I have not played around too much with Domains before so watching the It-Idiots podcast has been really useful to me. I have watched the first 7 episodes and decided to set up a little test network so instead of watching, i can putt he stuff into practice to make it stick in my mind more. Here is the scenario, One Domain, 2 DC's. 2 sites, one DC in each site. Replication set up and working. In the podcast on Sites and Replication they put the two DC in separate sites to cut down on authentication. They set a site scope up for the second site so only ip would be given out to that site. My test network has a 192.168.1.100 to 200 ip scope the 255.255.255.0 subnet. I connect through a wireless 4 port router which has the ip od 192.168.1.1. How can i simulate having the second site on a different subnet range of say... 192.168.2.1 to 200 with 255.255.255.0 I must admit my networking knowledge is not the best hence the question. I just want to try and follow the podcast to help me set up my test network as near as possible and not sure if i can with my home set up.

I have set up this today in a test environment with a 2003 server running DHCP and with Anywhere TS TFTP service. I wanted to use the software because of its capability of have a splash screen on start up. I am windows person and have no experience of Linux. I have played around with this al morning and can't get the thing to work. The PXE client gets a DHCP address but cant find the boot file. PXE-T01 File Found followed by PXE-E3B TFTP error. I have tried all sorts, double checked everything and still no good. I fol owed the install file from the site and also tried one from THinstation.org and still no luck. Can anyone advise. In the tftp32 server it cones it detects the client but says 123 system call CreateFile. The filename, directory name or volume label is incorrect. As i said i have double checked everything. I have googled to check the DHCP scope options and i have all these correct as well Arrrrggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Could you giove us some idea on what prices/details you found out about? ALso have you got anything set up yet at your place?

In all the primary schools i support they all have vanilla 2000 and 2003 networks. I have seen a job position not far from me which is more money but it is looking after a CC3 network which i have no experience with. Can someone explain to me what this is please?

I have set up a Server 2003 VPC as a domain controller on my work pc. I also have set up a XP Pro SP2 VPC as well. I gave the Server a 192.168.1.1 static ip address. I have configured the server as a DC with DHCP and DNS. I have to give the XP Pro a static IP as well to get it to talk to the domain as it picks up our work IP range as default form the network DHCP server. I thought once i joined the VPC XP box tot the Virtual Domain server, it would then pick up a DHCP from the virtual domain. But as soon as i tell the XP box to get a DHCP address it defaults back to our REAL network range which is in a 172.*.*.* range. Is this correct, if so how can i test if my VPC servers DDHCP is working? DO i need to remove the NIC cable from my test box? or add a second NIC?

Have you got any info/websites on this, the reason i ask is that the pc's i intend to use as thi clients use dto run XP all be it badly. THey were very slow to log in to the network and pull all the policies over and not to mention Sophos. HOw do thin clients deal with Sophos/Anti VIrus?

XP CLients running as thin clients? Hows this work? On the conference site, is the hand out refered to on the presentation the Word Document configuring TS?

I have read how to set up a Windows 2003 server with Terminal services on and DHCP and i can cope with that no problems. I have read a little about the client stuff but this is where i get stuck. The pcs i intend to use for the clients are all the same spec, with NICS that will PXE boot from floppy. SO i know i can boot from floppy or cd. I could leave the old 20gb drives in them? Is this a good idea or waste of time? When the client gets to a log on box is it the same as the rest of the fat client domain? If so do they see a Server 2003 log on box as the server is running 2003? Does the GPO use the same policy on the client as it does ona fat client in the domain? Sorry but i need basics help please so i can sort of imagine this before set it up

I have no real idea on what i am doing on this. I know how to set up the Windows Server and the DHCP but the thin client stuff i need to read more and pick brains. I have read the Thin station site and must admit have learnt a lot already but there is a lot i don't understand.

I have been looking to day into trying out thin clients. I know the usual names branded around on the forum but i decide to do a little Google for myself. I found Anywhere TS and decided to give it a try. I do have spare hardware to try it on now but i also want to try it on Virtual PC. Has anyone else use AnywhereTS and even tried it on Virtual PC 2007?

I have been playing with Opera browser just lately and i really like it. The only trouble is I can't seem to find a Google Toolbar for it on Google. I really like using the Google toolbar and especially the spell checker when i am on forums like this. does anyone know of a Google Toolbar for Opera (or similar)

I have had IE7 installed for a while and have had continuous problems. After browsing for around 10 minutes it stops working. IF i click on a link it just sits trying to load the page. I can't even go back or forward to previous pages. I know its not my Internet connection because if i use Firefox or Opera i don't have this problem. I have Googled a little and there seems to be snippets of this problem but no real solutions. Is any one else having problems?
