened it my seals were still on.

They have tried it again in Bedfordshire and it looks like it will go ahead this time.

Had another today, the lady introduced herself said that they specialise in cabling and network infrastructure. All very happy and chirpy. She asked if I had any plans to extend or re cable any sites and when I said there are no plans she couldnt get rid of me fast enough.

Im sure everyone has a similar experiance around april onwards of salesmen phoning up and asking if there is anything they can quote you for and telling you about themselfs and how many years they have been supplying to education. And most of the time you usually have to say to them that you all covered and that theres no plans for any equipment to be purchased. This year however was different in that I actually do have plans for equipment to get including interactive whiteboards, promethean accessories, replace entire staff's laptops, some new desktops and abit more. So most phone calls I went down the list of equipment and they would go "okay the quote will be with you by this afternoon". And usually after you recive the quote you have no more correspondance with each other. Some salesmen that are actually pretty good and who work for a company you can respect you get a good relationship with. Stone for example the sales rep im dealing with has gone out of his way for me in that I wanted to have a trial of the promethean ActiVote sets and ActiSlates. He said he would contact promethean and see what can be done, and I got a phone call today from him telling me that they are being sent to me for next week and they are going to pick them up afterwards. He also has sent me a trial for two weeks of one their high end desktops as we have never bought from stone before. RM also surprised me in that I cheekily asked to borrow an Asus EEE PC for a week giving the reason that it would be difficult to explain to SMT and govenors how usefully they would be without giving it to a teacher (in this case an SEN LSA) to let them experiance and get behind it and also push for it. The lady at RM said that the stock they have is so limited that they wouldnt be able to let me have one for a while, however she would ask the regional rep if I could borrow his for a while. and today he came to drop it off go through a few things and I spent about 2 hours talking to him. So really simply because of the experiance I have had with two salesmen I choosen to go with stone and RM instead of simply the guys who phone and quote (and them email me two days later asking if im going to go ahead). Altho the guy from RM did comment about my lack of CC4 on my network.

Hi Simon The use we would have for them is for the SEN children who are in lessons but struggle with handwriting. So all that we would need use it for is a word processor nothing too fancy. The LSA would then save their work for them and hand it to teacher. These children also spend time outside of classrooms and often search the internet with permission so the little minibook seems good. I dont need anything powerfull.

I am looking and getting ahlaf dozen of these Asus minibooks. Which does everyone think would be the best option, the RM miniBook or getting the branded EEE PC from any number of suppliers? Also has anyone managed to get a short term trial of one from anyone? As I would struggle to get my senior management to see the possability without letting a teacher give it to a kid and give feedback.

In 2003 when I wanted to walk away from a server I would CTRL-ALT-DELETE and lock the machine. With 2008 I noticed that when I did that there was an option to switch users. And I was able to log in as another user while my Administrator account was locked. Has anyone found a way around this so that when its locked only that person may unlock?

Yes thats very helpfull thank you. Our Deputy went ahead and bought this software 8 months ago and the first reporting session has just been done... and it was a very big struggle. I found errors everywhere, everytime I went to carn for helo they sent me a fix straight away and I mean straight away. I have started to think that some errors are left in intentionally so that the annual support subscription is seen as neccesary. Cynical I know but I have had to fix about 16 errors and some of the less important errors I have just left in. After doing only a single year group I have come to the conclusion that this software needs to be scrapped. However difficult it is to do during a full report session.
