If your trying to get users to update sims without being an admin i bleave there is a bat in sims\setups called simsperm you use it like this if its there I:\Sims\Setups\Simsperm.bat "Domain\Group" where I:\ is the share for your sims server

This vbs script is used to remove files from a network share after they haven’t been modified for so long. The script its self works fine I just need to change it to record what the script is deleting. The original code I tried to change it to this it still removes the files but doesn’t write to the file but I can’t see what I’ve done wrong. I would love it if someone could show me what I did wrong or even point me to somewhere that will help me see what I did wrong.

Yes you can Go to the ntfs security click on advance click add then add the "teachers" group and give the permissions (apply on to should be this folder subfolders and files) Traverse folder List folder Read attributes Read extended attributes Read permissions Leave the rest blank Then click add again add the "teachers" group then change the apply onto to files only and give the permissions Create files Create folders Write attributes Write extended atributes This will only apply to files. Easiest way to remember it is folders/files where there are 2 options Just test this befor you apply it as im unsure what would happen for the students if they try and change it after

we had this last term we found that students were creating bat files on the desktop and running them from there (writing the files as they go) we put a stop to it using gpo adding the path %USERPROFILE%\Desktop

I know that you can’t use hash rules on swf files as well, they just don’t work for some reason

Yes I’m positive that it’s not running, as I said it outputs to a txt file that is recording and for testing purposes I have had the server trying every night when nothing else is running for the last 3 days its reported that its 12% fragmented with 24% file fragmentation. The 2 weeks defrag is for our student data drive that gets bad in about 3 weeks other servers would run a lot less.

Hello, I’m trying to get out servers to defrag threw scheduled tasks every few weeks. I have found the command that should be working that’s, defrag Drive: -f but for some strange reason it doesn’t work. To help work out what was going on I moved it to a bat file and had it out put to a file, that shows that the server is running the analyze but not running the defrag. Any thoughts??

We actually recharge all costs to the departments using paper cut and a copy of the timetable and bookings, takes a bit of time to do but means that we foot no costs for the curriculum

We charge 3p for mono A4 and 8p for colour, we give students about 75p at the start of the week and reset it at each half term as they can build up quite a bit. But we issue more credit if it’s needed for work as long as they haven’t wasted the rest of the credit

I know that NetSupport School can do this by sharing control of student pc's with several tutors and not setting room selection on the tutor pc's. It would mean that teachers connected to all the pc’s in the school then they can see the student logon names and from that they should be able to follow their students where they are.

Have you checked the permitions?

not sure if its the best way but you could use a logon script copy /y "\\server\shair\csccmd.exe" "c:\windows32\system32" that will work, addit to any logon script and it should copy the csccmd in.

nothing so grand, we script all our printer's so there isnt any problems there but we have to move them every now and again and its a pain to edit the scripts so i was looking to do it once with a dfs address so that it doesnt change.

Properly a silly question but can you use the distributed file system with printers? I haven't seen any where that you can’t but nor have I seen if you can.

chris any problems like this with netsupport you will find that tech will say the following : reinstall the program reinstall the image update the graphics runscreen scrape mode (very nasty mode)

ive see the same thing before with 2 members of staff here, 1 had hit there laptop with a hair dryer and the other had put a large cup of tea on top of the screen, screen dont just brake (with a impact point) i'd get the teacher to put there thumb over the impact bet it matches up

I work at the same school as PRicho and this fault that we have got is with 3 users on 3 different laptops 1 has been rebuilt, 1 has been changed (new laptop) and 1 has had its cache removed and added. We tried the idea of mapping a drive to the server but that still causes the same fault. We have tried a different server 1 with a dfs path and 1 with a standard share, but none of these things have made any difference. What is strange is that when we save the files is saved but word crashes. If we save to the desktop it work, then when copying from the desktop to the cache again explorer crashes

we have it a bit more complex years 7-9 100mb (increased when needed ie after a look threw there area) years 10-13 get 100mb base then more depending on what subject 100mb more for it 100mb more for art 200mb more for media 200mb more for photo courses these are added up so some doing it art media and photo courses will get 700mb space, which again is changed if needed unlimited for staff but we watch over there file types

What about defrag's?

guessing that you are using outlook, try this, go to control pannel > mail > show profiles > select your profile > properties > email accounts > view / change existing email accounts Then look at deliver new email to the following location if that the personal folder thatn change it to mailbox - display name

i could be way off the mark here but it looks like it uses outlook to send a vbs that changes the homepage (to 1 of 4 pages) to every one in your address book. please correct me if im wrong. started wreading before the other posts exsisted

we put a shortcut in all users > startup from a shair on the server that let students and staff have read access, works a treat
