Nothing huge as far as I am aware. There have been a number of upgrades and many new installations of products over the summer, that is the usual September traffic I refer to including some exclusivity across Scotland. You know what September is like buddy. New staff new schools new uses.

Sensible. I'm suggesting the permissions will need to mirror the data the integration is extracting to avoid problems, but ignore me if I am stating the obvious.

Does the VLE integration not extract only the specific information you require/it requires? If you limit that by MIS permissions will that not also break the integration? Just a couple of thoughts of you.

Because that is not how Emerge works. Emerge takes the database snapshot for mobile devices where you may move in or out of connection and then syncs data back again. That is what it was designed for. Imagine the bandwidth for a busy MIS for Emerge if data is constantly being altered, coupled with the fact that you can move in and out of signal so trying to keep a changing database in line with a changing snapshot of the database... and how many snapshots there could be across the school across devices. Again, was not designed that way. Writing back, if you are in signal, does it live there and then in real time.

That is why I did it as lessons, not sessions. It was by no means perfect!

You have to ensure the Saturday/Sunday days are not mapped as statutory days otherwise your statistics will be out.

Back in the day, when I worked for one, the only way to do this in SIMS was to have additional sessions set up for weekends. Don't ask how I did that however!!

I tried this a while back, you can do it but you need to set up 'symbolic links' to your network drive, as inherently Dropbox doesn't allow you to sync a network drive. I cannot remember the link but search for 'symbolic link' and you'll get a set of C# applets to install. This then makes a network drive appear to be a local drive and then away you go.

No i'm suggesting a thorough walk through paper guide given to all staff, and taking the phone off the hook forcing them to read the instructions

Ah gone are the days of hiding them at the bottom of skips... We used one a few years back, and they compared usable and broken equipment before deciding whether to charge or take away for free (which I think is actually very fair). Everything is reused or appropriately destroyed and recycled into other materials. Margins interestingly are very low. PC cases for example are taken to Wales to a massive industrial shredder and turned into beads for building insulation (apparently!)

Well... my old network manager did the same over one fateful summer holidays... changed the external connection details to the webmail system... then emailed everyone with the new connection details...got annoyed at the 97 phone calls he got over the course of a week. The irony was I suggested using a text message service to send the details out! we were going backwards in complexity

In a nutshell, yes you do. It has been a couple of years since I used it but my colleague still uses it for teaching his apprentices. He gets all the study books (essentially the electronic copies of the big study books) plus online activities and now virtual desktops to practice in live environments. You can do the tests onsite but there are some extensive hoops to go through, if you think you become a Microsoft Certification Test Centre. On the plus you can make money (small change) to administer tests for external adults!
