Yep, think its something I missed in the default domain policy. Found my GPO backups from the old 2003 DC from before migration about 11 months ago, the basics are there and just need some updating. Just imported and tested them and they work! countless hours saved and some hair loss averted. only all the user accounts to make and add every pc to the domain now. Still running most things from scripts which were backed up, but kept the same DC hostname so that should save me some time too! Time to read up on GPOs again once this is done.

Just can't get any user GPOs to work at the min, they don't event show up in RSOP or GPRESULT

Done this already set up as DC with DHCP fail-over so far, once I've some more HDDs I'll be setting it up with DFS on all shares and try to get it to a point of being able to take down one dc and the other take over completely.

Hi all, I've got the fun tast of creating a new domain my school after DC died and no backup was usable. Only raw data. Looking for some ideas as whats best to set in group policies as many predated me. unless anyone knows if you can copy them from the backup on the sysvol folder.

Office XP sorry (misspelled word, that'd dyslexia for you) Yes all user Home drives mapped to X and folder redirection on My Documents. Annoyingly it does indeed have my network places but I'm missing My Computer (I may have removed this in GPO for some reason.)

Hi all, I'm having an issue with ms word (Office XP! yes you read that correctly), when a user goes to save as and select the drop list of locations, it lists all domain computers (Server 2003)! Any ideas as to stopping this hellishness? Thanks Chris

Thanks so far all, its a bit of a paint to look at as it happens randomly too. just managed to look a one of the pc logs and it appears to be ID: 510. Just changed a couple of settings: enabled 'Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon' loopback processing mode was disabled changed to not configured will see how this goes. I'd love to update to 2008 if I can get any money from the SMT!

Hi all, Not sure if this is the best section for this but here goes. I'm having an odd issue with windows 7 client computers applying GPO's in the school I work at. When users first log on the user GPO isn't always applied, if the user logs out and in again the policy is applied. This only happens on my Windows 7 Machines. Background: Server = 2003 Standard 32 Affected Clients = Windows 7 Pro 32 GPO's are set up with separate computer and User GPO (different GPO for Pupil and Staff). Other GPO's apply items such as printer settings software and some scripts. Additional - my logon scripts contains the GPUPDATE command which may help the second logon. Any Ideas?? Thanks

Hi I'm not sure if your still looking, but i found your post looking for some print management software. I use PaperCut Print Logger to monitor printing. Its a free bit of software that records all queues, I have this installed on our schools print server, it logs all basic info but its great for tracking.
