Mate, I sell £1.99 cables, profit is profit, and profit is earnt! I hear your point though, but don't worry. Granted, there is next to nothing margin-wise on these devices, and what little there is would be eroded within one support call. Knowing a product is more than likely unsuited to our core audience for a list of reasons is commercial suicide. In my experience these Linx 10 are being sold as a laptop/netbook replacement and I just don't like that personally; e-readers and break out sessions would be the best use for these, but then what's wrong with a book.! We've focussed on building a tablet portfolio of suitable devices that we know have great wifi, more storage, quicker processors, superior build quality, better warranties, great ecosystem of peripherals, typical network deployment structures, consistent supply, and so on and so forth; devices that we know work, are fit for purpose and we can support properly. Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's good, and certainly doesn't mean you should be seduced into creating a need for it as that's just waste, right? In the end you'll buy twice when it breaks or becomes quickly obsolete, or isn't in the end suitable for the requirement and that drives me nuts given the budgets you guys work to. Every penny counts, and my advice is not to put your pennies near the Linx but that's my own personal opinion. I don't like these things, refuse to sell them, do my utmost to dissuade my customers from even looking at them and won't be swayed really. I'm a massive fan of transitioning to Windows tablets though and see great potential in touch enabled Windows 8.1 and definitely Windows 10 devices, but it's got to be on the right device.

OKidoki, let me rephrase. Linx tablets in schools? Two words; bobbins bobbins. And you can quote me on that LOL. Linx tablets at home though? Don't know as having had them in the office here, my experience was nothing like your positive affirmation there @witch. I found it be as useful as a chocolate teapot, which is why we don't sell them.

I think those Linx devices are utter bobbins full stop chap and aren't doing the rep of Windows tablets any good at all.

Most of our laptops ship with Intel N-7260 2.4GHz 300Mbps bgn, and we provide an option to upgrade to Intel AC-7260 2.4 - 5GHz Dual band 867Mbps AC for those customers who are running AC networks or are planning to run AC networks in the near future. It's not a huge leap in price but does depend on the original price of the laptop. It's our intention to standardise on 5GHz cards throughout our laptop range. Cheers, Col

Sorry for hijacking the thread; Sadly no.. @BKGarry's face was a picture though (think Jean Luc Picard face palm). I think he saw the VeryPC hoodies we were wearing, overheard us maybe identifying why some of the devices on their stand wouldn't be appropriate, and decided he wanted a ruck. I was dumbstruck. After being on the @Millgate stand moments before and seeing how they spoke to customers it was like we'd slipped into an alternate universe.

Got it. The newer DaVinci 1.0AIO 3D printer and scanner is £545 + VAT which looks bang on the money. The 1.0A is just a 3D Scanner. I love that they've invented a new word 'modelize". Kids are going to be going round school threatening to modelize each other!

Yeah it does don't it @Jplamb. Let me check with the Vendor that the price includes the scanner as there's a 1.0a and a 1.0AIO. I'll get the knowledge on the differences and the prices.

You can if you can prove the payback. If the old machines use 120 watts which I reckon they may and the new machines only use 30 then that's a £90 a year saving straight away on bills. Plus less noise, less heat, quicker log in speeds and more capable IT resource = winner.

Mike its always a great idea to measure the energy use first. Most councils offer schools free energy IT audits on one scheme or another. This will pinpoint areas that need improvement enabling you to present the data to the SLT and formulate a plan; they even detail a suite of possible solutions which is a bonus. The majority of the energy used by IT can be reduced via simple behavioural change and gamification techniques. Companies like the Global Action Plan will visit your school and give hands on demonstrations to bring everything to light in fun and measurable ways too. Attack this with measurement in mind and everything else will fall into place mate; if you can measure it you can reduce it. I've found that the types of lighting used in schools can significantly reduce energy bills too.
