I think a few people have said in other threads that the Hive Cleanup program from Microsoft tends to calm the issue down. Download details: User Profile Hive Cleanup Service You install it on every machine or atleast ones that you know are problematic and it attempts to stop registry corruption as the user logs off. We haven't tried it yet but it is going on our next image.

How much interest do you think you would need? I'm in the Sussex area.

I have a feeling that you're right and someone has stuck their own router on the network (It's happened before). When I get the laptop back I'll check the value in the DHCP just in case though.
-
E.g our gateway would be 192.168.46.7, the laptop has 192.168.1.254. I checked the properties of the connection to make sure it hadn't been set to manual and the entries were clear. I even tried setting my own manual IP etc on there to see if that would clear the problem, everything worked fine with that until I put it back on DHCP.

I'm having a bit of a problem with some Vista laptops at the moment as well. A couple of the students have been unable to get onto the internet with their lappys and it seems to be an issue with the Gateway and DNS detection. The laptops pick up an IP address without an issue but they have completely incorrect entries for the Gateway and DNS. Any ideas?

I never used to a while ago but I've not had the money available to do a decent upgrade

I think he meant the strategic map not the actually battle map :S Is it that bad then? What spec PC do you need to run the game?

I met up with one of my old school friends on saturday and it turns out he was a programmer on this game. Did a lot of the Pathfinding stuff on the war-maps.

Thanks for your help with that, I managed to create a script to do what I needed doing. A snippet is below in case anyone wants to do a similar thing. Just to clarify, we use the Location variable to determine which printers we want that PC to be connected to. The connection is achieved via a script that looks at the Location variable. set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") set oEnv=WshShell.Environment("System") set oPro=WshShell.Environment("Process") dim cn, result cn = cstr(oPro("COMPUTERNAME")) result = left(cn,4) IF result = "IT-O" then oEnv("LOCATION") = "IT" elseif result = "ART-" then oEnv("LOCATION") = "ART" elseif result = "LRC" then oEnv("LOCATION") = "LIBRARY"

These guys wound me up when I used them during last summer. Repeat phone calls every week or two, ended up emailing the second account manager and saying that wasn't a need to phone me as i would call them when I wanted something. That was after they refused to take back a hard drive that hadn't been used but the wrapping had been opened.

The easiest thing to do would be to uninstall it and reinstall the original version minus the patch.

I was doing it simply as a test run with my experiment 2K8 box, so thankfully it won't cause any problems. Still a pain though, could run a 32bit VM on it to take the role of the Print Server I guess.

Any updates on this at all? I have just tried a similar thing to no avail

We have the problem that random profiles will corrupt for no apparent reason. The user can logon but they lose certain settings like keyboard language and theme. A deletion of the profile on the server fixes it for a while but then that profile ends up doing the same. Did wonder if it was the Default Profile on the server.

I'm now on DVI-DVI though it's a damn chore to get it to pick up the signal (biggest flaw of the monitor, it has difficult detecting DVI output.) and the lighting at the moment is day light so that shouldn't cause any problems. Lets see how I get on :|
-
It's running through a DVI cable that converts from a VGA, initially it wouldn't pick up a DVI to DVI connection though I have since seen a fix which i will try later on. I did consider my eyes and will probably get a test, the only thing that goes against that theory is that the work monitor at 1440x900 causes problems but my other home monitor at 1680x1050 doesn't. The 24" is used in my office at home which is lit by a normal energy saving bulb. Thanks for all your replies btw

Seems typical then that I have absolutely no problem with the glass monitor but I do with the Matte one.

Yeah I've fiddled with the constrast and brightness quite a bit already. The default on this panel was really bright.

It defaults to 60. I did change it to 75 which I think was Ok, though I'm fairly sure it's not back to 60 after I was fiddling last night.

Just bought an HP LP2475w 24" Monitor after seeing a few reviews recommending it and I have to say it is a fine looking monitor, good colours, great viewing angles etc all at 1920x1200. But! It seems to give me a headache and I can't work out why, I've calibrated it using the HP software and it seems to be in focus. I had a similar problem with a 19" monitor at work when it was set to 1440x900 so I knocked that down to 1280x720 and I've been ok with that since. I don't want to knock the resolution on the HP to 1680x1050 because then it isn't as sharp. Annoyingly I also have an HP 2207w at home set to 1680x1050 (it's highest res) which I have no problems with at all. The main difference between the 22" and the 24" or the work monitor is the 2207 has a glossy screen whereas the others are matte finish. My graphics card is four years old (x850pro) so I did wonder if it was having trouble with the higher res. Help!

Has anyone heard of or been on any good Server 2K8 training courses? I've seen a couple on Learning tree etc but have been put off by a lot of work on AD which I already know from 2K3. Ideally we're looking at something on updating 2K3 to 2K8. Thanks
