@JordanT91 please PM me your school details and I will get this looked into, just this morning we are looking into this for another school (listed above!). There are a couple of options we can put to you that may improve things significantly, particularly given the parameters you have mentioned. It would be interesting if we could solve the connection issue on registers, would that encourage using the other features too (you mention only needing attendance for Emerge, yet want to encourage use of other features if you move elsewhere)

It's going to be more the case that the app would open and download just the registers (perhaps just for the day or even the next lesson) and the rest of the data would happen in the background. We have to identify what information is needed to achieve that task and isolating that without breaking other data records, do you can do registers and the test of the data happens while you are taking registers.

If you read up a few posts, you will see mentioned some improvements to performance that we are looking at at the moment which will address some of this, particularly getting the attendance piece running as soon as possible for staff. We've known the current situation isn't ideal for a little while and are listening to this feeback. However I'd still like to look into your case because it sounds particularly acute.

Put it this way... does Emerge work now? Then it will work with AD logins too!

Officially it is in beta as we are wanting more scenarios to test against (obviously, as there are many many different setups of AD and SIMS scenarios too). It works for single school (local AD local SIMS, local AD remote SIMS (as in LA hosted)) as well as I believe remote AD remote SIMS. It even works if your LA hosts the Emerge Server too, typically where SIMS is hosted as well. Its gone through a lot of testing (as above!) which is why we have delayed it a bit and also released as a beta so we can continue to monitor with customers and their different setups.

Well, as you asked: Emerge now supports AD integration, so you can login with your Windows UN/PW. One less password to remember, and teachers will always have one and probably remember it too. Well, I like to think so particularly given the news today.

The idea is less a fast sync (although we are always tweaking the sync piece to improve where we can, in every release), more an intelligent sync, getting the data you need first so you can perform x actions while other data is still downloading, as just one example. There are more, but I've already given away enough secrets

I would say that is interesting and is worth contacting the helpdesk. I do not believe it should do that anyway, and more so just for the iPad app. So definitely log that as a case to be investigated.

You have basically described the thoughts and feelings of what we are wanting to do here! Not to take away the value of your feedback, not at all. I'd just reading it with a wry smile because I know just a little more! The one thing we would not want to do is only sync the parts you use or go into, because you might get into a situation of using attendance, going offline, then cannot sync behaviour because you did not go into that section when you were online. No no no! I've seen other apps go this way and it is a real issue. But this is superseded by you alternative. We'll never get away from the need to download 'something' even if it is just your registers, maybe even just your registers today first plus associated student details, there will always be something (take your situation of teacher that has not used it in a while). But hope to make things very much more efficient! I know it is all typed promises, but hope that helps a bit? Still take a look at TeacherApp of course. There will be a best app for your school!

Fully appreciate that. More than once it has been mentioned that the sync business is an issue and as I say we are in the process of making so significant changes specifically to address this. The reason it does this is because Emerge was originally designed to function when you were not connected consistently to the school Wifi. This is still a requirement for many customers. But appreciate that things have moved on and this is why the changes are coming. And thank you for the feedback, it is through this that we make the changes that you want to see happen!

This is in the process of being addressed in a big way. Have you spoken to us (Groupcall) about the things that irk you (clunky) about Emerge?

I've spoken several time on here about my experiences with apprentices - I used to work as an apprentice mentor and trainer (the companies you send them to to train them up and do their 'college' days). I can honestly say it was one of the greatest experiences of my life to work with those young men and women as they started their careers in IT, often in schools, and see the transformation from day 1 to Day 1 + 2 Years when they left. My consistent advice for employers/managers: > Do not expect many skills: Remember that this could be not only their first job in IT but their first job full stop. It is likley that their skills in IT will be reasonable for self taught, but other skills such as personal skills, time management, communications, etc may need guidance on. Remember how your first days in your first job were! > Be patient: This is all new for them, and they may not be sure this is for them in the long long term. > Give them appropriate tasks: Don't think of them as the IT monkeys, challenge them. The right people will crave even the smallest responsibility and relish challenges. Keep them informed on things and in fact treat them exactly as you would a 'normal' technician. > Keep in regular contact with the trainer/mentor: Ask them to help out with things you feel they need help with, that is what they are there for. So if they are shy still after 3 months, speak with the mentor (and of course the apprentice!) and ask advice or ask for assistance. Above all, remember at those times when they are out at the college or trainers, and you are cursing - they are being paid less that half of minimum wage (depending on age), you are really getting free training for them from the college and the apprentice is getting free training too. If you do not see apprentices as an investment then do not bother. DO NOT get them as cheap labour at all, you do them or you no good and it is immoral to do so! There is no issue in cycling apprentices every year either, because it is a cheap way to have someone do the technician tasks, so long as you give them all the training time and support you would to each of them. You have the option at the end to keep them on and take another, for the right candidate! But for goodness sake make that clear from the start! Hope it helps, happy to talk more if needed.

I actually think it was ok. It was very all over the place and fast paced which does attract the new generation, but I was quite pleased to see a lot of the original yet updated designs, themes, etc. It was never gonna be anywhere near the original, it however did surpass the live action film version which was the marker. I wouldn't say failure as it has to be aimed at the new generation of kids... unless they take my idea and make a dark adult live action version... Please... But overall pleased it wasn't terrible... not sure I will watch many more unless I can get my daughter into it!
