Not at the expense of not giving shows chance to evolve. That's the problem where a series is telling a story that evolves over several seasons, it's like you have to tell it all in one go or you are out!

I used to run IT apprenticeship schemes for a company a few years back, keep my hand in the game. Experiences and programs will vary provider to provider. 1 week on 1 week off sounds very bad! Apprenticeships should focus as much time on the working and less on the studying as possible (and appropriate). It is just as much about learning how to work as well as learning the theory. £2.68 is national minimum wage for 16-18 age group and often is all that is paid (remember they are getting your time and patience as well as free training from both you and provider). It is not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, and rules are changing on this again I believe so keep an eye on this. Personally, I always promote paying whatever you would pay an IT technician that is not an apprentice, give them confidence and self worth goes a long way! Whatever you do, check out the company you use fully for their experience, their OfSTED results, their success rates. QA have decent rep (they are national). There have been high profile cases where companies have not treated their apprentices well (Zenos is one! Just search Google for this. Panorama did a whole program on it). Happy to answer any other questions on this subject if you have them

I get what you are saying but there really is so much more to it than that. I personally don't agree with 'red-tape' other than you have to be able to supply the data in certain standards at certain times. Regulation falls on a much wider scale common to all with the likes of DPA

No but I know I do, and most do. What you suggest is that a wealthy individual who does not need to work to live takes this on? If you have the quality skills to be able to do this well, the it is likely you are well sort after in a job already. In addition, simply being able to build the database and interface is one aspect, totally aside from knowing education data market inside out, having the links to get the up to data statutory information and regulations, and being able to connect to (or better, build you own) the very complex elements such as timetabling, exams management, messaging. Otherwise to be fair, it is very much a large, yet flat database. Regardless of all that... it does cost to do this; time in any commercial world, which this fits, costs money. What about marketing? Sales force? Trainers? Support staff? Are they all going to come onto the non-existent payroll? Or would this project be the exclusive domain of the wealthy who don't have to work? Another point and I know this happened before: How do you make money from this or is it free? If free to schools, would paid advertising creep in? And the big question to make all of this academic: Would a school take on a totally free MIS from a company that made no money, trust all this data where there is effectively no incentive to have the company stick to the terms of any contract. I'd actually like to see what the community thinks of that?

And time is not worth anything? To do this in any realistic timescale this is full time work by several people. I go back MANY posts where I say about the cost of eating sleeping and living... cannot and should not be done in the middle of another job leaving either investment or a long long time to develop. I'm actually flabbergasted you have said that.

There Is Currently no in the project scope for 2 way transfer other than sending alerts and messages and such back. Obviously the system will be built with that in mind for the future.

Yes you are right Phillip that is the current thinking, via dfe (well, the data exchange, not the data warehouse). During discussions it was deemed unfeasible to have school endpoints, all 24000 of them, being aware of all other 24000 schools to allow direct communication.

Philip This will replace CTF and school to school transfers as we know them today. It will 99.9% certainly go school dfe school as you suggest, but school transfer is very much on the medium term plans.

You will likely be very surprised then... projects are stopped at a moments notice often when a new government comes in because it doesn't fall into their political agenda... shall we all play 'name that stopped project'?
