There may not be that much multithreaded software about, but remember you can set application to processor affinity if you want to and a cecent operating system should migrate even single threaded applications across cores as is required.

If anyone goes on training paid for the by school, the training manuals go into the ICT documentation library, and of course any recurring issues and procedures go into your online knowledge base, and they share the training around.

Could you parcel areas of responsibility out . Network Management Software - Packaging, Commisioning Hardware - Inventory, Ordering Third Party Liasion Helpdesk Management - Take job, prioritises and allocates them, and chase you and other techs. AV Support Look at the strengths, what do they enjoy doing, ask them what they would like responsibility for. THe ultimate responsibility will be yours, but you can hand a fair amount off to them and just retain sign off rights. Welcome to the land of management. Trust them, let them cock up and fix it themselves without jumping in to quick, commonly known as giving them enough rope to hang themselves.

I have bought loads from these guys. Refurbished Mono LaserJet Printers Some of have come in with really low page counts i.e. 5000 others up to 40000, however I still have Laserjet 4's running with page counts up to 750000. So as long as you don't mind re-furbished printers try them out.

Bart, A bit of advice here from someone who has had to sort through a heap of CVs in the past, and I hope you don't mind me being critical. Now you are applying for an IT job where attention to detail is critical, so get someone you respect to read over your CV. You might be a nice bloke, but as usual first impressions count, and the very first impression that I got before even reading your post, was "whoever this is doesn't know how to use capitals." Let me give you an example of why this may be important: If you use a naming scheme for 200 PC's and you mess up the upper/lower of the name it will then create an issue if I am reporting on these PC's in a list. Give it a go and try upper/lower case sort in excel. Then think something like a schools Management Information System(MIS), Can you imagine sorting a list or 1200 students alphabetically. So I have probably made some grammar/spelling/capitalisation mistakes here myself, and please feel free to point them out. But it's true first impressions really count. -
Is there a standard for patch panel cabling colour coding?

I use Red - servers Blue - Phones Green - Links Black - Student Network Yellow - Admin Network Purple - Door Access Pink - Camera System But that just my network. -
Assuming you have tested / checked the following. Access the pages using a browser on the local machine, if command line only try links. Check the apache/webserver log files.

To RM or not to RM, that is the question...
budgester replied to Little-Miss's topic in Network and Classroom Management
So from the vanilla network point of view, do we have any resources available that would help create a good vanilla network for a school ? I.e. How to deploy software How to script and share printers Best way to use profiles GPO templates and settings. How to config WSUS. A good AD structure for schools How to allow remote document access Linking Systems - (MIS,Library,Cashless Catering,VLE,AD,VOIP) Step by step planning a school network. With all the good free edugeek tools available we could bundle a load together and end up with a really good competitor to RM/Viglen/CSE etc etc. Now I know that every network is different but the majority of us are doing very similar things. -
Well no surprise there then.

The latest version of Debian.

Zimbra (on debian is my preference), and authenticate it to your AD. Simples.

Domain Controller not reading mapped drive!
budgester replied to gloriousglenn's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
THis is the order I troubleshoot IP with. Get a pad of paper and sketch a grid, create a checklist, or something to record results. Make notes of every change you make on the equipment. e.g. Server 1 - re-installed driver Server 2 - changed ip from 1.1.1.1 to 1.1.1.2 This will allow you to check later on if the changes you have made are making things better or worse. So onto the testing, and treat this as a drill. 1. Ping 127.0.0.1 This will make sure that TCP/IP is set up on your machine and is working correctly. 2. Ping ip.of.this.machine. If the PC has an allocated IP address ping it, this will tell you if the card has IP configured correctly and the network card is working. 3. Ping the device at the other end of the cable. Are you connected to a switch with an IP address ? If so ping it. If you have access to that device then Ping the computer This will make sure that there are no routing problems. 4. Then ping another PC/Server on the network. Try multiple devices, e.g. DNS, Gateway, Printer. -
This would be the line that you need to change. Change localhost to the IP or DNS name of your server.

Check the moodle apache config or the moodle config file. You need to check the server address that is stored in one of these config files as moodle seems to do url creation from a base address in one of the files IIRC.

Bah, now your just being sensible, where is the fun in that I ask you.
