Could it be something to do with in the Users profile under Profile Path - \\dibbler\users\yearx\username Home Folder connect h: \\dibbler\users\yearx\username Also witrhin Group Policy i have added the Office 2003 Group Policy object and set that to h:\ could that be affecting it.

Im sorry i have checked through both Group Policies but the it is still happening the work is still being copied down to the local machine.

I have researched all yesterday afternoon abouty this issue and all thay it says is disabling the offline caching and to disable this object in Group Policy "\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files\Allow or Disallow" I have also enabled and disabled the prevent use offline files folders. But is still not making any difference. Currently our home directory in the Group Policy\\servername\users\yearx\homedirectory users - this is a shared folder with offline caching disabled yearx - is a specific folder for which year the child is in (Not Shared) homedirectory - the folder for the pupil (Not Shared) We have re-directed My Documetns - Same Location going to home directory Desktop - Specified Location Start Menu - Specified Location Any more ideas faza

Yes that is correct ok, but when i done that i had the synchronisation arrows on the desktop icons to suggest that the folders are being synchronised.

I have tried removing the option from the user folders. I cant think what else i could try As it takes some time for all users to logon (up to 10 muinutes) as it is copying all the work down to the local machine then it has an effect on other users as it slows down the rest as it is still copying.

The home directories of the users are not shared.

I have done that but it is still copying the work across to the local machine. This is a roaming profile will this GPO still work?

Ric_ i have redirected the desktop and the Start Menu to a specific location. I think it is just the work that is being copied down to the local machine everytime a user logs in. Can this be stopped using offline files. Would i disable this is the group policy or on the local machine?

Should be a lot faster at logging on then aswell if it is not copying all the work across.

Will that stop the work and everything being copied to the local machine (the machine that the user is loggining on with)?

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2003 network with XP pro clients. When users logon to the network it copies everything from their home directory on the server to the local machine they are loggin on to. Is this correct? As you can imagine if the profile is large 300mb and there is like 100-150 users logging on simultaneously it is a really strain on the netowrk. Is this the correct procedure to copy all the work down to the workstation? If so how can i stop this happening, i thought a feasible solution would be to only logon on to the network and then to access the folders and files when the user neded them. This would reduce the network traffic tremendously.

Would i use the same code but instead of having a .log file have the details go into a Access Database.

Is there anything else as i cant get to grips with this piece of software.

Is there a facility in Windows Server 2003 where i can check who is logged onto what workstation (Past or Present)? I understand you can create logon scripts saying echo %computer name%, %username% >> \\servername\filename\logon.log etc... But that may cause problems when multiple users are trying to write to the log at the same time. Is there a progrmam or anything in Windows Server 2003 i can use? Hope you can help faza

------------------------------ Yes, we have a separate dns for the student domain. So we have one dns server for the staff domain and one dns for the student domain. We have one DHCP server resides on the staff domain, so when we specify the dns servers through the scope options we specify the staff dns then the students dns in that order. Would it be worth swapping the order so it is the student dns then the staff dns? But if i do that would it slow the staff login process???? I am at a loss :-( Faza

How are the 2 domains linked? Are they both seperate domains in the same forest or seperate domains in seperate forests with a trust relationship? Or is the staff domain the parent and the student domain the child? When you say you have two servers in the student domain do you mean 2 domain controllers? Does the first server (the one with the problems) hold both the FSMO roles as well as profiles and do file serving? Separeate forests but with a trust Yes we have 2 DC on the student domain. Yes the first one has the FSMO roles profiles, file serving and the printer queues.

CHRISH - I am using roaming profiles

We have a Windows Server 2003 machine and Windows XP Pro clients. We have two domains 1 for staff and 1 for kids. We have one DHCP server which sits on the staff domain which releases ip addresses to both domains. The first DNS entry within the dhcp server is the staff one. So therefore when the kids login and we look at the network settings we find that the 1st dns entry is the staff domain, then it is the kids domain then it is the external dns (ISP). The login time lately is really slow 15 mins max to login to the network. It just says on Loading profile, applyng policy etc.... We have two servers on the kids domain, but while all the 6 computer rooms are being used the performance on the first of the kids domain servers is 100% for both disk and the paging file. On the first server we have the printer queues installed and the home directories for the kids. Any ideas Faza

I have two Exchange Server 2003 servers One is the Live Server and the other is the backup server. currently i am automaticllay backing up the databses onto the backup server nightly. Is there anyway that i can repliacte or synchronise the mailboxes and all items to the backup server. So if the live server fails i can then just rename the backup server and users can continue to use the e-mail service. I have looked at SRS but when i enable the service the service is not available when i expand the tools menu any help would be really much appreciated!!! TIA Faza

I have just tried to migrate the mailboxes from one Exchange Server to another. I got an error message stating: Unable to perform the migration. Please enter a source Exchange Server outside of the Target Exchange Organisation.
