  1. It would do if they hadn't already accepted the fact when they signed you AUP that you reserve the right to do so.
  2. ExamplesAccountAuditing - google-apps-manager - GAM Account Auditing Commands - Dito Google Apps Manager - Google Project Hosting
  3. Like ICTLTD said "the main thing is the performance needed?" probably not In a file server - but SSD's make a dramatic improvement to Terminal Servers. So Like Localzuk we have a happy 'medium' (pun intended) of SSD's, SAS and SATA.
  4. I found that moving to 5GHz at home made a real difference to avoiding wifi pollution. I use an old 3com device, theres plenty of 5GHz AP's around on ebay as organisations move toward managed wireless.
  5. Appropriately timed discussion on slashdot about Ask Slashdot: How Do SSDs Die? - Slashdot
  6. We ran Vertexes on a Citrix Cluster of 10 servers for 2yrs. The citrix servers get a fair amount of writes due to their nature. Only had one failure in that time and the smart looked pretty good on the others up until we scrapped them. We upgraded them this term with Icore i7-3820's, and naturally Intel SSD's.
  7. apache and mod_userdir with samba access is the most straightforward. If you use samba as their fileserver then H:\public_html becomes their webserver.
  8. mostly HP 4014's and some older 3000 series.
  9. I don't see why this is a problem with the pac file - since the pac file just sends the request to the proxy server. IMO the issue is with the proxies, not the pac file.
  10. by default the network doesn't start on boot. run cli. su to root (type su) edit the file. with vi/vim/nano/gedit eg su nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
  11. ??? Use a static IP issued by the DHCP server, then set the proxy to autoconfig and use web proxy autoconfig protocol.
  12. If a 3.2/4.x upgrade is out of the question you could set up a separate VLAN for these devices and use squid/dansguardian as a transparent proxy like this: Dansguardian Content Filtering With Transparent Proxy On Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic | HowtoForge - Linux Howtos and Tutorials
  13. We checked this with our LA accountants: You DO need to charge VAT on all computer products including memory sticks. For some reason musical instruments get an exemption, I have no idea why. VAT fraud is a serious offence, if you are selling things without VAT I would strongly urge you to get legal advice.
  14. Last thing I needed on a Friday afternoon. One of the pigs escaped. Luckily all that useless knowledge from Countryfile on a Sunday evening came in handy and I guided her back in with a board whilst the caretaker repaired the fence :-) to top it off I then had to chase off a fox who was eyeing up the chickens.
  15. For that you'd use the show_in_group_directory. I don't think you can do that for an OU though gam update group settings show_in_group_directory true|false actually I think this may be more towards displaying the mailing list. The API is the way forward for now https://developers.google.com/google-apps/contacts/v3/
  16. I'd go for SSO. Do you have moodle? theres an SSO module here: git.catalyst.net.nz Git - moodle-r2.git/summary Other Opensource SSO's that will work with google apps are: SimpleSAMLphp Shibboleth - Home
  17. Hide users from the Google Apps Directory - Google Apps Help Run gam ou all users profile unshared
  18. Like I say - its a few years behind Google apps which lets you segregate OU's with ease, based on their Active Directory memberships.
  19. So can you run the Set-Mailbox script on all of the users? or would you have export a list from the subdomain or custom attribute and run on all users and then specify that the script runs on (staff) user creation?
  20. can you do that with an OU or Group though? Agreed. It does require a change in culture for some old staff though
  21. Google apps? Hide users from the Google Apps Directory - Google Apps Help They are several years ahead of Office 365 gam user |group |ou |all users profile shared|unshared
  22. this is about the bottom line: Intel Pentium 3 / Athlon 64 or later Free disk space 100 MB RAM 128 MB Chrome system requirements - Google Chrome Help A few bring in £150 tablets which work fine.
  23. I disagree that BYOD disadvantages students - thats not how things have worked out here and It's still a level playing field. The minimum system requirement we have is to support a) WiFi and b) a modern internet browser. *Everything* is done on-line. We provide laptops for students who have forgotten theirs and a bursary scheme for free nebooks for those that qualify ICT-centric stuff is still done in traditional IT Suites, but instead of those being used by (eg) English classes for writing up essays they are actually being used for IT. Writing up essays is done online.
  24. +1 to this. We've been very happy with Vaioni, and a fraction the price BT quoted.
  25. Are you really suggesting that headteachers, teachers and governors aren't qualified to come up with an adequate educational program to teach about cybersecurity and cyberbullying ? Who is then? The LA?
