I wonder how many of us have these in the attic still?
Dos_Box replied to Dos_Box's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
I bought my first computer from Time (a Cyrix 200Mhz wet lettuce), and taught me a lot about doing my own upgrades and repairs! It was relatively close to me and they had a factory shop called EMIT (Time backwards). very handy for software bundles and things like joystics etc. It's the only thing I miss about Time Computers. -

Loved Smart Suite, real competition for MS Office. Time Computers used to bundle it with their PC's. I think Lotus was the most reliable aspect of those machines! -

My CD drive isn't working, and my soundcard refuses to pay 😛 Saying that, I was looking at old Shuttle PC's on eBay the other day. At one of my workplaces, we got these in (circa 2004) for desktop use, and had a mass of them plonked in a storeroom several years later when we upgraded. They now fetch a decent price, so if any of you have one in the attic, it may be worth digging it out. -

No labels mystery disks! I'm always curious to see what is on any old media I come across. -

How can you disable the Lightspeed Filter Agent off of a school chromebook?
Dos_Box replied to SmrtLu's topic in General Chat
Please note that our members are the very people ensuring you cannot disable things like this, and will not provide any help or advice on how to circumvent any security and protection measures implemented in their schools to enquiring minds. Thread locked.- 1 reply

I upgraded and 'gamed' on a Windows XP Handheld PC
Dos_Box replied to ICTDirect_Joe's topic in General Chat
It was a bit strange in the 2000's. A lot of good ideas were comign to the fore, but unfortunatly the hardware of the time was just lacking (often only slightly). I recall the collegues I supported at the time had the freedom to pick the hardware they wanted to do their jobs. Some picked small form factor devices such as this or the tiny VAIO's Sony were selling at the time. They were often utter nightmares due to the lack of computing grunt. More often and not they were taken on due to their being easily portable, all other considerations came second. They were well made, just very lacking in the kind of power that was required for the jobs they were doing. -

The new season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. We gave it a go even though we (for some reason) thought that there wasn't much in the way of monsters in the forst season. The catch-up proved that to be wrong, and there are plenty of large, roaring things with teeth in the first episode of season 2 to keep everyone happy!

Red Dwarf’s ‘visionary’ co-creator Rob Grant dies aged 70
Dos_Box replied to 6Foot2's topic in General Chat
Well, that's put a downer on the day. Loved Red Dwarf and had been watching it since series 1. By season 4 it was essential viewing. As others had said, it is one of the best comedy series ever written. RIP Rob. -
Yeas ago we had a birdbox cam. It was setup using a cheap birdbox camera kit connected to an analogue AV to IP convertor, which could then send images + a live stream to the website via the inbuilt interface. We got blue tits in there a few days after setting up. This worked great, right up until a woodpecker pecked it's way in and ate all the chicks, all while being streamed live!

Lots of crocuses out on the park behind my house atm. Also have my office window open for the first time in months today. It has been a very grey and wet winter though (thanks jetstream) and I'll be glad to see the back of it. This made me smile - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c14mlrd460vo I found the same after a coupel of weeks of overcast the other month and finally the sun emeged for a brief spell. I thought it was the end times!

Finally finished Acapulco (really enjoyed it) and now just two episodes to go with Small Prophets. Really liking this, much like detectorists, you have identifiable characters, a gentle story and even though some are complaining it plods, it moves at the pace it needs to.

We're fully up to date with it now and still loving it

I'm currently re-reading Terry Pratchett's Wintersmith. I'm doing all of the Tiffany Aching books (in order) as I've not really read them since I bought them when they first came out, and forgot how good he was at writing for both adults and kids at the same time and I'm really enjoying them again once more.

I suspect baby doesn't care what it is sat in, wearing or being pushed around on. After my two (all grown up now) we realised quite early on that with growth spurts and the usual baby 'ejections' that clothes should be as cheap as possible. You'll be buying new ones in 2 months time. The 2 prams we had bought and transported them around in then put in the garage 'just in case', were beyond reselling. They truly were in a totally worn out and grubby state. It's easy to spend £££'s more than you need to for baby items that you will used and ready to get rid of in no time at all.

Just getting towards the end of the first season of Shrinking on Apple TV, and loving it. A great cast and genuine laugh-out-loud moments in there. The first two episodes are the weakest I think, but they are establishing characters, and given the grimness of some of the characters stories, you'll just have to power through them.

That is sad, still, 79 is a good innings (or frame), and he did come over as a very nice guy. In snooker his age equates to - 9 reds with blacks + 1 red with blue + 1 yellow + 1 green *I had to ask CoPilot.

The Wildlife (and Gardening for Wildlife) thread
Dos_Box replied to elsiegee40's topic in General Chat
Went to Leighton Moss yesterday and wasn't disappointed. From Marsh Harriers, Great White (and Little) Egrets, Pintails, Shovellers, Goldeneye and Marsh Tits all being nice to see up close. We didn't hear any Bitterns unfortunately, but may have heard the otters there too (their call is bird-like) Sadly I forget to take a good camera (again), so mobile phone pics only -
I used to call mine a variety of names, mainly 'Just Stay Fixed You Utter *******!'. You fix one thing then the next breaks a week or so later.

Welcome @td5roo, I hope your username doesn't imply you own a Discovery II? Possibly the most unreliable car I ever owned 😂

Just a quick post to say a big thank you from all of us to all of you who stopped by to chat and help with the pizza mountain each lunchtime (really, your help there was much appreciated!), it was really great to see you all in the real world again 😀 And big thank you goes to @ICTDirect_Dave and his crew for hosting us once more, as well as @Net-Ctrl for feeding you at lunchtime, it was very welcome. For us, this had been the busiest show since before covid I think, and the footfall on Wednesday and Thursday was to total shock. You'd have to go back quite some time to see crowds like that at BETT. I usually judge the success of a BETT show as how tired we are at the end, and this was a doozy 🙂 ETA: And a special thanks goes to @GrumbleDook for dropping off what can only be described as a potted history of EduGeek in merch and print form. Thanks Tony, my suitcase appreciated it 😜
