  1. Got one yesterday. Looks like Monopoly money and feels very plastic. But i do like it.
  2. Had a similar issue when testing win 10. Found that it does not like longer usb cables on the lenova laptops I tried. The toshiba ones were fine with longer usb cables. Not tried the new version of 10.
  3. Had this issue with smoothwall blocking windows update via a proxy. Might be worth looking at if your running anything like that. Think in the end i used a proxy with no restrictions until the LA had solved the problem.
  4. Could it be a bios problem. Try putting it in legacy bios mode incase it is trying to use the registered software bit that locks the bios to the operating system. Might help.

    Go pro?

I have a gopro 4 in school. Just remember you will need an external mic as the one in the case is muffled when filming school plays ect. The quality is great and the fish eye gets the full hall width in so that is useful. Teachers find it difficult to use as they want point and click ( as usual ). To be honest it is over kill and it cuts into 20 min segments also. Any more questions let me know.
  7. Have a look at the synology ones. Always wanted one but have suffered the torment and slowness of a buffalo for 4 years. Everyone that has a synology says the built in operating system is the best. Ebuyer have a 2 disk one at £130 at the moment and I am tempted. Model is ds215j. It has loads of extras built in and the price is falling. Just go to add some hard drives and away you go.
  8. I started 3 years ago in a small primary and it has been the most rewarding job ever. True you have to be versatile and help with stuff outside your job description. As the others have said prioritise your day. Get in a routine and just explain to staff that some IT jobs are a must to do or the network will not work well. They will understand and you will fit into place. I do loads more than the tech before me but they do appreciate it and you find that out at christmas. My advice is just settle in find your place and let the dust from the start of a new school year settle. And most importantly joy.
  9. @Meldrew said about the server sql running. Check that its running / active, think its the tcpip because that is off as standard when you migrate the database.

    Virus removal

Not sure but first thing is to disconect the infected machine. Good luck. Takes some work to recover from it even with a good backup system.
  11. Hi all, Just wondered if anyone else had an after school kids club that charge for child care and if so what accounts package / invoice system do you use ? ours are just using a spread sheet but it seems a very long way of do it. I wanted to make it easier and more efficient and secure. Many thanks ZeroNeg
  12. Is there any load sharing settings in your AP's. Sometimes that helps.
  13. Have a look at one of these http://m.ebuyer.com/?action=searchresults&q=Sandisk&cat=458#/451441 Has encryption software on stick and works ok from what i have used. Price is good also.
  14. Depended on the job. But go to high and no one can afford you. Start lower and when your name gets know slowly push it up. Make sure they are aware of your houly rate at start. You will find they keep looking at the clock and trying to hurrie you along.
  15. Yes for some jobs. But getting someone to sign before you do anything is very hard. They dont trust you after you get them to sign a disclamer. Thats why i tried not to use one but some customers need one as they will try anything to not pay. Mostly they pay and it ok.
  16. You have to think that the extra you earn will be tax heavily. Remember you will have to make sure you put enough through your books to make it look like you are being sensible. You cant do it all cash in hand. On the up side you get to meet so many people, some nice some not so nice and some are just plain strange. The lows are when you have to explain to someone that all the stuff on the dead hard drive is lost and they do not have any backups. Most of the time you spend trying to educate people into not clicking on random stuff. What ever you decide make sure you set yourself hours and stick to them else you will work non stop. Ohh yer good luck :-)
  17. It was as an addition to another part time job that was am only. Most people want you at their house after 6pm so i needed something to do every morning then do afternoon appointments to retired people and the rest on a night. Did not see much of the family for those 5 years. Also make sure you have a good accountant that explanes all the stuff you need to do and can offset.
  18. I did self employed IT support for 5 years in my local area. Same as your offering. I found that because you work from home you are always working. Word of mouth is the main advertising you have. Its so much better than payed for adverts. We have a local chamber of trade and they produce a local directory for local companys thats better than bigger adverts. You will find it very hard to get public liability as most of the insurance companys will charge you an arm and a leg. Stick to the rules for backing up any pc or laptop before you do anything and never offer no fix no fee cos it will cost you a packet. Computers can sometime take far to long to fix especialy if they are older models. Get a second mobile for just work use as 2 years after i moved into schools i still get old customers ringing to see if i will do work for them. I found i had no free time as self employed and only managed about 7 - 10 days a year holiday. Hope that info help but dont be put off mate.
  19. Congrats. Hope you get some sleep before he turns 4. My second son never slep for the first 4 years.
  20. Milgate did our screen replacement. Easy pickup and delivery with an invoice after. Give @Millgate a shout im sure they can help.
  21. Not sure whats your problem but i had an issue were one of the injectors was unpluged, then when plugged back in it still showed as off but just told the software to forget the device and then pulled it back in to the same place and put its name back in and all was fine. Sounds like a software problem. Did you shut the software down and restart it ( i know standard IT question ) Its a bit of work if you need to forget the lot and re set their names again.
  22. Had a problem with a hp switch before. We had proxy settings in internet explorer and that was stopping getting past the logon page on the switch. Removed the proxy settings and got in straight away. Might be worth a look.
  23. Have a look at ubiquti unifi access points. About £160 for a pack of 3. Once setup through the software all you need to do is buy more and add them to the system. Nice and easy setup and can have a guest side also. Would defo have a look as they would save you money that you can then use to upgrade those switches you mentioned.
  24. Yep 11.4 here also. Is anyone else having startup issues with 11.4. It takes ages to load. Thought they might have slowed it to force you to upgrade !!!
  25. Yep it is an old one. Use to play around with it when i first started building PC's many moons ago.
