We had exactly the same problem with a Keyspan. We couldn't fix it, and in the end we installed a PCI serial card.

Have you tried putting ned.school.local into the proxy exceptions for the droid? If that works, you could see if putting *.school.local works so that all local addresses are bypassed. I dont' think you are ever going to be able to get the droid to browse just by typing http://ned because Android doesn't do simple name lookups, only full name lookups (in my experiance - HTC Desire). Unfortunately, our office manager wants the attendance information in SIMS as soon as possible, and having to sit, twiddling her fingers for 1/2 hour during registration time is not efficient. I think it is a really bad design on SIMS part that it doesn't check if a register has been altered when a teacher clicks save.

Hello,We are now doing all of our registration electronically using Lesson Monitor. We are having a problem with marks getting overwritten when 2 users are trying to mark the same pupil. Here is the situation: 1. Teacher opens Register for AM and starts marking register. Anyone who isn't in the lesson gets an N. 2. While the teacher has the register open, our attendance officer takes the messages off the voicemail and enters the marks onto SIMS. 3. Attendance officer clicks Save 4. Teacher clicks Save If the pupil that the attendance officer is in the reg group that the teacher was marking, then the mark that the attendance officer will have been overwritten with the N mark that the teacher puts in. Has anyone else come across this problem, and have you found any way round it? Regards, David Also posted here

Yeay, this is excellent news We have Windows storage server 2003 which includes iSCSI target, and I've been wanting to upgrade it to 2008R2, but to cost of a WSS upgrade is several hundreds as there is no educational discount. iSCSI is the only thing that has been keeping me from installing Server Standard on it as we use it as a low-cost dev SAN for VMWare. This means that we can get our file server compatible with Windows 7 finally (after upgrading the clients last year) with out having to shell out.

If you enable verbose login messages (How to enable verbose startup, shutdown, logon, and logoff status Messages in the Windows Server 2003 family), you can then see what is causing the login to take so long. My guess is folder redirection, we had a problem whereby Win7 didn't like having folders redirected to the users' home drives. We fixed it by using the UNC path.

I've tried SP1RC (took an age to install), but that hasn't sorted it. I'll try it when it's released and see if it fixes it. I didn't get a dock I'm afraid, just the slate. The wireless is connected, and I can login fine with the accessibility keyboard, but it is a faff to enable it each time. Mine looks like the first picture, I have to manually enable it from the accessibility settings each time. I want it to be like the second one, which looks much better and integrated. If you upgrade it to Windows 7 Pro (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/68843-rm-slate-100-a.html#post617727) and join it to the domain, have a USB keyboard to hand, as you'll need to press ctrl-alt-del to logon. Once logged on, disable the need for ctrl-alt-del. One that DB showed me, but hasn't mentioned, increase the DPI to make the icons bigger and easier to touch.

I have now received my Slate, and my method above does work to upgrade it to W7Pro (not enterprise). A couple of hints for joining it to a domain: Make sure you have a USB keyboard to hand, because when you first restart it, you will need to press ctrl-alt-del to login, which you can't do on the OSK. Once you are logged in, go to control panel > user accounts > manage user accounts > advanced, and uncheck require ctrl-alt-del to logon. Also, regarding logging on, I have come across this issue: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/69272-rm-slate-logon-screen.html I dont know if this is just my computer or not, but definitely an issue if you are going to have kids/teachers trying to log on. Hi, my RM Slate has just arrived, and for the most part, I'm loving it. I upgraded it to to W7Pro and joined it to the domain, but now I need to put my password in to login. The problem wit this is that when I resume from standby, the on-screen keyboard does not appear automatically, and I have to click the ease-of-access button, uncheck the on-screen keyboard option, recheck it and click OK for it to appear. This is a pain, and makes logging on quite a bit longer than it would otherwise. Has anyone else had this problem, and if you have a Slate or other Win7 tablet device, could you try using a passworded account and see if you get the same issue? Thanks, David

You probably want to set the append period for the length of time that both servers take to backup, probably 1 day if you backup both in the same night and the overwrite protection period to be 1 day shorter than when it will be next needed, e.g. if you have 1 tape for each day on a 3 week rotation, you should set the overwrite protection to 20 days. This will prevent Backup Exec from using these tapes until the protection time has expired, and it is that tape's turn. David

Hi, We have a similar setup with a Quantum SL and BE. What you are seeing is actually normal behaviour for Backup Exec. When it needs a new tape, it will pull an 'overwritable' tape from any media set that has one available. To achieve what you want, you could either adjust the overwrite protection periods, or setup different media partitions on the loader. What we do, is we don't actually allocate our tapes to specific days or weeks, and just have one media set that BE uses for everything, BE then automatically uses whichever tape it thinks is best. We identify the tapes by barcode, but also stick a label with the date when we remove them incase the BE server is down and we need to find the latest set. David

Thanks to falling in love with the one I saw on EG BETT stand, I have now ordered one to trial. We have updated eeeBox PCs to Windows 7 Pro by entering the code found on this page: Configuring KMS Clients into the Anytime Upgrade window and letting it activate against our KMS server. I'll try doing the same on the Slate when I get it next week.

I think on Ruckus, you can set a max rate per WLAN, Stuart will be able to confirm. We don't use it though. While you say that Meraki looks easier, and I wouldn't know about that product, Ruckus is really one of the easist systems I have ever used. Also, if I was looking at it, I would be very interested to hear the answer to Stuart's last question regarding what happens if the internet goes down.

I use 3g watchdog to monitor how much usage I'm using (not a lot as I am in range of wifi 80% of the time), unfortunately it doesn't tell which apps are using it, but it might help track it down. I think what you were thinking of was the battery usage monitor which is very detailed on the Desire.

With Ruckus, you don't need a VLAN for the guest access. We have an ACL, which specifies that the guest network can only access the default gateway, proxy server and a couple of local web services. We don't have any VLANs and our guest access works fine. Regards, David

Ruckus can do everything you want. We have 1 network setup for RADIUS which all our school-owned laptops have access to and 1 guest network which uses guest passes which we generate. You can also setup a guest network to authenticate against AD, RADIUS or the internal database (although I think the internal one has quite a small user limit). The guest network is not on a seperate VLAN, the ZoneDirector has a built in ACL to control which addresses/ports/services that clients can access. Get one of the Ruckus suppliers on this forum to send you some demo kit, and I'm sure you'll be pleased. Regards, David

I agree. It irritates me that I have to sort out problems with students' websites when they've used a WYSIWYG feature in Dreamweaver and have absoutely no idea how the code works and why their links don't work, etc. Although I would be kind and let them use Notepad++.
