About KCJeff

  1. Thanks Steve, I've switched to using that as the detection method, but that has oddly given me another problem, the application no longer appears in Software Center. I have tried deleting and recreating the deployment, but that doesn't seem to have resolved the issue, very strange.
  2. Thanks, I know it can be done this way in the task sequence, and I'm using a similar script in my application, but we don't like having separate task sequences for laptops and desktops. I'm deploying post-build, but unfortunately the application detection method is failing. I'm using the 'Registry key contains xyz' function, but it's failing to read the key contents
  3. Unfortunately, in the new EPCM environment, the built-in tool to install WiFi settings onto laptops has now been deprecated, and only works in InTune. We do not use InTune, so I have created an application in SCCM to install this using the NETSH command and an xml file. Whilst the settings install correctly, the only option that I can see for detecting correct installation is the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WcmSvc\CMPOL and that the CMPOL key contains the SSID. I can open the CMPOL key and confirm that it contains the SSID, but the SCCM 'Contains' function does not seem to be able to see it, and so the application installation is reported at failed. So I have 2 questions 1) Has anyone else successfully used this detection method? (bear in mind that there are carriage returns in this value, which may be causing the issue) 2) Where else might SCCM successfully find the SSID to confirm installation?
  4. You just need to start it from cold (powered off completely) and use the INS key to activate BIOS password screen, but it sometimes takes a few attempts. Trying to access from a restart does not work. Why Tosh have to change the BIOS key from F2 to INS when you password protect it is beyond me...
  5. Is anyone else having a nightmare trying to renew their Autodesk Educational licences this Summer? We use a group mailbox address that only IT support staff can access as our Autodesk account, this is supposed to be registered as our Institutional/Group ID account, but they are now trying to treat it as a personal account and are requesting verification that the account is eligible. It is a group mailbox, and quite obviously so when you look at the address, but they are asking for proof of enrolment or employment, neither of which can apply to a group mailbox. I have been in a live chat with somebody who seemed to have no comprehension of my 2 key queries: 1) Why is the account not being treated as a Group ID, and how do I get this resolved, 2) How do I renew the contract and extend the licence, as both are due to expire, meaning that we cannot teach their products in the new academic year. A day later I received an email asking me to complete a survey wanting to know how well they did, I gave them some very honest replies. The following day I got an email asking me to verify the account, with links to a SheerID FAQ page, which was only relevant to US customers. I replied to this email (2 days ago now) pointing out the above issues, I am still awaiting a reply, but will probably get a response that I have not responded and the case has been closed. If I go to the Registeronce page and log in, it does give me the option to select the instituional account, but in all other areas, including downloads, the account is being treated as a personal one. I have tried calling the UK head office in Farnborough, but after waiting 45 minutes for reception to pick up and direct me to someone who could help, I hung up. Does this tale sound familiar to anyone else, and do you have a human contact who can resolve these issues??
  6. I'm having a similar problem with AutoCAD 2020. I include it in the OSD task sequence, along with other CAD packages, but AutoCAD fails to install. This means that I have to deploy the application separately, but it still fails. At the start of installation, in Task Manager > Details you will see 'ADSK Licence Manager Installer' hangs and you have to end the process, you sometimes need to do this a few times and reboot a couple of times before it runs the installation properly. When you see 'ADSKLicensingService.exe' running, then you know it's moving onto the next phase of install. For me, this only seems to be happening on the new SSD equipped PCs and laptops, the older hardware installs normally. I came here hoping for some guidance, but it looks like I need to log this with Autodesk, I hope the above is of some help.
  7. I'll get the network team to try that, as I've had another request for Fusion 360. Do you know if these exceptions also work with the Autodesk360 quick access buttons on the AutoCAD toolbar?
  8. I managed to get the SCCM installer working ok, but Fusion 360 would not connect to the data servers, so was constantly offline. I did get the network team to look at list of firewall exceptions, but instead of one entry point into AWS, there are multiple entry points, which makes it very difficult to control access. As Autodesk do not use a single entry point into AWS, you are pretty much having to grant full access to everything that is hosted on AWS in order to get it working, which has a number of issues from a safeguarding point of view. As we are a large FE college with a duty of care to under 18s and vulnerable adults, we decided that it was too much of a risk to take, so decided not to deploy Fusion 360 in the end. The staff were obviously disappointed with this decision, but understood the reasons.
  9. We use a .pac file that prompts for 'Per Session' SSL authentication within the browser, this was useful on our old flat WiFi network and is still used now for shared devices. As we're now on the Eduroam network, personal devices are authenticated through there.
