Students hotspotting to avoid firewall
kidpressingbuttons replied to Aldmi's topic in How do you do....it?
Could you not manage these devices in an mdm as a shared device then set a scheduled profile for wifi settings? Just checked and this is possible with Mosyle. So you could lock the wifi to school only from 8-5 then allow them to use their own connections when at home -
Go through a proper Apple reseller to get education pricing. No need to spend thousands on base level macs!

Love Mosyle- have used it across lots of sites and always found it very reliable

Thanks all- from looking at the IPEVO ones I think these will be the best option!

[ipad] Shared iPad - Logins
kidpressingbuttons replied to kidpressingbuttons's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
we had this with 80+ accounts. You cant see who currently has an account. We went ahead and did it and informed staff that this was happening. They get 90 days to change to a new email address so up to them to act on it or not.... -
We are looking at replacement visualisers for our secondary school classrooms. We currently use HUE HD visualiser which work fine but staff would like something with a bigger field of view. Can anyone recommend anything? Happy to use HDMI or USB as we will be replacing our boards soon with Smart Panels so can go straight to HDMI rather than via the PC.

Last I heard the DFE bought 250,000 ipads from Apple and jumped the queue to get them. With the silicon shortages as well its been near impossible to get stock. I have 7 cellular ipads on order since september which were about to ship before the new models were announced which then cancelled them and put us on a waiting list for the new model!

[ipad] Shared iPad - Logins
kidpressingbuttons replied to kidpressingbuttons's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
yeah it would be a good option to have- one less thing to remember and admin! -
We link ours using the free azure link. Works well!

So we have set up Shared iPad and think it will work well for us. We have federated signs setup so the initial login is done with their office 365 creds. After this they can set up a passcode to access again or on another ipad. Is there anyway we can restrict this so they have to use their full logon each time rather than a passcode?

[ms office - 2019] Cant Open
kidpressingbuttons replied to kidpressingbuttons's topic in Office Software
Ok from what I can see the only way to resolve this is by removing the profile from the machine- this should happen at logoff but does not as its a mandatory profile. Only happening on odd machines weirdly -

kidpressingbuttons replied to kidpressingbuttons's topic in Office Software
The file path is 50 characters long so dont think its that unfortunately. They browsing the shared drive and will ask them to try via word -
Keep seeing random users unable to open office applications- just says "Sorry, we couldn't open '\\serveraddress\folder\folder\folder\filename.xlsx'. Has anyone seen this before? We find normally this is windows updates but this is now happen far to frequently.

[2004, 20h2] Mandatory Profiles not deleting
kidpressingbuttons replied to kidpressingbuttons's topic in Windows 10
Thanks- looks like that is it. How would I find out what is causing that? -
We have found that mandatory profiles are not deleting at log off. Anyone else seen this?

We have recently changed all switches to unifi. Ever since, our DHCP dies every few hours and refuses to give out addresses. Only thing to fix it is to reboot the whole vm. Anyone seen this before and can suggest something?

AutoDesk 2022 - a new low
kidpressingbuttons replied to gerardsweeney's topic in Educational Software
Had exactly the same issue with 2021. Ended up just sticking with 2020 in the end as I had wasted far too much time trying to get any sense out of them!
