@PhilNeal I wonder if you have seen the near consistent responses on here and elsewhere that tells the tale of an incredibly expensive product (please don't mention LA deals!) for what is now something quite antiquated, compared to other offerings. I saw SLG 6 months ago, again at BETT. Is that soon enough? It is welcome to see that there may be a different model of selling this in the future. Perhaps I'm not best to argue this point, you are probably right, and you know me I'm happy to be proved wrong!!!

Sorry Stuart, everything you say is very true and great, you know more than most I think, but I think the simple fact is the apps is tied to SLG so that capita can force the sale of SLG which is stupidly expensive and a ridiculous product given the usability against the time it has been on the market! There has been huge demand for the app, shortsighted wouldn't even begin to cover the decision to tie it in to SLG...

Perhaps though it is the system by which MPs are elected and represent at national level that is the issue. If your local MP is not representing your area, then he needs the boot! Imagine for a moment we gave all money to local government. One decides that roads are terrible so builds a whacking great motorway to the authority boarder. You neighbouring authority has done no such thing, so the road ends up going nowhere... It is a very extreme and silly case, but when you get down to that level of micro management of a country then there is no country.

Doesn't this start getting into the sort of fantasy that Scotland thinks it is going to get, which is they can pick and choose the things they want to have and manage, but all the things like infrastructure, prisons, power, import/export, etc, would be maintained by England? It scares me when there is this constant wish to be totally independent without having a full idea of what being truly independent would entail (That is not a dig at you at all @sted it is the idea as a whole!)

I very much respect local customs and cultures. However why is there a push to REVIVE a language (language being a medium to communicate to others with) that is hardly spoken now and dwindling? Other than to further segregate? How is it useful when no one else will use it?

If you have heard of Groupcall's Emerge app, it is basically that but from Capita. I'll relent from my amusement on how this affects the political landscape and just invite @PhilNeal to give a bit of an explanation as to what it is. From what I remember from BETT, it is a dedicated app that gives basic functionality on the go, access to records take attendance, behaviour records. First iteration is for teachers, branching out to a parental app soon I believe (if not, it should).

Understood. Just make use of the list of suppliers so you have an awareness of who is out there and you can contact. Lets this be a lesson to you MIS suppliers, get your responses in quickly!

I will assume you are referring to SLG being a SharePoint product, as most other parent portal offerings from MIS providers or 3rd parties are 'bespoke' products as well...

@GraemeBC you say a bespoke parent portal... so one that is built and tailored specifically for each customer???

@Ellie04 what is your timescale for possible change. I'm hoping the MIS Survey (see the sticky in this forum) results will be back from many of the suppliers including those you mention in the next couple of weeks which is aimed to answer a lot if not all those questions, from and objective technical standpoint.
