Just when my opinion of AutoDesk couldn't get any worse, they somehow manage it. I download AutoCAD/Inventor/Revit/3DS Max 2022 - same as usual. Except I then find that in order to create a network deployment of 2022, you have to do it from the Web GUI on manage.autodesk.com under "Custom Install". Go in there - no products listed. That was nearly a fortnight ago. I'm still waiting to get my account fixed. The Education Customer Manager person isn't answering emails or phone calls. My support requests have sat with "Internal team" for over a week. Try on the Community forum, explaining my hassles.. I get directed to a link with Contact us. Where I have 2 options - use Ava (done that) or go on the community forums (ummm...). I found a similar thread on their forum where someone else was having the same issues. They had an old account from before the current 3rd party handling this Education program registration. They needed to get their account updated to reflect that they're the contract manager. With that buzz phrase in my head, I raised another call today using their "request a call back". That call was closed, saying it's a duplicate. My original call was updated today with a "we have fixed your issue - log out, and back in". Go on - have a guess if my issue was fixed. Does anyone have a phone number or email address where I can contact someone who might actually be able to help me? AutoDreck, more like. I loathe, and despise everything to do with them.

Hello, all.. I hope this isn't breaking any forum rules, but I'm getting desperate here! Our AutoCAD R14 licence manager server finally bit the dust, so I'm having to replace it. The problem is that the installer CD for AutoCAD R14 appears to have gone for a walk sometime over the last 7 years when the box was last looked at! I don't need the installer for AutoCAD itself - just the licence manager. The school uses 2 other (later) versions of AutoCAD, but they use the more recent FlexLM licensing application - I need the very old non-Flex one. Trying to get hold of anyone in Autodesk to ask is proving laughable. The school needs to hand in pupil work by the end of the week - hence the panic! Can anyone oblige with a number to call or email address? Or perhaps a download link? Cheers, Gerard

Hi all As my google-ing and best efforts seem to be more of a waste of time than a chocolate teapot, i thought I'd ask the audience on this one. Has any of you good good people managed to get AutoCAD, of any description, to work with users that aren't administrators? Despite the lovely "Designed for Windows XP" logo on the side, I think they kind of skipped a few things on that hehe Nothing on the side of the box where the requirements are listed say users have to be Administrators, so I'm thinking there simply must be a way to do it. I would seriously hope that 2008/9 etc will be better than this annoyance. Have tried all the usual "give Everybody access on all the directories created etc"... Basically, if the user is made a local admin on the machine, it works (although I think it reconfigures itself first) and if removed, double clicking the icon does literally nothing. I've checked the MSI of the installer and its a per machine based install apparently. Any of you good folk have any thoughts on this as we cant make people local admins on their desktops/laptops? Cheers for any help Nath.

Is anyone else having a nightmare trying to renew their Autodesk Educational licences this Summer? We use a group mailbox address that only IT support staff can access as our Autodesk account, this is supposed to be registered as our Institutional/Group ID account, but they are now trying to treat it as a personal account and are requesting verification that the account is eligible. It is a group mailbox, and quite obviously so when you look at the address, but they are asking for proof of enrolment or employment, neither of which can apply to a group mailbox. I have been in a live chat with somebody who seemed to have no comprehension of my 2 key queries: 1) Why is the account not being treated as a Group ID, and how do I get this resolved, 2) How do I renew the contract and extend the licence, as both are due to expire, meaning that we cannot teach their products in the new academic year. A day later I received an email asking me to complete a survey wanting to know how well they did, I gave them some very honest replies. The following day I got an email asking me to verify the account, with links to a SheerID FAQ page, which was only relevant to US customers. I replied to this email (2 days ago now) pointing out the above issues, I am still awaiting a reply, but will probably get a response that I have not responded and the case has been closed. If I go to the Registeronce page and log in, it does give me the option to select the instituional account, but in all other areas, including downloads, the account is being treated as a personal one. I have tried calling the UK head office in Farnborough, but after waiting 45 minutes for reception to pick up and direct me to someone who could help, I hung up. Does this tale sound familiar to anyone else, and do you have a human contact who can resolve these issues??

Read this article on engadget yesterday regarding AutoCad 2015. This is now available for free if you are an educational institution. Education | Free Software For Students, Educators and Schools | Autodesk Anyway, we have installed it and figured I would just share the love. As we all love free software!

I am experimenting this summer with multiuser systems with the goal being a classroom of 24 stations running autocad. My prototype is a 4 station pod built on a Core 2 quad, 4GB machine and I am acquiring various bits and pieces to try things out. So far, I have downloaded Windows Multipoint Server and Softxpand and have been sent a setup for Fiddlehead. I have also acquired 2 dual head graphics cards, 4 USB hubs, and some USB audio adapters for headphone use. Here is my thinking so far: 1. I need one gpu per station so that leaves n-computing out. Everything else can go by USB. 2. Multipoint server is probably my best (but not cheapest) solution if it runs autocad on all 4 stations. 3. Fiddlehead may be the easiest to configure but may not run autocad. 4. Softxpand is the one I know the least about. I have noticed that a few of you are quite conversant with these choices so I am appealing to you for two purposes: I. General reality check on my thinking and plans. II. Someone who might be able to partner me through the process (I could actually pay for this to a limited extent if you have actual experience). If all this works, I have a budget to buy the whole setup with new hardware, so I will eventually be interested in recommendations on computers and and monitors as well. As an additional note, I am not a network administrator, but can learn well. Thanks in advance, Milt
