  1. Yes, 64-bit server OSs are supported. 64-bit client OSs are, I believe, unsupported.

    Snow!!!

Surely if the water was that cold it wouldn't have melted? One objective, scientific study, that's all I ask! Anyway, if global warming is making the UK colder why is it still warmer than it was decades ago in winter?

    Snow!!!

A fair bit of snow here. Not that it'll get me a day off work. Bah!
  4. I suppose technically if the school has a resident caretaker then they could have a child who attends the school. Its not impossible that someone might share the school address, just very unlikely.
  5. So they finally got rid of the 15000 monkeys who wrote Windows ME? Think they're going to sell off the typewriters as well?
  6. Depends what's in their mailbox, and what you do once you've accessed it. The police might not take an interest but your employers might. Given that social engineering is a recognised hacking technique, and research is essential to hacking, I'd say that essentially that's what happened here. It would've been hacking if the password had been changed to something obvious, say the area code of the school, so it'll be hacking if its left at the default code.

    Casino

You get the best odds on Blackjack, particularly if you can count cards, but that's a good way to get yourself kicked out. With roulette you're better off betting on red, black, even, odd, low or high. These give you the fairest payout (house still has an edge though). Hopefully you'll find a European rather than American table. The European tables have a single '0', the American ones have '0' and '00' which doubles the house odds (to about 1 in 20 chance of the house taking everything). If any tables advertise that they're playing 'in prison' rules then these give you a slightly better chance still. What it means is that if the ball lands on 0 instead of just losing your bet its held for the next spin. If you win the next spin you get it back, otherwise you lose it. And for general casino advice, DO NOT TAKE A CREDIT/DEBIT CARD!
  8. I always had them by year, then house, two things which didn't change and let me provide rewards for winners of house contests easily (we used to allow access to certain games at lunch for the leading house in each week).
  9. If you want to make it a little more shiny for users TSWeb Access lets you run applications as though they're local, rather than having a second desktop. They're still running on the server and have normal access to the network, but appear on your own desktop.
  10. See if you can get an MSI of it and roll it out via group policy. Maybe apply that to one station to start with and test it on there, then if it works apply it to the others. Also try turning on security logging failure audits. See if that drops anything into the Event Viewer.
  11. Not in touch with Faza, but as a last-ditch stab in the dark what graphics card is installed? If its an NVidia, try updating the drivers.
  12. At least they are if you plan to have a mixed environment, or change it every few months. If on the other hand you want a nice, stable, single-client environment his is better. Plus his is better if you don't want to grow a beard and wear sandals year-round. That's what you need for root access to a UNIX system, right?
  13. Can you get a GPResult output and have a look through it for any software restriction settings? As another thought, try unplugging a workstation from the network and logging on locally, then seeing if you can run it.
  14. At a guess I'd say you should look at your domain policies. Do you have any management software sitting on the network, or are you just using vanilla Windows?
  15. I'll be at BETT this year over the weekend. Must remember to visit the stand around lunch to grab some of that pizza.
  16. In 2008 you can have two concurrent administration sessions running, whether one's at the console and one's remote, or both are remote. However I don't know how happy it'd be with using the same username for both sessions. As a note, session 0 is no longer the console session. The console session changes dynamically and session 0 is a restricted session for running services only.
  17. Its apparently classified as Adware (Adware.Gdown), but may be a false positive. Supposedly it comes from the gteko.com site.
  18. Can you ping or in any other way access the gateway? If you can, can you ping an external IP address? If you can ping an external IP address try accessing a site using the IP address rather than the common name. If not, what's the full ipconfig of the system and how does it compare to others? If you can access a site with the IP address check the DNS config and hosts file. If you can't, what does the routing table look like?
  19. On my single box I managed to happily get a small test domain running, five servers plus a Vista client machine (obviously toned down graphics-wise). The machine was only a 32-bit 2.4GHz quad-core with 4 GB of memory. It ran them without a hitch. The physical VHD storage wasn't RAIDed, but since it was for a Microsoft course I had software RAID running on a couple of the VMs.
  20. I've not used it for an actual production environment but I have had it running on a server for testing. I've had no problems with it so far using the local disk. I've not tried clustering it though as I only have a single box to run it on.
  21. Smug middle finger up to Apple? Testing out some software which they're offering for free so they don't have to provide support before trying to make something similar for their own systems? Some programmer's pet project which they decided to use as a promotional tool? Trying to boost anything which isn't the open source Google offering? I can think of plenty of reasons they could've done this.
  22. Upgrading my MCSE to three MCTSes, then going for the MCITP: EA thingie.
  23. An easier way might be to create a group within the bin, so that the policy applies to the group, then let them add users to that group.
  24. Thanks to everyone who wished me good luck. Just to let you know I passed both exams, the second by a slightly narrower margin than the first, and now have a whole new string of letters to play with. Thanks again.
  25. I'm taking a couple of Microsoft exams, about two and a half hours each which'll make tomorrow a fun, fun day. Thanks everyone.
