We have trouble with our two 5430DL's on our windows 2003 server. They randomly stop in the middle of printjobs with a little pop "error: CMP_EXEC" that when you click ok comes BACK! The only way for me to clear it off is to restart the spooler service. When I contacted Minolta about it, they said it "was something to do with RM, contact them and they'll know" ¬_¬ Not had any trouble with the one on the 2000 server though. -Mint

IE 6. It used to work fine on windows 2000, but I've just upgraded to XP and since then it's broken itself :| It works from here on IE 6 though, so it must be some settings I've got somewhere Thanks Mint

have you given them ownership of them? We have it setup so that all documents are owned by Administrator, and only the administrators can Change Permissions etc -Mint

Your probably right because Win9X can do direct hardware read/writes to hardware rather than have to go through a hardware abstraction layer like XP/2K does. Yeah very true, I forgot about that. Although ironically I dont have File Recovery on the Windows 98 PC, only my other XP station. Used it today as it happens!

This may just be me but ive found in the past that the scandisk for 2000/xp is not as good as the one in 98. This is particularly the case when the disk is pretty damaged (data that is). I tend to find that windows 98 can read more disks than 2000/XP, seems a little more forgiving. -Mint

We have exactly the same problem with Pro Desktop 8 here. We only have the new version in 2 rooms so it was a case of install the package, log on as admin, turn off graphics accelleration, extrude something then logoff. If the extrude fails then run ProD.exe /regserver. Quite possibly one of the most annoying pieces of software ever.

Ahh yeah, just done that. Works a treat, thanks I just use the Remote Desktops MMC Snapin for switching between a lot of servers, does the job for me normally. -Rob

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows of anyway I can make mstsc not aquire the printers from the workstation i'm using to RD. Reason being: last time I terminal service'd into server 2 it BSOD! Only thing in the logs were the printer drivers etc being added :? I have checked /? and there doesn't seem to be a switch or anything, any thoughts? -Rob

I don't think there is a way to prevent certain characters being typed into the box. But is it really a major problem? All that happens is they try to logon, get denied then try again. Not too bad is it? -Rob

can you not just run the IE internet connection wizard and set it up like its on a LAN? Gets rid of the standard IE wizards.

Cheers Geoff, just the ticket. Its not that it deny's me access.... It just gets a bit urrr temperamental if you do things without using the crappy RM tools, of which the RM tools are hideously limited ¬_¬ Plus I only wanted to do it on my machine rather than for the entire network. -Rob

Happy wednesday one and all. Does anyone know how I can override the RM settings for windows firewall that it applies to the domain? But only for my computer, Ideally I'd like to switch it off but if I can just add a few more things to the exceptions list that'd be great. Thanks -Rob

Can you not just disable the blocking of *.exe's? Whats the harm in kids being able to download exe's if they can't run them?

I didn't think this was possible without something specialist from the motherboard manufacturer. I was under the impression that the voltage to the fan wasn't able to be controlled by software unless something bespoke was made for that mobo etc, although I may be wrong. You could always buy an external fan controller and do it manually? -Rob

I'm currently about 75% of the way through setting up moodle on server2. It was mentioned in passing and I thought it'd be better head them off at the pass and get the freeware one implemented before they decide that they "need one". I'd prefer to spend an hour setting up a little bit of php than let them steal money out of our IT budget, because you KNOW thats where they'd take it from. Current Costs: £0 + 2 hours of my time. Seems better than a couple of K for the RM "solution"
