  1. Did you remove it manually ? Is there an automated way to do this via GPO?
  2. I used the same program to make the MSI. All working under local admin/limited user but not under domain account. I've tried removing the Softwrap folder from the MSI but it's still the same. Now when comes to the errors I'm getting 3 error windows one after the other. The messages are: 1. error #5 : you tried to run this software twice, or you dont have the full permissions. in this case contact your administrator 2. Softwrap file error 4 3. Error : Inconsistent files When I give the "Game Maker 7" folder under Program Files full permissions for "domain users" then it works fine under a domain account...But I would prefer not to do that. Any suggestions?
  3. Anyone knows where those threads are? I've been trying to find them for a while! Also tried via google but not much information comes up. I've been trying to get it running under domain environment but comes up with errors. Also the link for the msi doesn't work, but have requested it from them.
  4. What kind of laptops are you using? Maybe there is already a docking station solution from the manufacturer and you can avoid using slow USB based replicators...

    Desktops...

The E7400 is an excellent choise at the moment. Wolfdale core with all the bells and whistles based on 45nm fabrication process. You won't get any benefit from the extra cache on the E8400.
  6. There is this primary school that we do support for, that uses a Dell PowerEdge 860 as a win2003 active directory domain controller. The problem is the storage which is about to run out of. Basically it's using a pair of Seagate SAS 74GB hard drives in Raid 1. All school software, shared areas and user's personal folders are stored on the Raid. When comes to getting more storage there are two options. One is to upgrade the storage on the main Server and another one is to add another Server with more storage capacity. The problem with the Dell PowerEdge is that it is a 1U Server and there is no space inside to put additional hard drives. The only way is to replace the existing hard drives with big ones, which is quite risky in case something goes wrong(except if someone has a different opinion). When comes to the second option I got an old HP NetServer 800(dual 733Mhz P3's, 512MB ECC SDRAM, ServerWorks chipset), an adaptec PCI 64bit HostRaid controller and 2 Samsung Spinpoint 1TB hard Drives. That Server also has builtin tape recorder which will be helpful. I was thinking of getting windows 2000 server or a linux distro on it and connect it somehow on the main Server, then redirect the Shared Areas on that one. Also have it running as a NAS box with free NAS could also be an option. I am not exactly sure which way to go and would be interested to listen to your opinions on this matter
  7. Well it's only second hand equipment I am talking about and I believe people shouldn't have to pay VAT when comes to getting used items from abroad. We pay new staff too expensive already over here. It's that $1:£1 ratio that makes a 300$ laptop to cost £300 over here
  8. May I add a few points. Sending things as gifts doesn't work anymore as the law says that everything should go through charges if over the amount they specify. What you can do is tell the seller to declare it as a used item and mark the value for something like $10. Also not to include any invoice inside or outside of the parcel. Then Customs will not put any charge on your order. If the order has been insured there will be a charge based on the insured value. I have imported laptops from abroad by using this procedure without having to pay any extra money

  10. As a symbian type of person, I am waiting for those nice touch symbian phones/pdas Nokia will announce officially by the end of the year
  11. Well maybe they should switch to SSDs! That will reduce dramatically start up and shutdown times
  12. Definitely interesting, well at least until M$ releases that "open source" is the only way to get windows working properly
  13. Telling from my photo I am definitely the best looking around here

    GPO not applying

It's on the server. I think this is what he means...

    GPO not applying

It should work for every PC that is managed by the domain, as the domain policy takes priority over the local one. Obviously this entry should be disabled or 0 otherwise LegalNoticeCaption and LegalNoticeText will not work. Also try running rsop.msc on the PCs that fail to pick up the policy just after you are logged on the domain. That should tell you if the policy has been applied locally

  17. Yes, Thank God for that! First American black president is a fact now. I supported him all the way. I don't know how much will change over US internal or external politics, at least the world got rid of that useless and much hated person across the world, with the name G.W. Bush
  18. Check this out as well
  19. What are the contents of the disk? Is it a Windows OS? What kind of drivers are you trying to import? If its a windows bootable CD you better use nLite. Its free and easy
  20. Can't think of something else rather than what is been posted already by the others
  21. Also in case anyone is not aware of, to check what sessions are established to the Server use the commands "query session" or "qwinsta" and to reset them, use "reset session" or "rwinsta"
  22. I've been reading some articles about Windows7 at PDC and was impressed to be honest. They seem to make some proper progress with that OS and it's development moves faster than it was with Vista. It's easy to tell that they want to finish it by 2010 and push it to the market as soon as possible. Hopefully codename will not be changed again, as theres already been a change from Blackcomb to Seven!
  23. Hi everyone, Despite the fact that I've been a regular visitor since middle 2007 and try to help whenever I can, I haven't introduced myself yet! Name is Nik and I am one of the IT Technicians at a secondary school in the South of the country... Don't be put off by my avatar, fortunately I do have a face and the Greek flag represents the country I come from
