  1. So after backing up the databases we run the migration on the new Server but couldn't get the clients to login. At the end, the problem was found by someone. The SQL Server Browser Service on SQL 2008 wasn't running in the background, hence clients were not able to login. We also applied the latest update and all seems well now.
  2. Ok thanks. I managed to get the file now. As we need to migrate to a new Server, I have setup a new Server with Server 2008 R2 x64 and SQL Express 2008 x64 with SP2. Will attempt to migrate today after 3pm. The way I see it is: Stop SQL Server 2005 on current Server Run Backup routine and backup all databases Run SIMS-FMS SQL2008(Advanced Mode) Select SQL 2005 Database Select SQL 2008 Database Choose Redirection Service(Will that depend if I run one already?) Click on Migrate and wait. Other than that, will I need to move any files to the new Server? Since this will be a new Host, I guess I need to change the location of the SIMS instance under connect.ini ?
  3. By looking at the root of ..\SIMS\Setups the only close file is SIMSInfrastructureSetup.exe and SIMSDocumentServerSetup.exe
  4. I've just run SOLUS but cannot find the SIMSSQLInfrastructureSetup.exe file, although I did enable "check for infrastructure updates" http://i52.tinypic.com/2hzijc1.jpg Am I missing something ?
  5. Ok cool, thanks everyone. I will have a go tomorrow, when I get back to school.
  6. Many Thanks. I found the pdf file! Since I am a still newbie when comes to SIMS, can I just confirm something. Do I use SOLUS to download the autumn infrastructure update? Will SIMSSQLInfrastructureSetup.exe be included in the update?
  7. Thanks, will have a go. Where do I get the latest version of the instruction manual? That's good news. In that case do we stick with 2008 and upgrade to R2 in a few months?
  8. Thanks guys, I've just seen the latest requirements and 2008 R2 is not listed. Basically the person who was in charge missed the deadline so we now need to migrate as soon as possible. Our local authority will charge for this, so ideally we need to do it ourselves. I've been looking into other threads but I cannot find a link for the Capita tool. Has anyone got a link for this?
  9. What happens in case you need to move from SQL Server 2005 to 2008 R2 for SIMS? Is it just a matter of backing up and restoring the databases to 2008 R2? Any help would be really appreciated.
  10. Sorry I meant once the profiles have been configured. Example of lock down registry settings can be found here. We have a number of laptops that we use for conferences and special events. I found locking down the registry this way for different profiles works quite well.
  11. Then you could just copy the profiles on the other machines or use a logon script as suggested by burgemaster.
  12. Hi there I know a primary school that uses the HD flip cameras if not mistaken. I've configured the computer images myself and use the k-lite full codec pack. I am pretty sure the imported videos work with movie maker but can check.
  13. Also it may be a good idea to use mandatory profiles for the pupils otherwise the logon times can increase dramatically especially over wireless.
  14. No issues here. During Easter Holidays we finally got rid of Mcafee and replaced it with NOD32 across 500machines, desktops and laptops. I've spent a few hours on the phone with ESET Support as I was having issues with the latest version and been told to stick with version 4.0.474.0 for all the PCs which has been very stable till now.
  15. Hi there Are you using network logons? You could open up registry, navigate to hkey users, then load hive and open the ntuser.dat of the account you want to lock down. Lock the profile as you wish using registry settings and unload hive. Then move the profile over to your domain controller and link it to the user you want to lock it's access down. Ta Nick
  16. Hi charliem I had to delete and re configure my DNS settings. Then problem was fixed. As srochford suggested please check.
  17. Apparently the Revo is getting an update soon with Nvidia Ion 2 , question is how soon? Maybe that will mean cheaper existing R3610 soon...
  18. Amazing monitors those look like. Was the cost the reason you didn't go with the BenQ G920WL ?
  19. That's very cool. Are you running them on 32bit or x64? Did you make an image with W7 for them? What kind of monitors are you using? Any reason you went with 16:10/9 format?
  20. Just one of our main IT suppliers(Misco) but Acer apparently won't give them the loan unit.
  21. I'd stay stick with the dual core as 2 is always better than one and 2GB of RAM is a minimum must for W7. I am hopefully getting an evaluation unit soon and if all good will order 25 of the R3610's for a new Suite.
  22. Since it's 2.5" and only IDE I doubt it will need more power that what is supplied by the USB port. Some chipsets have low powered USB ports so it's worth attaching it to another system or use an enclosure with external power as suggested. If still nothing appears under disk management the disk has probably had it... Also maybe it's worth booting off a knopix cd and attach the disk there and see if it's listed under devices
  23. As Intel released a whole new series of Atom CPU's this year we should have many new nettops quite soon from Acer and other companies... Interesting point is that some models from the Z500 series support VT-x which means you can use XP mode under W7.
  24. Decision has been made. It will be the a mixture of ProLite B1906S-1 and ProLite B1706S-1
  25. I think I will go for the ProLite P1704S-2 Anyone used it before?
