We are going to need to buy a load of network leads and patch cables soon. I wonderd where you lot get yours from and who is the most competitive?

Yes

I think it is yes, i looked for the spec but my collegeue said he did not think they had put it on their website yet. Apparently they buy in the monitor with chasis and then build the pcs to your specification.

Was possibly thinking of getting CPUs as well. Forgive me as i am not up with the terminolgy of the CPU ( never got my head round it) but does this mean i could put a P4 3.2 in these boards?

I have been offered a dozen motherboards free from one of our old suppliers. (Guess they no longer use them.) We are thinking of having them from stock incase our machines go down and we need to replace the boards.. THe board is a Foxconn 648/661 series but i am unsure as to what would be the max CPU socket 775 we could use in them. Can anyone help?

Is anyone using the Dell USF or USFF PCs. One of the primaries i go to needs space saving PCs I have seen a few types about and have visited a nearby secondary school who have a couple of different manufacturers small form PCs in for evaluation at the moment. The primary school want to use Dell again as they have been very happy with the after sales service they have had. Can some one tell me the big difference between a USFF (Ultra Small Form Factor) and a SFF (Small Form Factor) as i am a little confused. Also are any of you using them?

To hard glass or not to hard glass. We are wondering whether to have Hard Glass TFT screens this time round....but only wondering. We have around 45 19" Dell TFT at the monet and have had this just over 12 months. To be honest we have had no problems with them at all as far as kids damage or destruction. I am quite enclined to go for normal TFT again but the 'Hard Glass' has been branded about byt SLT. I can seem to warant to spend the extra money on a TFT with this glass. I have had a quotes of £190 for a 19"hard glass tft but this compared to one of Dell's 19" tft is nearly double the price. What are your thoughts on hard glass tft screens and does anyone one know if Dell do thses?

I have a couple of computers coming in from local suppliers and we are going to put them through their paces with some testing software. I know when i left school and worked for a computer manufacturer in my area that the used to use stress testing software to test the machines after they had built them. I can't for the life of me remember the software. Do you use any special software and if so what and is it free?

At one of the primary schools i go to they have exchange 2003 installed. The head has asked if there is a way for emails to be monitored/accessed for a certain user. He seems to think that this certain users is abusing the email system and they want o monitor the content of the emails being sent out. Now i know this could be a violation of the users privacy but i have checked the AUP and it doe state that users emails can and will be monitored for areas of misuse and inappropriate use. Can this be done in any way? I have never installed exchange myself so know very little about it.

I have been asked to put together a couple of sample SLA's together for one of the schools i visit. To b ehonest i have only ever seen one or two and they were not really for a school/educational use. DOes anyone have any sample ones or copies of ones they already use that they wouldn't mind letting me have a look at and perhaps help me use some of their content to put one together. I would happily have them sent in a PM if you do not want to post onthe forums.

I wondered if it is possible to set up a wild card for use in a rule in Outlook 2007. I want to set up a rule so that if anything from @email.co.uk goes to a folder in my inbox. I could have several emaisl coming in from @email.co.uk but is it possible to set up a wildcard for this? ie; *[email protected] Can this be done?

Pupil's Files (ie MP3's, exe's etc)
Kyle replied to Netwacky87's topic in Network and Classroom Management
I suppose it depends on your AUP, what ever you set out on this dictates what you can do with the files if you find them. As above any vbs, .com, .bat etc we delete without notice because they should not have these files. MP3 are a bit of a nightmare because they say they use them for presentations etc. But if i see complete albums on there i delete them as well. -
Anyone got any pictures of these?

So, With new blocks going up in lots of areas, all the new blocks will be having Cat6 installed (in our LEA anyway) All current wiring in the other older blocks is Cat5. If there are plans to upgrade other rooms to IT rooms in the older blocks should thay have Cat6 even though the rest of the block has Cat5? Can you mix Cat5 and Cat6 in one buliding or does this not work? Even thought the connectiion between the two blocks if 1gb fibre?
