we are in the process currently at rolling out a One Device Per Pupil (Kind of BYOD, but iPads purchased through school, but are the responsibility of the children, and parents can insure them through a school purchased policy) meaning that currently all teachers who teach the years completed will get an ipad. We are set to roll that out to the whole school and bring in a potential leasing agreement for 6th form devices)

All our MFPs are Sharp, with 1 ricoh which is only used when absolutely necessary as it breaks down so often. The contract expires soon on that thankfully, then it will be all Sharp MFPs with a handful of HP Laserjets for specific staff who need a printer locally. Something I would suggest is making sure that you get the encryption/delete function installed, as it can save you a fortune when you come to get rid of your printers at the end of their life, as the company will have to strip out the hard drive and destroy it, whereas with this, they don't.

Next your going to tell me Ladbrokes and Coral don't have stands!

I know one of my colleagues has recently had a trial of a Lenovo Miix (even if the spelling does make me want to not buy it on principle) and seemed to think it was quite good. Got the advantage of being able to use it as a tablet. Might be more aimed at staff rather than the kids though.

WE use a card printer from DigitalID where we pay £70 for 100 miFare cards and a smart single sided colour card printer which we bought through our printing card company. It's not hugely fast, but does the job for staff cards, and using ImageBase pro then you can save time when the inevitable happens, and (mostly teachers) lose their cards!

This is my 3rd visit to BETT, and the first one I am actually kind of looking forward to... No one else from work is going, (normally 1 member of SLT and my boss on the same day and a colleague on another day) which means I can actually get off and do what I want to which is nice!

We create something in photoshop and then take it down to a printer locally, and they do their magic and send it up in a day or 2. Last set were cheaper from them than my personal cards ordered with rush delivery from VistaPrint too!

I hope you and your team have plenty of patience! We started earlier in the year and I reacon about 5% have been warranty repairs, and about 10% breakage. Not even a year into the project...

We always die the death during the exams period. Most of the jobs then are just to keep the system ticking over and dealing with any issues that come up. Apart from that, we are heavily encouraged not to do anything that could cause any issue at all on the system. We normally use this time to order the stocks in - but there is only a limited number of batteries, CDs, DVDs etc that you can order really... Thankfully I have a load of primary schools where I work at to help mean that I at least stay busy. Well that and continual insurance and AppleCare claims that we have had to do since we started to roll out ipads...

It's surprising how many people can't resist turning off a button that says "DO NOT SWITCH OFF"... So much so, we are tempted to hook up the switch to a buzzer or something so that when they do turn it off, we get some enjoyment out of their faces!

We did ours ourself. Based on the school plans, you can easily redo all the desks etc, and chose where you want the power and network points. Lighting we weren't allowed to even consider moving lights, as the work wasn't financially viable until the roof was condemned and then they just brought in a lighting contractor linked the the ceiling fitters to put the new lights in according to guidelines.

We just use selecta mark for the school details and have a sequential number on the bottom which we record. Then use a rhino printer to mark location of the machine on it. Either way we could work out where it was meant to be!

We had until last year an old monochrome (well black and green) CRT monitor on a standalone non networked/non internet enabled machine running Win 95 that was used to run a laser cutter with a USB floppy disk drive to save the work to... Not a clue how long it was there for... All gone now and replaced with a shiny new machine which can actually properly run the software and they can even make edits to the work they want to use on the laser cutter!

Ooooo, was wondering what to do with the 4 boxes of floppy disks that someone gave me...

The same thing we do every Christmas, Pinky - try to take over the world! On a serious note, drink too much, ignore the diet, not sleep enough and become grumpy by the end of it before coming back to work and thinking that was a wasted break!

Another one to only give it a wash with some 2 in 1 shampoo when I have a shower, and give it a quick trim twice a week to keep it relatively tidy... Not quite sure what oil is meant to do to your beard except make it slightly greasy...

If there is a PC near by, then you can always just run a USB webcam into the machine and get them to run a piece of software to put it up on the projector? I know we have that on a new clamp which was advised by Science for it. Ours is run through a Microsoft LifeCam, yes, it's not amazing quality, but it does the job and when it dies/someone puts it a bit too close to the heat and it melts a bit, its cheap to replace!

I quite like the Brummie accent, and the valleys accent and yet I don't like the accent in North Wales very much though.

My boss registered me this year, and he must have been unwell or something, either that or was trying to get me to do something... Got my stickers ready to prevent unwanted scans too! Just waiting for the pack to arrive and the phone call from a former NM who now works in the front office to challenge us on it!

We had a trial iBoardTouch which had a great stand which you could wheel around, and in one school I have managed to arrange a 3 week + christmas trial of a promethian touch TV which is moveble. Depending on make, some offer their own base for it which if you can afford, I would suggest - less need for extra drilling or messing around with, and you know it will just work! Always make use of the wireless and hang a box for the keyboard and mouse on the case to stop them wondering off (especially if they are wireless too...) Apart from that, all you need is a long power cable, or a power cable plugged into an extension/cable reel. We have used a 5m lead when it was on trial, which was ideal in all but 1 room.

Our art department has an Epson Stylus Photo R2000 I believe, with the refillable cartridges. Probably over their budget, but it is only used by A Level art and photography students who need to use an Inkjet - printing on special paper etc, everyone else has to use the MFDs around the school! If you get the refillable cartridges, be careful not to get air in the nozzle, as it can use about a quarter of a cartridge of ink to clear.
