I have several PC's that have Relatek Nic's in them. I boot from floppy and then image the machine by RIS. The machine insatlls the image fine but on reboot it has not joined the domain. I have to log in as local Admin and then i get the prompt for 'found new hardware' I just ckick next , next and it auro picks up the driver. But it needs me to agree to the driver install as it is not a windows signed driver. I am a little confused.......if it boots from a floppy THEN.......? I also wondered if you can put Driver Unsigned Ignore anywher ein the sif file.....will this help if so is there any wher ei can find an example.

I have set up a network @home for testing a lot of things i do at work as most of you know there is never enough time in a working day. I have a problem connecting to my pc using Remote Desktop Connection it only gives me the Guest option which is greyed out and an option to put a password. I want to be able to log on as myself to the pc. I think i need to change a setting to dothis but dont know what. Any ideas?

I have been told to look at upgrading our current Sophos version. Our head of ICT has had a letter telling them about Enterprise Console. My boss (systems manager) has passed this on to me....as he cant be asred......! I have checked our server and it seems to be running SAV Admin, as i can tell nearly clients are updating ok. I manually did an install from the i386 folder on the server and checked the version which was 4.0.xx at this point i am not convinced that all clients are the same version. i have read all the post on the forum about issues with people who have upgraded to 5.0xx and i am a bit worried. i have a few quesions i am confused with. 1. Should i upgrade if so how? 2. Can i install the console instead of SAV admin and still keep version 4? 3. Do i need to completely unistall off the server and do fresh install of EM Library and the console? 4. is it right that you cannot have version 5 on a RIS image (somthing to do with the SID?) Please advise me

On my sif file I have this, I know now to change the 0 to a 1 on the autopartion line. But what does the MSDOSinitiated mean?, can i get rid of that line?

How much would this be? Where do I go to get it? What reasons do I give school for paying for this?

I have created a Fully Unattended XP PRo SP2 SLipstream cd that also installs OFfice 2003 and other software and also a lot of drivers in the $oem$ folder. It works very well for a standalone pc (not done a unattended for a domain because we use RIS) I have mainly done this for experience and to understand unattended install and $oem$ procedures. My question is this. Why on my disc do i have to go through the menu's to tell it what partiton and size to choose. On RIS you just log on to the domain,login . choose image and thats it. Is there something i have missed or have i done my CD correctly and i just need to add somthing else to my unattended files?

How long do you think it would take to copy 70gb the first time?

I have recently set up WSUS in a test enviroment and all seems to be working, I wondered if our PC's , all XP SP2, have Net framework installed or do es it need to be done manually or does WSUS do it? ALso will WSUS pull down Net Framewoork 2.0 or is it a manul ainstall again through a msi? Please advise my little brain again.

I have read several post on here baout RoboCopy and if i am perfectly honest i have never heard of it. I have read the post about what users to to do their back ups. I noticed quite a few use NTbackup but tohters use Robo Copy. My questions is...............if i need to back up 70gb of Home Directories is RoboCopy quicker than NT Backup? We are trying to juggle around our back up procedures becasue of time issues and wondered if RoboCopy was quicker.

Any advice on this please

On the staff only users i have set up a profile path for the user that keeps all individual staff profiles Ina folder on the server. I did a couple of theses manually but then run a vb script with %username% and changed them all, so far so good and all is working ok. One confusion i have is that in the GPO for staff in User Configuration>Windows Settings> Folder Redirection> Application Data It is also set to redirect the profile. Is this correct or do i only need the one way of congiuring it? Also the Desktop and My Documents is the same and the user gets a H: drive mapped for their network area. I am a little confused. I think the My Documents need to be there because if they save in My Documents instead of the their H: drive it automatically puts it in there? (is this right?

I have 3 servers that i have created a background bmp witht he name of the server on it. Trouble is when a differner tech logs on to the server they do not see the background i have created. I want it so that who ever logs on to the server gets the background that i have created. I know this can be done because we had some LEA laptops given to us which had the LEA's background on them and who ever logs on to the laptops gets the lEA background. Sorry if this is a bit basic but I am on a massive learning curve.

Problem is......we have already had the demo fo rover a month back in October. We installed it on 25 machines in on IT room. My own personal opinion was that its cr*p. We put a few buzz word sinto a already default library and left it for a month checlikng occasionaly. It found all sorts of screenshots but most were stupid. A sample word was 'sh*t' but it did a screen shot of every word containing thse letters ir Mashita. Also for bullying a racist reason we put 'P*ki' in as a word and it picked up screen shots of pakistan etc. We told the Head of ICT it was a waste of money ( a large amount at that as well as a annual fee) but he took no notice of us ( or should i say the Sys Manager)

I have installed Thunderbird last week and have an email account and RSS subscriptions set up in it. But now when i use IE and choose File>Send page as link> it opens Thunderbird instead of office. I have tried to rest IE settings in Tools Internet Options back to the default settings but it made no differnece. Any ideas?

Any idea how in ISA 2000 ?

I have been playing with Net SEnd script, trying to send messages to users desktops while they are logged on, but it does not seem to work. Some one told me to check that the mesenger service was turned on on the GPO (or domain GPO) that the computer/user was in. I have no idea what this means and have tried to look in the GPO but have had no luck. DOes this service have to be on to use net send and other message type scripts and if so can someone explain a little more to me and tell me whe e to look please.

I have been trying out today Administrators Nasty File Search but keep getting regular errors. 'Run time 53 & Run time 75' ANy ideas. It seems to work first on my search selection but i do not choose delte files until i have checked the log. When i have checked the log to make sure there is nothing untoward i then run the scan with the delete files option ticked, then on the second rescan it comes up with the erros. I have tied this installed on 2 differnet machines and still get the errors. Am i doing somthing wrong.?
