  1. Glad you got it sorted. We've all made mistakes like that. I can't speak for Cisco as I've not used it to any great degree but be careful when making that assumption. With our Aruba/HPE gear, we have to be very careful about the SFP/SFP+ modules that we buy for our switches. For example, we were updating the equipment at one of our sites. The site has crappy fibre so we bought some LRM SFP+ modules for our switches so we could get 10gbps uplinks without having to change the fibre. It turned out the the LRM modules didn't work with the Aruba 2540 switch, despite working with the 2530, 2920s and 5400Rs that we've got. Be careful to check the HCL when you're looking for modules.
  2. Are the SFP+ ports on the faster switch rated to work at 1gbps? /edit looking at the Cisco website, that’s a hard yes. Is it possible the SFP module you’re using isn’t compatible with the faster switch?
  3. Can I just clarify? One switch is a 10gbe switch and has a 10gbe transceiver, while the other is a 1gbe switch with a 1gbe transceiver? If so, that won’t work as you’ve found. Our 10gbe HP switches work with 1gbe transceivers in their 10gbe ports, can you put a 1gbe transceiver in your 10gbe switch?
  4. I wouldn’t call them anything special, I’d just follow your current naming convention. No need to reinvent the wheel just because the operating system is different.
  5. I mostly use PowerShell for the automation of repetitive tasks, such as adding or removing multiple people from groups or to get data out of Office365 into an easily readable format. Day to day, it’s not really used.
  6. A clockwork tin Christmas tree that played a little tune when you twisted it. It had shortbread in it as well. My son and nieces loved it but it was naff to say the least.

  8. Are you talking about the c:\clusterstorage folder? I don't think the rebuilt server will get that until you've joined it to the cluster.

  11. Why would remaking the 50s series with better special effects be more worthwhile? It's been done. Just dressing it up with better special effects would be fairly pointless. And the 2005 film was awful, although having Tom Cruise in a film generally tips a film towards the "awful" end of the spectrum in my opinion. While I agree that the BBC's latest effort fell flat, at least they tried something different with it. Redoing the same thing over and over gets boring.
  12. If you get an iPad with a smart keyboard connector, you can connect Apple's own Smart keyboard to them. AFAIK, they don't need charging. Admittedly, they're frackin' expensive. /edit There's also a Logitech one: https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/rugged-folio, that's a little less expensive.

  15. I will admit that I've not done this on a domain with Azure AD Sync installed on it but I don't see why it would cause a problem.
  16. I've done this. The bigger issue than running DomainPrep/ForestPrep is, assuming you've not done it already, upgrading the SYSVOL replication method from FRS to DFSR. It's not especially hard but it is time consuming depending on how many DCs you've got https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Storage-at-Microsoft/Streamlined-Migration-of-FRS-to-DFSR-SYSVOL/ba-p/425405 Once that was done, putting 2016 DCs onto the domain was trivial.
  17. I work for a relatively small trust in SE London. We have four school clusters with nine schools among them. Each of the school clusters have their own IT support department who are responsible for looking after systems which are specific to the school such as their SIMS servers, printing and suchlike. The size of the team depends on the size of the school cluster but they have 3-4 members in each one. We also have a central IT team who are responsible for infrastructure, third line technical support and QA. There are three in that team at the moment. Overall, right now, we have 13 people in our IT departments.
  18. Another possibility is that he may have had SCCM in at some point and was using that to do updates. Although SCCM uses WSUS to do updating, you still have to disable the built mechanism for it to work. Either that or the guy was either fed up with complaints about updates and disabled them or he was a complete tool.
  19. There have been two people on this thread we’ll have said that the level of service they get from EE and Plusnet are drastically different. I’m not saying that they’re wrong, I just think it’s strange that two divisions of the same company offer such different service levels. BT really seem to be turning into the British Leyland of the telecoms world :|
  20. The way things are going, it looks channels are coming back, albeit channels run by the content producers rather than third parties. Our days of paying £8/m for Netflix and getting a decent amount of content are numbered. You can already see evidence of this with Disney pulling their content from Netflix and Prime and pushing out Disney Life. The BBC look to be going in the same direction too.
  21. @Clevertouch_Rob, that URL is bringing up a 404 error when I try to use it.
