Doing things the wireless way it can be a pain and requires more effort but eventually everything works. If you apply the mandatory profile the right way it should work easy with a few settings like redirecting the Applicaition Data folder to save some time during logging. If your logon scripts work for your wired network, they should also work for the wireless as they are applied during logon and not startup. What exactly are you doing with your logon scripts? Your GPOs should work as well, you might need to do a few more "gpupdate /force" but eventually they should all pick up your GPOs.

I assume the laptops use the cached domain profile when the staff use them at home. Are you using mandatory or roaming profiles? Since each member of staff have their own laptops, why don't you make a seperate local account and add it to the power users group? That should allow them to do their work and prevent them from messing about with the system. You can even use Windows SteadyState, lock it down and make it mandatory if you wish. When comes to the delay, are you enforcing any policies under the local group policy? Check to see if there are any settings configured under computer config->admin templ->system. Normally if you enable the setting "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" it's taking ages for the logon screen to appear...

If you want to stay with the builtin OS without moving to windows you can use konqueror as a replacement for IE. It can open natively sites made for IE only. Otherwise wine and ies4linux should do the job!

Never seen that error, been using activ primary 2 and 3 + resources on both windows and mac osx. Except a few issues, It's been generally fine for me.

I've been using front motion firefox on some primary schools for more than a year now and i can say that it works really well. I am pretyt sure there is a setting for the the default browser check inside the mozilla.adm file which is being used to set the settings on your gpo. if you cannot you the adm files, combination of normal firefox, overide.ini, mozilla.cfg and all.js works as well as mentioned already...

It turns out that the master laptop had 160GB hard drive and all the others had 74GB drives. The XP partition is even bigger than the whole hard drive of the other laptops and thats why it will fail for net restore. anybody knows a way to resize the bootcamp ntfs partition? can you do it after you have taken the windows image with some software like winclone? or is it better to do it on the master parition with some other software???

hi We are trying to deploy mac os and winxp on 16 macbooks. I have created both images with netrestore help and named them as "macos" and "winxp". Did the netinstall set and saved it on the server. Also did the configuration and also installed ntfsprogs on the netinstall set. The mac image installs fine but the ntfs image failes to install no matter what i do or try. It failes with an error about the ntfs geometry of the partition. On the netinstall configuration I have set the windows partition to a bit a little bit larger. I was reading somewhere that you need to set it to be larger than usual otherwise it will fail. Any fast reply would be really appreciated as we need to finish this today by 15:00pm(schools closes after today)...

I am setting up a Macbook for a primary school with OSX 10.5.3 and parallels running XP on a bootcamp partition. It all runs fine and I can boot XP either natively or using Parallels using the same volume. Now I need to create images for both of them and then deploy the image to another 15 Macbooks. I have read a lot of guides and faqs on how to do this but I am still not able to restore everything back. I boot the master macbook in target disk mode and take image of OSX with netrestore helper from another macbook. I do the same with the bootcamp partition. when comes to restoring it, I get another macbook, boot it in target disk mode and partition its hard drive with disk utility. Then the OSX partition restores fine but when i try to restore the bootcamp partition it always fails. Is it because I use disk utility to make the partitions before restoring them? Or maybe the size of the partitions? On the master macbook both partitions have the same size. I need to make sure both images restore and work fine before moving on with netinstall set and automated installation... Any help would be really appreciated. I have also read the guides on howtomac.co.uk but maybe i am missing something...
