  1. We allow Vimeo and Youtube embededed content, but not Vimeo or YouTube per se. We have Netsweeper and can do this, in one line by allowing the referrer header of the requesting site. It has the benefits of not having to add lines of urls, and when the content on the "Maths sites" for exaple changes, it allows the new content automatically. I presume other filtering providers also offer such a feature?

  7. I really don't understand why school supplier changes/maintenance have to take place during the week when the weekend provides more contingency time in the event of problems. I'm not really clear why major changes which this seems to be have been, take place during term time at all.

  9. Professionally speaking, and stepping back from GDPR for a moment: Who owns the Whatsapp Business Account? (The school or the indivdual). Why was "work inapproprite" communication taking place on a "work" account. Is it a safeguarding risk? How does this fit in the the school's Acceptable Use Policy?

  13. Do you enforce YoutTube resticted mode for your users? This is the link for Netsweeper users https://support.netsweeper.com/hc/en-us/articles/4471813848852-How-do-I-enforce-YouTube-restricted-mode-with-Netsweeper Basically, they suggest you modify the header for the following YouTube domains with: YouTube-Restrict: Strict m.youtube.com http://www.youtube.com youtube-nocookie.com youtube.com youtube.googleapis.com youtubei.googleapis.com ssl inspection must be active for youtube.com More information and other solutions here: https://support.google.com/a/answer/6214622?hl=en Wondering if this woul help to remove unsuitable ads.
  14. That is a very valid point, and as such I do expects ads, but not the tracking, and not some of the malware some of our pupils have been served lately. I also object to companies that charge, but still retain the ads/tracking. But: From KCSIE (my bold): 135. The breadth of issues classified within online safety is considerable and ever evolving, but can be categorised into four areas of risk: content: being exposed to illegal, inappropriate, or harmful content, for example: pornography, fake news, racism, misogyny, self-harm, suicide, anti-Semitism, radicalisation, and extremism. contact: being subjected to harmful online interaction with other users; for example: peer to peer pressure, commercial advertising and adults posing as children or young adults with the intention to groom or exploit them for sexual, criminal, financial or other purposes. conduct: online behaviour that increases the likelihood of, or causes, harm; for example, making, sending and receiving explicit images (e.g. consensual and non- consensual sharing of nudes and semi-nudes and/or pornography, sharing other explicit images and online bullying, and commerce: risks such as online gambling, inappropriate advertising, phishing and or financial scams. If you feel your pupils, students or staff are at risk, please report it to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (https://apwg.org/)
  15. We host a page which contains offensive language to test whether your filter is blocking pages that contain profanities. My ISP blocks "the url of that page" with a url block for that page, and "testfiltering" comfirms that offensive language is blocked. Is that how its supposed to work? I agree it will tell you if filtering is on or off.
  16. I can see the testfiltering.com domain being the referrer of 3 of the five hits, but not for the IWF hit. As we don’t own the prevent and safeguarding reports, we can’t make exceptions. Something also seems odd about a hit to a testfiltering.com’s own url that is coded as a specific url block by our ISP, which generated what I can only consider to be a very spurious claim - given I tested through staff level filtering.
  17. That’s correct! Could have serious implications on devices that get taken home…
  18. Real (thing)
  19. Its a basic "old style" ISP filtering test. TestFiltering.com enables you to check that your internet filter is working correctly without having to access harmful or illegal content manually. We work with specific partners to host test URL's on various lists and have test pages hosted where they will be blocked. That's more or less going to tell you if filtering is "on" or "off"?
  20. I see pupils sitting on various platforms that set work - say Sparxmaths with another Window open with Google or whatever, and a lot of copy/pasting of both the question and the answer going on. For some pupils that fail to grasp an understanding of the work they are being set, this is not going to end well. See also essay writers, paraphrasing tools etc.
