Mac, it's always worth while checking to see if you can see it in DNS before you run the ipconfig /registerdns

We make all our staff walk, and if you do it with papercut, you get users to log in to the printer (we even bought a card reader that students can register canteen lunch cards to) to release their jobs with a per page cost charged to the departments (through a departmental selection box that pops up). As some departments bought their own toners and paper etc, we don't quite know how the price is compared, but when asked if they wanted the old system back earlier this year, the only ones who wanted it back are the ones who struggle to use a computer...

Have you made any changes to the network at all? The other question to ask would be have you got VLANs at all? In the mean time have you checked if the machine is registered in DNS if it needs to be on your network?

all of our ones are in the corridors, - where possible we put them in lobby areas - so under stairs, in little bits to where doors used to be etc... How many students have you got, we have 1100, and have 4 colour and 5 mono, with one colour mfp having not even reached 200k prints in just over 30 months, and 1 mono that has only just reached 300k prints. All the rest are currently on about double or treble that. We use Sharp printers through a local company, and the support is far better than direct for about the same price, if not less, and they allow us to keep a sizeable stockpile of toners on site too. We even have the MD pop by for a coffee and chat regularly!

Got some 6 cell Acers in one of my primaries, and they are usually good for 2 hours heavy use in the morning and another hour after lunch, but that only happens if it has been plugged in properly on both the laptop and the charging trolley is plugged into the wall too!

I wonder how much that cost google then? As surely they will have to rebrand all of the buildings, stationery, crockery etc... Oh but at least it's tax deductible...

Does anything show in event viewer? Does it do it for all accounts or just some as there could be a profile issue. Have you tried it on a clean machine with a clean install of IE11? Also, do you need to use IE? Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox both seem a lot more reliable and faster.

You say you have disabled all add ons, does that mean you have opened up " Internet Explorer without Add-ons" or manually disabled them? Have you checked the installed updates too. I know I had a problem on an older version where I had some patches for another version of IE installed. The other option would be uninstalling each update for IE11 in date order most recent first and seeing if that makes any difference?

Tracked it down, the reason it wasn't working was RMConnect Postgres service was failing to start with the issue of bogus data in lock file postmaster.pid. renamed the file, restarted the service and it all worked again. Cheers for your help iForgot!

When we changed to MFPs we sold a load of ours on ebay as spares or repair simply because that way we don't have to offer any support or have to test every single one of them. However as you didn't pay VAT on the items you will need to when you sell them. Your finance team should be able to advise you on that one though.

If I set one, I usually set the min and the max to 1.5x the RAM. Home PC has 16GB RAM and a page file of 24GB. For normal machines that aren't heavily used, then Windows will deal with it, however if you are doing a lot on it, then set one manually. I have previously used a 20GB SSD for it, but I found that installing it in my netbook was far better use of it really.

Where abouts in the UK are you Steve? Might have one going spare in one of my schools. I believe its either a T12-ER or AR, can never remember which one is which!

For the equipment side of things, your own set of ladders is always useful (just make sure you clearly mark them as NETWORK or they go walkies... Everyone knows IT also need DVD Duplicators, can be really useful, similarly if you make DVDs you need to be able to print on them too! On a serious note, if you have the money, have you colour coded your cabinets yet And by that I mean a different colour for each room? Can save hours and hours of needless stress when something goes down later on! Similarly the Dymo label printers are really useful and so are batteries.

Depending on how much you are going to print then you can always have a look at the Kyocera FS1061dn (2100 page toners for around £45 each) or if you can stretch the budget a bit higher (especially if they are going to be used a lot) then the Kyocera FS2100dn is a good bet. The real advantage for those is that they have 12500 page toners that can be picked up for less than £75 each!

Big fan here on the Kyocera front too. Got some older and newer models (not one of the current range, but one of 'last years' models through a supplier a couple of months ago with a massive saving). So far they do seem a lot more reliable than the HP bunch we had before. All depends though on what you are using it for though. At one school I work at we have got rid of nearly all the individual printers, and replaced them all with 8 MFPs and (despite printing actually going up) overall costs based on what just our budget and for departments who bought through us is down.

Had a look at that soon after I had posted - program is visible under the processes in task manager on the forest root, but doesn't actually open, even with DNS stopped...

We got rid of loads of these recently too! I thought the limited edition ones were the ones that actually worked without any issues? As we never ended up with any of of the non limited editions then. At least the glass on the screens was hard to break though!

Good afternoon, having got the rest of the system up this morning, we can't access the RMMC. Looking at Services, the RM Service Host hasn't started properly (even after restarts and looking at Tec1751186. Despite waiting to hear back from both the LEA service desk and RM (neither are being particularly fast) I was wondering if any of you wonderful people had come across this before, and if you did, how you got the system working again? I am getting the following message when attempting to start the process manually "Windows could not start the RM Service Host service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We have a few hundred Zoostorms here, can't really fault them. Ours have a 3 year warranty where they send out an engineer. All the parts are off the shelf and the current set are Gigabyte MBs. Yeah, they aren't bullet proof and blanking plates are flimsy, but what can anyone expect at that price. However be warned, always keep a couple of spare boxes around if you have a return to base warranty as they do charge for replacement boxes. Support on the phone isn't great, but they do have some good phone support people there too.

looks like it is not going to be hugely easy to pull the keys off either... Might be worth looking into that!

I still use PS/2 over USB. Simple reason is it works with my KVM switch and at home I can turn my PC on with a PS/2 keyboard but you can only wake it from a USB keyboard. As for the future, I see inkjet printers going down that route quite soon. More and more people are moving towards Laser printers for home use, based on the price. You can buy a colour Laser for less than £100, and for £150 you can get a colour laser with scanner/copier functions!

I know when I spoke to our regional sales manager at BETT this year to find out some info about what was happening, I was told that they would be making a change, however current service levels would be maintained and that they would notify customers closer to the time with all the details. No mention in January about any potential downtime in warranty repairs. All I can say is thankfully we don't have many RM machines left with any warranty.

Just got 16 Lenovo Essentials with i3 processors for a primary school - got the advantage that they don't have the trackpoint or the reverse mouse which can be a real pain. Build like you would expect from Lenovo too!

we always lease MFPs simply because if it goes wrong then you can just call them out and they have to visit and diagnose the problem within the SLA. We have 9 MFPs around the site printing on average about 8-9k pages a day between them (and 4 small laserjets where they are needed or at least claimed where they are needed). We couple that with papercut and then can bump the printing costs from our budget onto subject departments! Can't fault our service provider, we even have the MD pop in for a coffee every now and then!
