If you really really want to get to field level data retention there are rules and guidance from dfe about how long to keep each item! You are likely safe with 7 years for school data I think it is also 7 years for financial stuff too? If you get into in care data you have to keep it for 25 years if not life in some cases... eeek

I'm bumping this thread and would like to ask @bromcom_PR & @pwainewright to rejoin and push the discussion on the concepts of Cloud vs not cloud and SaaS vs SoSaaS. I'm not saying I endorse SoSaaS quite yet but that is another story. I spoke with @Bromcom_PR last night and while I still feel the approach needs refinement, the topic started and the purpose are still an interesting topic to flesh out, I do agree with that. So if we can keep from mentioning specific product names or obvious features, can we restart? I'm all for being proved wrong!!

I would agree if a mod could extract the items on data security and due diligence that would make sense. It would be good to see how far answers from the #MISChallenge go to answering these questions too...

I would expect nothing less when it comes to user documentation. I was referring however to the resolution to the technical issues, and specifically towards @zag we (Edugeek community) are always eager to hear how customers feel about the products they buy into, the support they receive, and if there are common fixes to issues, sharing those so we all know how to fix them in the future, perhaps reducing your support desk influx.

Ignorance here, but is there no legal protection as the owner of the data that if supplier goes under, they cannot just rip out your server without allowing you to get at the data? If not, dare I say should there be?

While I agree with the points made about DD, the biggest issue I have is the difficulty of finding or accessing such information on suppliers and products (Yes, this is a plug for the MIS Challenge!). I've just been reviewing G-Cloud... my goodness what a messy site, and very unspecific to any sector.

The free version looks to be for pre opening free schools who need to manage an intake before the school opens. A really good idea and very useful for these schools. Its not a free MIS though, you still need to pay for the rest of it when it is open. I know many a free school who would have/would love this though! Where is James to respond to this thread right now!

Is it free, freemium, trial period only? Wonder if it actually has all the features to allow a school to just 'run'?
