We have 5 Magicard Rio pros. They work well and have been reliable. For creating cards I wrote a PHP script that pulls the student info and photo and creates a pdf of the card to print. The mifare card number is then scanned in and saved against the user id.

We have 50 CloudReady licenses on older Dell Optiplex 580 hardware and Apple Mac's. It's easy to setup and has been reliable. Have not decided whether to expand the trial yet. I agree it is a shame there are so few Chrome all in one's. I'd really like some in our library. Have some Chromeboxes but all-in-ones would be neater.

The new SSPR is much more user friendly and mobile friendly. So far have had 1300 students successfully activate their accounts from home using SSPR this week.

Hi All, We have two money loaders using the Microcoin QL we need to update to take new £1 coins. After an awful experience when we sent the note takers to be updated for new £5 notes we decided to do this ourselves. From the documentation it doesn't look difficult, but you need the USB TL6 Test Program. I'm pretty sure we used to have a copy but can't find it. I was wondering if anyone here has a copy they'd be willing to share? Thanks!

We use MicroFocus Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) https://www.netiq.com/products/self-service-password-reset/ It's a very full featured product that we get bundled as part of Access Manager, but it can be purchased separately. As well as resetting passwords we use this for the activation of student accounts from home.

All students receive an ID card at enrolment which includes their username. The account creation script sends off an email and text message with a link to the IT induction and instructions for activating their account online. Most students have activated their account before stepping foot into college.

We've made a PHP/MySQL script that generates a PDF. This links in with our internally developed student information system. The script can generate cards for an entire class or an individual student.

I've found HP IMC to be really useful for monitoring our switches. We also use it to backup and deploy switch configuration as well as rolling out firmware updates.

We create a restricted network account for each student and every exam. There are about 700 in total. Exams accounts are used only once and are automatically locked after the exam has finished.

Syslog reporting for Sophos UTM
p3t3r replied to kearton's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I'll give Fastvue a try. The built in reporting on the Sophos UTM is truly awful and iview isn't much better. -

We're very pleased with our Sophos UTM 550 so far. Firewall, content filtering, AV, and email protection are all good. With regards to email encryption you can get it to scan outgoing emails for personal data and either blocked or auto encrypt. My only issue with Sophos is with its implementation of RADIUS as we cannot do single sign on from Aruba.

We have also been doing a similar SSD upgrade project. Just ordered a couple of hundred more. One of my team has a MooseFS (Features, Architecture and Requirements :: MooseFS network file system - Moose FS) project so we are putting lots of the old 2.5" drives into that. Its great to have ever expanding storage.

This year we've been focusing on developing our mobile friendly IT website. Students and staff will be able to activate there accounts online in September. We plan to text out a link to everyone so they can view the IT induction guide and login on their phones.

We have done GAfE O365. Our primary platform for collaboration is Google and the focus is on the teaching and learning side. The only reason we done O365 was for the Student Advantage for Office and so we turned off all the other functionality. Google was definitely the quickest and easiest to setup. I also think that it is simpler from the users perspective. The big advantage is that it opens up the use of Chromebooks! We have had good feedback so far from our users so far.

I'm not always too keen on using surveys unless there is something specific I want to find out. TPTB have a survey going on at the moment covering all support areas. Here are the questions we used for the IT section: Requests and queries are dealt with promptly The IT Services team is approachable and helpful The IT Services team provides a professional service I am fully satisfied with email availability and performance I am fully satisfied with the IT facilities in teaching spaces I am fully satisfied with the IT facilities in computer classrooms I am fully satisfied with file storage availability and performance I am fully satisfied with reprographics, printing and scanning I am fully satisfied with Moodle I am fully satisfied with the Wifi provision There are also a couple of free text fields. We'll have to wait and see what feedback we'll get and whether it is useful.
