  1. We have a bizarre issue here: All pupils were asked to create a powerpoint titled 'All About Me'. One pupil did and it has managed to copy in to most other users My Documents (pupils and staff). It seems that the folder containing the powerpoint copied over as well as a spreadsheet in the folder. Some pupils were lucky in that they either named their powerpoint something other than 'all about me' or had named their folder something slightly different so that their work wasn't overwritten. Apparently this happened with another pupil using the same PC. Her spreadsheet copied to other users but on a smaller scale. We're on Server 2003 with XP clients. The pupils in question have their home drive mapped properly and group membership is the same as all other pupils. The file/folder permissions are no different than any other pupil. I've checked for viruses, swapped the network cable to the secondary card in the machine (since some of the onboard NICs seem to stop working or act glitchy), checked for any odd software and that she doesn't have Remote Tutor as opposed to Client. The PC was rebuilt at the beginning of April. We have swapped from Ranger to vanilla and are using Group Policies. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

    VLE

    I second this sentiment
  3. I wouldn't mind hearing what Frog users think. We are currently with Uniservity and I have had a nightmare of a time with their roll-over mess up and trying to get anyone from their support to actually deal with the ensuing mess. So, we're looking at Frog, but to me it looks like Life (which we haven't switched over to). If Frog any easier for teachers to learn to use?
  4. Is it possible to use the Promethean pen on a Hitachi board?
  5. Has anyone tried to replace the battery in a Hitachi rechargeable pen? If so, was it successful and how do you connect the metal part to the battery? Thanks
  6. We had the same problem with the same model. Is it under warranty? If so, Sony knew about the problem when I called and it was sent back to be fixed. I did open it up by unscrewing all the screws on the bottom - you will need to find instructions on how to detach the screen from the base as I couldn't see how to do it. Good luck!
  7. Can anyone help with this problem. Publisher prints 4 pages of everything for network users on our HP3600 color printer in each ICT suite. I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere. I tried setting the printer Raw to Lpr but this hasn't made a difference.
  8. Does anyone know how to export the catalogue from Oliver in .csv format? The option is there to export to Word but on opening it there doesn't appear to be any easy way to put the relevant data into a csv. I contacted Softlink who said there is a way but as our support contract has lapsed they can't help.
  9. Thanks for your help. It was found that the whole motherboard was faulty so ended up getting returned. None of the USB ports worked so the keyboard/mouse/usb sticks didn't work. It's up and running now and while very nice the software that comes with it - magicinfo - is tough work in terms of scheduling blocks of, say, 5 minute things every day or week. I ended up finding the database it uses and sorting stuff out there.
  10. Hi all, Hoping someone can help me with setting up the Samsung 400 MXN display. The instructions say to plug in a USB keyboard and mouse to access the Windows part of the display to continue with set up by pressing Alt + F12. I have tried 5 different keyboards and none are recognized by the display - nor is the mouse, for that matter. Anyone set one of these up who can help? Very much appreciated as I'm tearing my hair out and the company who installed are non-responsive.

    ICT Vision

I have just found myself in the same position you are in - the whole vision thing. I have been spending time on the BECTA site for all their info. They have a self review to head towards gaining an ICT Mark. Then I'll be visiting a couple schools who have achieved their ICT Mark and what they are doing technologically and also curriculum-wise. The other person I find really interesting is Stephen Heppell. If you google him you'll get lots of info. I heard him speak last year and thought he was great. His vision of learning through technology - letting kids learn in all different ways is really inspiring but many people find his vision scary - mobile phones, youtube access etc... I know we need to improve on communication and what types are available to us in terms of collaborating - with staff and pupils. Learning platforms are another biggie for us as we're going through that decision making process at the moment. Good luck!
  12. Dwyco Video Conferencing I found the above website when I was trying to video conference with my family. I haven't used it so don't know how okay it is.
  13. I've been having a really bad day but this thread has cheered me up! So, did you buy them all??? ;-)
  14. I would suggest you look at the websites for your local councils as they will advertize ICT Technician positions - Birmingham, Solihull, Worcester etc. You might also want to drop a letter and CV to local councils in case they have an opening for a peripatetic (sp?) technician. It also might be worth contacting local schools to see if they are in need of a technician. I know one guy who left our place and now works at about 3 different schools doing their IT and I don't think those positions were advertized. Good luck!
  15. Thanks for that link. I downloaded the VGA drivers yesterday from Viglen which are the same on the Clevo site. The graphics card is an Intel 82845G. Tried again today with a vga splitter. When you use the video out to the splitter in the back of the Omnino and have a separate vga monitor attached to the splitter it will project to the whiteboard. As soon as the vga monitor is removed it will only project up until the log in screen then no connection. I tried all the F keys as per a laptop but no luck. I may go with a usb vga adapter.
  16. I would say it is their first series. Model is L295P and from Viglen's manual it is design 1 of their model A. Has a 15" screen. On Viglen's website it says it is a legacy model. The school has had them for at least 3 years (04/05). Thanks
  17. Can anyone help me on getting the connection to work from the video output of an all-in-one Viglen Omnino (L295P) (legacy model) to a projector. I have the vga cable plugged into the back of the omnino going to the wall panel. Projector is a Panasonic wireless PT LB51NT. The connection works fine while booting up but as soon as it gets to the log on screen the connection dies. When I log in and go to graphics properties there is only an option to show via the notebook screen - which is the built in screen. When I plug the vga cable in to another monitor it shows the options of showing via notebook, notebook & monitor, monitor. All help appreciated!
