  1. It's mainly a "for show" thing nowdays I think. Anyone who see's a bunch of well-stocked folders full of all the stuff you're doing/have done recognises the work, and it's easy to let them have a look if they want (providing they are allowed of course!). A bunch of scanned images or word files sitting on a private server that you then have to assist someone in being able to view doesn't have the same effect on non-IT folk. Why do you think teachers print out all of their planning and put it into folders, it shows off the majority of the work they are actually putting in! Plus I was always told that it's "just good practice" to keep paper records of everything.
  2. In our department we have: Finance folder (printouts of all quotes and most up to date budget sheets) Funding folder (specific info about the ICT funding the school has been given) Audit folder (all info about all hardware) Software catalogue (all info about software inc. licensing) Policies folder (AUP's etc) Personal folders (my to-do's, to-read's and to-be-kept info) Helpdesk reports (monthly record) Build guides for all hardware / images 'Incident' log (records of asking for files to be removed, violations of AUP etc) Disaster Recovery plan / documentation (in safe) ICT Mark progress folder FITS paperwork folder Network Overview folder (for new / replacement staff if needed) "Welcome" folder containing a few copies of the welcome pack we give to all new (non-ICT) staff We are putting together a Health&Safety assessment folder currently. I also keep a "Training" folder for all info/docs about/from training courses I go on (alas it's quite empty so far!) Think that's about it
  3. Now I lay thee down to rot Alone here in this cardboard box And decomposed thy limbs shall be All gangrenous and maggoty (But still, it beats the 9-to-5 that I endured when I was alive)
  4. "If Heaven turns out To be True I'll give them warning About you If to Hell I'm sent For what I've done I'll tell them that You're lots of fun"
  5. "Why didn't I think of this sooner?" LOL
  6. It's blatantly photoshopped, look at where his hands rest on his legs and you can see where the actual leg would have gone, and the abs/chest is ridiculous it looks like he's got no skin. It's not quite in the same league but another example is here http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc32/durvish1812/muscle_man.jpg
  7. Oh yeah, I must go through about £60 worth of shoes every year from walking everywhere
  8. Nice! It seems to handle very well, and the production of a random spot of desert instead of the road was damn impressive.
  9. Being in the deep end in one thing, but being in deep sh*t with your users because nothing works is quite another!
  10. love it love it love it! *steals for own use*
  11. Definately a good idea to learn from your own mini-network while the main ones keeps working as it is, and yes small changes are a must! I made the mistake of making some *huge* changes within the first few months when I started here, and everyone hated me for it. Forget the fact that the old system didn't work 90% of the time, this new working one was strange and scary and on more than one occasion I got a verbal lynching from a lot of staff! Cut to 3 years later and they all love how everything works, as soon as something doesn't it's the 'end of the world as we know it' type scenario So yes, it's perfectly possible to go from a pre-made network to a vanilla network, it just takes some learning and some patience on the part of the users too.
  12. Change "Viglen" for "WinSuite" and you've got my story at this school there too I've found that running a vanilla 2003/2008 network keeps you on your toes more as well, as there's more steps (ie the actual steps!) needed to doing things as you have to do everything yourself! But you also get a great sense of satisfaction from creating your own thing from the ground up and then seeing it working day in day out
  13. I agree with Dan, RM CC$ does make some jobs easier/quicker, but it's not "the way forward", it doesn't really offer much that a Vanilla network can't do/be 'pursuaded' to do plus, I personally think it's better to have the pupils using a 'real' computer environment like regular Windows and not a re-created version tailored to them, as it won't serve them later on if all they know is how to use your specific 'brand' of user account. If you do decide to ditch RM CC$, then be sure that you *know* what you need to do to make the changeover smooth and as un-noticable as possible for your end users. Also, don't knock the fact that you don't have to support everything; trust me, IT jobs tend to grow as time goes on and if your school is anything like mine then in 3 years time you'll hardly recognise they job you are doing now as it has changed/grown so much, so enjoy the less-stress now while it lasts!
  14. yeah there's about 55 of them I think
  15. If you complete all of the Cie'lith missions then at the end you get the "Growth Egg" accessory which gives you massive amounts of bonus CP for each fight you do, plus you'll gain a fair bit of CP by doing all the missions as well. But yeah, if you want to get max out all characters get ready for hours and hours and hours of grinding away.
  16. 1Gb RAM to run it?? Ouch. Maybe I'll test it out on my home kit then and not my work PC lol
  17. lol If you hold the "up" key on that (or just drag your way up to the very top of the image) then you can see the sky is faintly filled with the phrase "©Google2009"
  18. It it loads properly (it took 2 tries for me) there are 2 guys on the pavement who look like Wayne adn Garth from Waynes World
  19. That's one of my "go to mentally" images whenever I need to crack a fake smile at someone around this place LOL Lots more here too Star Trek Inspirational Posters
  20. hahahaha! That's made my afternoon, awesome find, thanks!
  21. "WiFi eats babies!" lol funny stuff
  22. Ooooh definately going to check out the bumptop 3D desktop thing!
  23. I got this the other night (on Xbox360), love the single player story and finished it in one sitting, I couldn't stop! lol Gotta find the rest of the collectables/satellite uplinks though. The online I've only flirted with so far, it seems to have real potential but I didn't do so well with only the basic kit/limited experience of maps. Time will tell, it certainly captured me enough to keep me playing it for a while and I'm just glad that something has cropped up to fill the gaping hole left by the epic fail-ness of MW2
  24. It took me a while to like FF8 when I first got it, I was so in love with the materia system of magic/upgrades in FF7 that the new Junction/GF system didn't appeal, but after figuring out how to grow the GF's to really tweak the character's I really enjoyed it too, nothing beat the awesome feeling of entering a battle with a pre-emptive strike and winning without having to press a single button I love 7-10, hated X-2, haven't played the online ones, and now hated 13. I think the main reason I don't like them is the real-time element to the battles, I much prefer the turn-based style of play where you can think, plan ahead with tactics etc which also explains why I enjoyed Lost Odyssee and hated Infinate Undiscovery! lol
  25. Despite the promise of the game opening up at chapter 11 I just couldn't take any more of it and returned it to Gamestation to get Battlefield Bad Co. 2 instead. So bitterly dissapointed with the whole thing I might have to get FF7 for my PC just to re-kindle my love for the FF series
