So it is but then a parent got a bit miffed when daisy couldn't get the same level of service she gets at home. We don't advertise it as a service level but it dosn't stop the moaning and groaning

We use Ruckus but find that evenings/weekends the kids complain of slow connection etc.. Some of it is down to where they are, AP's dropping coverage when its busy so if they are in an end room they loose signal. I was thinking of fixed ethernet for laptops/PC's (not that they have PC's) to take the strain off the Wireless. We have times set for the wireless but if I had fixed as well I would need to limit these. Does your school offer a service level or do you just advertise it as a add on?

No CISCO, HP PRocurve and other HP Apparently they have tried limiting bandwidth on ports before but we now have a larger connection (100 as opposed to 20) so that may help. CRON - will investigate.

Question for those of you in boarding schools or colleges with accommodation. Do you have wired connections in student rooms or just WiFi. If you have wired how do you stop those pupils from maxing out your bandwidth streaming media and downloading files (if you allow that sort of thing) If you have both do you set a cut of time at night and if so how do you implement this on the wired connections. Do you guarantee service levels or just see it as an additional perk. I’d be much obliged for any answers to the above or any additional comments about network access for boarding students.

Staff and pupils need the key for the WLAN and then authenticate via the zone director to AD. I'd hazard a guess that someones let slip the password again.

Hi, we use Ruckus and have a number of WLANS including 1 for staff and 1 for pupil, each has its own password. Just looking on the monitor tab and I can see a number of puils on the staff WLAN. Stupid question time - does this mean that they are authenticated to this WLAN or is the WAP that they are near picking them up. I've only just changed the staff login/password and will be a tad p*55*d of if someone has given out the staff wifi password again.

Hi, trying to allocate a couple of websites as 'trusted' for our accounts system but when I come to add them in gpmc the 'add' button is greyed out (see attatchemnt) Confused as to why or what I am doing wrong. Any pointers please

^^ you assume that parents have common sense You also assume that children tell their parents everything and never get murdered by a stranger after they tell a 'white lie' about being at a friends. Build safety in is surely better than having to do it retrospectivly?

An app that encourages young people and children to go to known 'hot' spots - Its asking for trouble (even if something bad only happens once) .....ok these will hopefully be public places but it dosn't rest easy in my mind.

Fixed!!!! Thanks for your hints, I'd got so wrapped up in the problem the answer was easy. Group policy applied to students object didn't have the correct entry for the DC (2008) so it was trying to apply from the other DC (2003) which didn't have the Windows 7 templates so the folder re direction was not applying if that makes sense. Oh well only 4 weeks till the end of term and I then get shut of the remaining 2003 server.

I was just thinking that, put a new build in an OU without any GP's applied to it. Also wondering about AV as a possible cause. What gets me is that on the same PC someone else (i.e staff memebr) can log on and it dosn't happen, only happening for the pupils which made me think about the login (vbs) script.

I've tried it in an OU without any software restrictions and it still happens on the PC. Any way of testing the host executable? Re immage PC and it still happens.

No they can be in different OU and the login will work on one pc in the ou but not another.

OK I have a very annoying problem that I can't get to the bottom of. Server 2008R2 Domain Windows 7 Workstations On some PC's but not all when a pupil logs in they fail to map their network drives and I get the following error in the attached document. Checking System Log shows the other errors. If I map the drives manually in Explorer they work! The user can log onto another PC and dodsn't get the error. I've re imaged a PC and it still happens. I've refreshed the DHCP and DNS on the machine and it still happens. Give the pupil as staff logon script (as a test) it dosn't happen which makes me think logon script except it will work on a different PC. Must be missing somethin obvious? error.docx

Hi, My DC is on its last legs, HW fault and in 6 weeks were getting new and shiny VM solution (currently all physical) Got a spare old tower server so built a DC to be a replacement for failing one. Anyone simply explain how I replace the old one with the new one and keep the old name and IP rather than have a different DC name or is that not possible? If I demote it can I rename it to the same name as old one, change IP to old one (while not wired in), turn off old one and turn on new. Any pointers to easiest way would be much appreciate.

We have users on mobile devices via their own data and they also had the same problem, looks like a blip in the tenancy. Coincidence? but I was tidying up our Yammer after a few kids got on before I removed the licence so had to delete them from our Yammer page.

I'll have a look. One schoolboy error, not having a copy of my alternative credentials and having to guess the contact number and alternative email.

Wish I knew, we've had 'outages' in the last two days where outlook clients loose connection and people are unable to log into webmail. Today I was unable to log into the back end. Placed a call but now its back up again. Sure i'll get asked what happened and why, gonna have to think of some realy tech sounding b*ll*x for them

OK our Office365 is down, no emails i'm ignoring the phone - WHO DO I CONTACT about this (sorry for shouting) Feels like a stupid question but am damn sure I will be asked have I spoken to Bill Gates or someone else at MS p.s. its never happened to me before

Now I didn't get any errors but I found that untill I enabled it for everyone (some people had disabled it themselves) then it wouldn't disable accross the board.

I ended up using this site https://www.cogmotive.com/blog/office-365-tips/enable-or-disable-clutter-for-office-365-user-mailboxes but did have to enable all firstly before then disabling it, seems to work but am sure the presence of the box will confuse our staff.

bump bump ^^ Just to make it clear I wan't to (if possible) mass remove the clutter folder from outlook, I have disabled the feature!!
