My former Network Manager spent three years out there as Network Manager when he left us - had a good time AFAIK before meeting his future wife and moving on to be nearer her family.

Just had the message space warning popup at login today, so investigated what to do about it. Found you can archive messages, so I thought I'd sort by "Size" and get rid of any big ones - and discovered it sorts alphabetically by number, not numerically - so 1, 10, 109, 11, 20, 300, 40... Any chance of sorting this? Also when you archive some messages, then archive some more, it forgets where you archived to before - could it be set to remember the last used path (per user)? Peter

I've seen a price of £630 for 4 tills, plus the travel/engineer fee bit - it's part of other work so don't know how it breaks down or what editions and hardware are involved. (Not my school) Still waiting for my prices. Peter

Took me 12 months of short return visits to a charity I help out with to get their Zoostorm's to WOL - I suspect it was this same setting I eventually found. Grrr!

Thanks Synack, that was a good idea that I would have followed through if support hadn't rung back. Unfortunately that wouldn't have helped because I still couldn't get into the web interface to add the temp cert - I already have the new one ready to go, I just couldn't get in to install it. If a certificate is untrusted or expired, you can generally click through. If it's been revoked (which is different to simply expiring) then most browsers seem to stop you. I have however had a reply from Support. In IE, you can go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security and untick 'Check for publishers certificate revocation' and 'Check for servers certificate revocation' and reboot your PC. This has the same effect as Synack's suggestion, and lets you click through as AMLightfoot thought. Worth noting (as pointed out by Support) that iOS and OSX don't seem to have this setting ticked by default so if I was onsite I could have used my iPhone or iPad to do this reasonably easily. Peter

Hi everyone, I renewed our website/exchange/etc SSL certificate last week and updated it on most servers. However I missed one, and GoDaddy have now revoked the old one. Unfortunately the server it covers is Linux-based and the interface for updating settings is web-based - but I can't get at it cos the certificate expired! Is there a temporary way of allowing myself access to my own site whilst I swap the certificate, or am I stuck? (I've emailed support for the company, but waiting for a reply) I tried adding it to my Trusted Sites, but that still doesn't let me in. I searched Google, but all responses are quite rightly 'no' to the non-techie people who don't understand the risks and are fed up of cert warnings on sites. Hence trying here for a techie answer, if one exists? Peter

But that's basically what they're now advising, albeit in non-technical speak...? Why is it any worse than what's currently in place? I chatted about our situation with my colleague along the lines of 'if we weren't looking to leave Cunninghams, would we need to do the upgrade' and his comment, which I don't think is invalid, is why do they need upgrading? They never go on the internet, they aren't susceptible to the public internet because of the NAT and firewall. If a new exploit is developed by Mr Nasty, it will usually come into the network on some other internet-enabled device on the network. If this device is Win7, it won't be blocked until an update comes out, so it doesn't matter than XP hasn't received updates; if the device is Win7 and an update has been released, it will block it before it gets to an XP device. Am I wrong? Peter

Sounds like they are making it up as they go along! I reckon they've suddenly realised what a big job they've given themselves upgrading every school in the country* to Windows 7 during Spring Bank or the Summer Holidays, in addition to all the other Year End and new-customer installs they do, so they're wildly backtracking. (*those on Win XP Pro, not EPOS edition etc etc) Tim sent me that quote by email a short while before he posted it and I've been racking my brains to work out exactly how such XP filtering is possible. I've concluded that MAC address filtering or a separate VLAN for XP clients would be necessary? I know WMI could do it for GPOs, but I can't think how WMI can be used to prevent file-share access etc, so it wouldn't particularly prevent them from getting on the network. Their original email should have been along the lines of 'if you are on XP and you don't have network-level security such as Firewall/UTM and NAT at the edge of your network, you should consider upgrading to Windows 7. Anyone with those features in place doesn't need to do anything unless you wish to'. They could even turn on the local firewall on the till and lock down 80/443 and other non-required ports. Peter

Depends on the age of the systems you have in place - all ours, and many others on the other threads here, are Windows XP Pro. Peter

With the impending demise of XP and all the discussions taking place on various other threads, and having received indicative pricing from a local school who've already had their call back from Cunninghams (still waiting for mine) I'm just wondering... Has anyone already, or have your considered, upgrading the tills yourself? All the tills are is an empty WinXP machine with a few drivers (inc touchscreen) and a folder on c:\ with the till software. I guess the hardest bit will be configuring the scan ID's of the fingerprint readers for Biostore (v1). Regarding support, I can't remember having any problems with the tills since we started - it's all been back-end or Revals that have had issues. Thoughts/comments? Peter

But if you're looking at 9.7.1 which according to the post above is freely available to non-premium customers, surely there's now an upgrade path for those customers? I don't know, I'm just assuming. Peter

Upgrade to 9.5 then? It's a seamless upgrade path through Ruckus versions. Peter

Hi, I'm familiar with moving/migrating SIMS between servers and SQL versions etc, so I've no problem with the technical aspect of doing this. My query is about licensing or backend config - does anyone know if SIMS is hard-coded/licensed/configured against the AD domain it is installed on? I know the folder structure of the docstore uses the server name and SQL instance, but neither of those are dependent on the AD domain. I'll be moving SOLUS3 and rebuilding all PCs, so that won't be a problem. The reason I ask is I have a new AD domain setup alongside our current network, which we are slowly migrating packages, settings, user accounts etc over ready to flip a switch in the summer holidays. Just checking if there's any pitfalls I need to test this Easter before we get that far. Peter

Sorry, it depends how you read NewPersn's second post. I read it as he/she had two clients (maths and utilities) with MAK's which he wanted KMS (client keys) to bring his device count up to 25, which makes sense. I then re-read it and posted my second response, because he says they are both KMS already, which I took to be KMS clients, but with your response, I wonder if he means KMS servers? NewPersn, could you clarify ?

In fact, aren't you talking backwards? You presumably want all except your server to be KMS? Peter
