  1. The first series of Red Dwarf was a little "meh", the show hit it's stride once all the characters were on board and melded, the "monster of the week" formula worked well, towards the end it trailed off, once the whole crew was brought back it kinda died for me. And the recent(ish) specials on Dave were appallingly bad, I cringed throughout most of it. I really REALLY loved the books though
  2. I vote for 2 monitors, as that's what I have set up at home (though the sizes are different). On my desk I have only 1 19" widescreen, but it does it's job enough for me and I'm happy to use virtual desktops if needs be (plus my naff little PC can't do dual screen )
  3. That is right, I was told the same thing on a SIMS Technical Awareness course a few weeks ago I was also told that there's no reason why SIMS *won't* work on Windows 7, but it wasn't yet supported (not sure if that's changed now though)
  4. No bee's here, lots of wasps though, had to attack 5 so far with the RAID can so far this week, they seem to like my server cabinet for some reason, maybe the low-res hum attracts them?
  5. Not a technical solution, but you could look at getting the Version 2 of the software, which was updated in 2007 and runs fine without the need to change colours/resolutions (we use it here no problems). It's much better than the first version too, better graphics/sounds and additional activities. Amazon had it for about £15 in the past....
  6. I meant that previous generations (our parents, grandparents etc) never experienced the "online world" that we use, and all the rubbish that comes with it (spam email, unwanted exposure to 'adult' images, constant advertisment for gambling, phising scams, identity theft.....) in addition to all the other stuff that did happen to those older generations when they were young too (war, terror, famine, povety, debt, and so on). All these things are perils of the Internet that most of us here just 'cope' with as part of our life because we are able to just "click next until we find something we like". But these things are foriegn concepts to a large proportion of those older users; it's not suprising that so many people *are* scared of computers/the internet when you see what CAN happen if you arn't careful. Would the parents of these children prefer that their child have a nervous breakdown and run crying to Mummy about the "bad man on the internet" every time they see something they don't like? These so-called "young girls" are 16+ in age, by definition they are at least young adults, and are prefectly capable of deciding what and what not to view when online. Personally, if it were my daughter, I'd rather she was able to just say "I don't like that, I'm moving on to another site". I certainly wouldn't be up in arms campaigning for the Internet to be governed because 'oh no my daughter saw a penis her life is ruined'. What this whole argument boils down to is whiny nagging moany Mums like the writer of that article wanting to keep their precious 'innocent' child as 'innocent' and protected from the world for as long as possible, a completely idiotic concept if you ask me, wrapping kids in cotton wool and all that. It's not like being able to see people doing adulterated things is not already abundant on the Internet, and yet this article makes this site sound like a brand-new form of perversion so evil it will make your eyes bleed. Google "Cam Chat", I'd wager you get hundreds of thousands of results. These DM-reading/writing types of people only ever think new things are evil. If it were up to them, we'd all be keylogged, the Internet would only contain their paper's website and sites which they themselves have deemed suitable, we'd only be allowed to browse during set hours, computer gaming would be banned (as everyone at the DM knows, it causes children to become violent offenders), and every precious innocent person under the age of 18 would be kept seperate from the rest of us living in this cruel, cruel world for fear of corrupting their delicate minds. It's all BS. Fact is, any of the 16 year olds who are *legally* viewing the site can also *legally* go and get first hand experience of anything they might catch on the camera. If they are under 16, they shouldn't be on the site anyway. Maybe I'm the oddball for not being up-in-arms about it, but I just don't see what the big deal is. And I will always stand by my argument that if you do not apply the parental controls, and/or do not supervise your child online, you have no right to complain about *anything* they do or see online.
  7. And yet on the reverse of that, almost everything is always made/supplied/produced by the lowest bidder! at least, around here it is anyway........
  8. You knew what the site was, had been forewarned about the content, and you chose to click "next" enough times to see multiple cam's of content. As I said before, from my POV people have no right to complain if they know what they are getting into and choose to proceed anyway Best sum-up of the DM's attitude I've ever read!
  9. If I got an email asking if there were currently any jobs available, I would either reply "sorry, not at this time" or direct them to the advertised job on website/in newspaper. Either way I wouldn't ignore it, that'd be rude (at least to me!)
  10. 1) If you don't want your child being seen online, why give them access to a webcam in the first place 2) If your child is under the legal age for the site, why are they on it / why are you letting them on it? 3) If you are not supervising your child's online activities and/or exercising the parental controls available then you have no right to complain 4) If you have not educated your child about the dangers online and how to avoid them then you have no right to complain 5) Everyone with any amount of sense knows the internet is not a safe place; if you let your child wander freely around it, sooner or later they will see something you don't like The writer's daughter seems to be the one with some sense in her family when she says "if you dont like something, you just click 'next' and move on'. This is the world we live in now, and for me, the only shocking thing about that article is how shocked that mother/writer appears to be. Do these people live in their own bubble of denial, plainly ignoring the world around them as it changes and then becoming increasingly horrified at how un-horrified our newer generations are by things that overly-horrify the older generations? I mean, is it really such a shocker that younger people these days are much more de-sensitized than even 2 generations ago??? We have to be, to deal with all the increasing amounts of cr@p shoved on us in this world!
  11. I progressed as my age/education level allowed me to lol GCSE ICT > AS level ICT > A level ICT > BSc Information Systems + 2 years teaching experience/training. Self-taught more than I learned on most of those courses too. Now been emplyed 3 years and haven't had any training that wasn't free (or very cheap!). I want to do some MS Cert's but work wont pay for it and on the wage I get from this place there's no way I can afford to do it myself
  12. haha, full of win!
  13. It's looking like it'll be good, a few more characters (at least 1 friendly, a female) and what looks to be a different enemy species (or possibly a very mutated Locust but stuill very different than anything from GOW/GOW2). Also, bring back the Krill! The level on the first game where you had to stay in the light to avoid them was one of the best levels << and tied into that, maybe some more stealthy options, instead of having to fight every_single_time, it'd be nice to be able to sneak around and take less heavy-gunning paths from time to time. No doubt the gameplay will be just as good, if not better, than the second one. I'd like to see the Chainsaw battles become more than just "tap B as fast as you can", perhaps a random sequence of buttons for close-range attack/defensive strikes with weapons. 4-player co-op is going to be awesome, so long as everyone has a decent conneciton and there is no lag (something that the first game suffered horribly from, lots of glitches when playing co-op). Story-wise, if you paid enough attention to all the details from the 1st and 2nd games, read all the information contained on the in-game collectible items and the stuff that comes with the bonus editions than you can pretty much tell where the story is heading. It'll still be great to see it play out though, and no doubt there'll be some twists that we wont see coming. More of the Horde-style gameplay, which was easily the most fun part of GOW2. The online matchmaking is the main thing that needs a real boost. I'd love to see more "class" based abilities like in BFBC2, instead of the weapons placed in the levels being the only thing that afffects a character. My on gripe with GOW3 so far: we're in 2010 now, 30 seconds of CGI isn't really enough to entice me in and keep me excited for long enough. We need some real gameplay footage. I know it's 12 months until release, but still, there's so much happening between now and then that this 'teaser-trailer CGI' will be forgotten quite quickly.
  14. The letter is stamped "32nd February" then re-stamped "23rd February" *hangs heads and weeps for our future*
  15. I found the pic on my home PC of the 'giant' Creme Egg we made.... it wasn't quite 'giant' but the size of a regular easter egg. Was still more than 4 of us could eat though! lol This is before we put it together (obviously )
  16. @BigWheels It's a very different game to MW2, the only real things they have in common are they're both FPS's and BFBC2 has a limited DeathMatch style mode of online play (the other 2 modes are much more fun as they are objective-based). The rambo-style running-and-gunning won't work in BFBC2, if you don't work as as team you won't get very far! There's just as much variation in the classes (scout who is sniper-based, medic who can revive recently-killed comarades, engineers to fix vehicles and the usual gun-heavy type, all classes of course have weapons as well as their special kits) as in MW2 and levelling up gives you new/better kit. The game also has gravity so if you're sniping accross the map you've got to allow for bullet drop, adds a nice touch and really makes you feel you earned the kill as opposed to MW2's "hold down the trigger and see what you hit" style) Oh, and you can drive tanks. and humvees. and quad bikes. and helicopters. in multiplayer. Dammit I want to play it NOW!
  17. My head would be for the chop if I did any 'Fools-based pranks here, so aside from enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of a training day and running a SIMS/FMS upgrade in the afternoon, it'll be a ordinary, dull, paperwork-based day I reckon.
  18. It depends on the route you want to go down; full-on network support or customer service/support. Network Support look at the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) here http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcsa.aspx#tab4 Customer Support look at the MicroSoft Certified Deskop Support Technician (MCDST) http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcdst.aspx#tab4 Both can be extended to lead into either the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) which can then lead on to the Consumer Support Technician (MCITP). The MCSA and the MCDST say you should have (up to) 12 months working in a network enviornment for MCSA or support end users for MCDST. Everything you need to know should be in the materials though, it's the experience of actually doing things for real that doesn't come from the courses. Hope that's of some help!
  19. If you have the number just phone him up and ask him for it?
  20. Me and my mate made one of those giant creme eggs a couple of years back, can't find the photo online I know I've got it at home somewhere. It was awesome but you couldn't eat more than a few bits as it was just *too* sugary!
  21. I agree there should be a second line from a different ISP with the 2 lines being as physically seperate from each other as possible (to avoid the "Digger" incident described above!) I've asked for a second line (or different, more reliable ISP) here before and was told no, we have to use E2BN and nothing else, although we did use to have 2 lines from them when we were seperate Infant and Junior schools but Finance decided not to keep paying for 2 when the schools merged together.
  22. I only left (High) School about 9 years ago and I had to learn about the PT... in fact in one of the Chem exams we had to write out the first 2 lines of the table from memory!! Period Table that's an actual table, very cool, I want one! And that "real pool table" is pretty awesome too
  23. I've still got an iPod nano 3rd gen, but if/when it breaks down I'll probably get an iPod Touch (or whatever iPod version is best at the time). Mainly because a) I use it too much to use my phone (a HTC Hero) the battery wouldn't last a day whereas my iPod even after years of use still lasts a good 10+ hours straight. b) my colleague has an iPod Touch an it is a very nice bit of kit, does pretty much everything the iPhone does except make calls/texts, can still use all the apps etc. and internet too. c) after having an iPod I wouldn't go back to any old MP3 player (but I'm not a FanBoi, before anyone starts! lol )
  24. I usually have facial hair of some sort, have done since I was about 15. Currently growing into a full one, but sure I'll get bored soon and start shaping it.
  25. lol it took me a minute to work that one out KC
