  1. Not sure why this is occurring - if you're able to download other updates then it shouldn't be your site, I doubt it is exclusive to you and suspect there is an issue with Capita's repository... Are your S3 settings set to "auto-download" - if so switch that off while you do this process as it won't help. *Stop the download and then remove any files it did manage to get (they'll be in the SOLUS3 Repository with a recent date). *Restart both the SOLUS services on your server. *Use your link to the URL that works to manually download the package. *Now head to "Upgrades | Update Libriary | Import Update" *Browse to the pkg file(s) and import. This should allow you to do the update through SOLUS 3.
  2. I usually put something like below: C:\Program Files\SIMS\Discover Windows Service It's basically asking what directory to install the Discover Services into: *If you've already got Discover installed then have a dig through your various Program Files folders and you'll find Discover Services somewhere - use that. *If this is the first time you've had discover then set it however you wish although something like the path above might be a good choice.
  3. Services tab is where you: *Set up SIMS Discover - you have to link it to a SIMS Database that you have already set up on the other two tabs. *Tell it where the S: drive is. *Tell it where the SIMS document management server is.
  4. Servers Tab: It wants to know the SQL Server details for SIMS/FMS - this means servername\instance and the location of the SQL Binn folder. Databases Tab: It wants you to pick one of the servers you have set in the Servers tab. Then tell it what the database name is, eg - my sims database is called SIMS and my FMS database Finance etc
  5. That's just automatic when you install a SOLUS 3 agent, the agents won't do anything except download a local cache of the files they need until you tell it to deploy. It caches the files in: C:\ProgramData\Capita\Solus3\Deployments\Packages Not sure about your .net update thing though
  6. More or less as follows: One reason for putting the agent on clients is so that SOLUS 3 can distribute upgrade files to workstations prior to you actually deploying the upgrade - thereby meaning when you do choose to deploy the upgrade the workstations should already have a cached copy of the setup files. The agent also talks to the server regularly which means: Machines that are online when you run the upgrade receive the upgrade there and then without the user needing to launch SIMS (additionally if a user is in SIMS it will warn them and then force close it with a countdown). nb - if these machines go offline during the upgrade then the locally cached upgrade files are unaffected and the workstation upgrade should finish OK Machines that are offline when you run/schedule the upgrade will actually do the upgrade as soon as they next turn up in school and the agent checks in with the server (again - it upgrades even if the user doesn't open SIMS). Also, machines that are offline when you deploy the upgrade should have a locally cached copy of the workstation install files so when they turn up in school (first monday after the holidays) and everyone puts the computer for registration the SIMS server doesn't get hammered by a couple of hundred computers requesting access to the install files on the S Drive.
  7. Dredged up this thread from a year ago as a lot of people are having to install S3 at the moment and it was one of the similar threads on the recent post... Don't include S3 agents on an image - the agent includes a GUID (unique identifier) which identifies it in the S3 database, that will go badly wrong if all your imaged machines are reporting back to the database as being the same machine. Agree about the DNS horribleness. Include the correct .net framework in the image and perhaps the firewall requirements (or send them from GPO).
  8. As others have said this is usually a connect.ini issue: Does it work OK on the server? Does it work OK on other workstations? The main connect.ini (not redirected) should normally look something like this: [sIMSConnection] ServerName=simsserver\sqlinstance DatabaseName=sims Commandtimeout=100000 Note the lack of 2 backslashes for the servername line If the server works, but workstations don't then you're probably looking at one of the things @Greg has mentioned.
  9. Small list, SNES - Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Smash TV and Zelda "A link to the past" PS1 - Gran Turismo GameCube - Luigi's Mansion, ISS2, Super Monkey Ball PS2 - GTA Vice City Wii - Wii Sports Resort Going to buy an XBox 1 soon and really looking forward to: Forza 6, Fallout 4
  10. Hi there, Anybody know if it is possible in Word 2010/13 to create a Pie chart based on a table from within the Word document itself? When I insert a chart it forces me out to an excel sub-window to enter my data. I don't want that part to happen - the data needs to come from the table that is already inside the Word Document. I've googled this a bit but all the "answers" are about not using excel initially - they still tell you to enter the data into Excel when Word opens it Thanks in advance
  11. Strange then - if it is just a quite basic report you'd expect that to run fast. What is the response time like when you try to do "Tools | Setups | Document Management Server | Test Server Connection"? If it's slow then it sounds more like network connection to the SIMS Server, if it is quick then it's more like a bottleneck once the report query hits the database. (It may also be connected to the proxy settings). If it's a GfL proxy rather than local this would explain why it takes absolutely ages - the communication for SIMS going all the way out to that proxy and then coming all the way back to school! How do reports respond on the SIMS server itself with no proxy set? Also check your Document Server Firewall Exceptions on the SIMS Server and make sure NetBIOS is enabled on the network card the SIMS Server uses (Network Card Properties | Advanced | TCPIP v4 | Wins | Enable NetBIOS)
  12. I'm wondering if it is the speed of the connection to the reporting engine, or the amount of work the report engine has to run? What kind of a report is it, and for how many pupils, does it include graphics/logos? Does a really basic report for a class worth of pupils run at a sensible speed? If you run Process Explorer (Sysinternals) and watch the SIMS (pulsar.exe) process while you run the report can you check on the different tabs to highlight any bottleneck or lag? Sometimes the client will try to access the report engine across a proxy server which slows it down.
  13. This is probably going to differ from school to school and also differ between schools in different LAs. SIMS doesn't necessarily rely on an S drive (or any particular drive mapping) to actually work so it's more a case of what files you were storing there to enable shared access for the schools SIMS users. You're likely to have had folders relating to CTF's, Census returns, Exams and so on, maybe also template documents for things like attendance letters. Hopefully you haven't lost the DocStorage folders for the SIMS document Server. Bit of a bummer, but not the end of the world hope you can recover it.
  14. ^^ This is usually the answer to this issue. It usually occurs if the SA password is changed and SOLUS 3 not updated to reflect that change. Otherwise if the SA password is correct within SOLUS 3, then just doing the "Get Target Version" under "Environment | Agents | Targets" for the SIMS/FMS Database entry will normally resolve it. IIRC - The permissions on the SQL table issue mentioned by @woodham is a hangover from a bad SOLUS 3.6 > 3.7 upgrade which Capita patched once SOLUS 3.7 was out, I'm guessing you never got the patch.
  15. When I got this it confused me, but the link was actually on that page towards the bottom right.
  16. You could do it though with a bit of a workaround. In discover generate a graph showing pupils above/below x% attendance (You could also create a custom group inside SIMS) NB - to do this you may need to fiddle slightly with the graph display setting intervals for discover in the "Discover Admin App" Now make a dynamic group dragging the correct data point from the graph you just created onto it. Wait a couple of minutes for the group to sync back into SIMS In SIMS run the registration certificate report. Choose Discover groups from the dropdown menu Double click the group you just created.
  17. I see this now and again in SIMS although I see no obvious performance problems or issues when it occurs and SIMS daves fine. No intouch here, unfortunately we're not in a position to do any network related work or investigation. Think sending something to Capita seems worthwhile.
  18. It won't allow you to pick only Reg Groups with 100% attendance, but how about this one... Reports | Attendance | Group Reports | Group Analysis by Attendance Category
  19. It might also be worth doing a trawl and see how many old marksheets/templates you have in Assessment that are no longer used. (You might want to speak to your schools Assessment guru about this). and delete as many old/unused/unnecessary marksheets and templates as you can.
  20. Nope, newsimsdatabase is literally blank, it is simply a database structure with the correct tables and so on, there's no pupil/staff/school data whatsoever - for that sort of thing you need to be on supportnet with LA access to the training datasets really. If memory serves the config utility sets up stuff like - is the school primary/secondary/special/independent, DfE number etc
  21. Everyone finds this confusing, I appreciate they're trying to cater for a lot of different needs but as far as I can see it needs simplifying.
  22. Hiya, I've a secondary school who are running the SIMS database in simple recovery mode and as a result the transaction log backups have stopped. I know the SQL to change this back to full recovery, but I don't know if this can be done whilst users are logged in? Can anyone advise me please? Thanks.
  23. Usually it means the workstation element hasn't fully upgraded. I'd try the following: Since it is an error on the Census make sure the latest fileset is imported and the user has returns manager access. Delete the SIMS .net folder on the local machine and re-install SIMS to that workstation.
