What about just a backup will that be ok?

Over the Summer Holiudays I am going to re-install Exchange 2003. What are the best protocols to follow? Currently the server is not perofming to its best. I am planning to format the server and re-install the O/S and then the Exchange 2003. I am a bit worried to if I format everything i will not be able to restore the databases. I have got the backups as of last friday. I perform the backups by using the backup program that comes with Server 2003, I back up the first storage | Information Store. Will that be enough? Also if i just do that will that restore all the mailboxes and mail and other outlook items? Would it be best if i remove it totally from Active Directory will that be ok? What would I need to perform to do that? Basically I would like to start from scratch either format the server and remove Exchange from the Active Directory or just format the server what ever is best. But I really do need to be sure that i can restore the databases, By just backing up using the backup program that comes with Server 2003 be ok would i need to backup the transaction logs??? Sorry about all these questions just want to be able to restore all the mailboxes so nobody loses their e-mail items. Faza

Yes i have tried everything but no policy is being applied.

I have Server 2003 and XP Pro Clients I have set a new OU called test and created a user called test. I have applied a group policy to the test ou only remove the run command and it is not being applied. I've tried selected enforced, and other common knowledge settings but to no avail. Is there any thin else i could try its a nightmare.

I have downlloaded wininstall but unsure on how to create a mst file.

Craig Sorry to be a pain but a MST file? never heard of that before. Is that just like a batch file net use command?

Could somebody advise me on if i am correctly setting the users area up. 1) I have a folder called users which is shared 2) Within that folder i have the different year groups folders which are also shared 3) Inside each year group folder is the pupils shared folder Within the AD i specify the home folder to be h:\ and \\servername\pupilarea Is this correct as still when the pupil selects up one level they are able to see the shares and then the domains. Can this be prevented Can anyone please help Any help would be very much appreciated!!! Faza

Hello, Is there anyway you can view a contact public folder in OWA. Is it possible to see it when you go to NEW | MAIL and then have it in the drop down menu where you have the option of selecting GAL or your own personal contact list. Faza

I have just tried this solution but this is not really want i need. I would like a secong Global Address List or a another shared contact list that all AD users can see. But the only thing is in this secong Global Address List or shared contacts i would like new e-mail addresses, e-mail addresses used for pupils so these pupils are not exactly in the AD structure.

Yes sounds like it mate! We have staff on a exchange server and the pupils on a totally different system not a exchange server. I am trying to find a way that we can setup something like a separate global address list that contains all the pupils e-mail addresses, so the staff can e-mail pupils. Faza

At present we are running a Exchange Server 2003 with Outlook 2003 clients for members of staff. Is it possible to create just another global address list solely for the pupils, not a new exchange server just a new global address list. If we attach a new global address list to the current one the list would be endless Is there anyway this could be done or am i pushing it LOL Cheers in advace Faza
