[windows software] Office 365 ProPlus vs Perpetual Licensing

Anyone know more details on what you will actually lose connection to, surly you'll still be able pull mail via IMAP, will autodiscover still work? -
Been using Handbrake here as well. I use the following settings if it is of any use. Video Container = mp4 Video Codec = H.264 (H.265 doesn't seem to be worth the added encode time) x264 Preset = Slow 2-Pass Encoding (makes a significant difference IMHO) 1080p Average Bit rate = 4000 kbps 720p Average Bit rate = 2400 kbps 480p Average Bit rate = 1600 kbps This reduces iPad videos to about a 1/4 their original file size with out much noticeable difference in quality.

Have you tried changing the "Move the contents of *folder* to the new location" to Disabled for each redirected folder. If you don't have a requirement to copy anything over, it might be worth testing. For example, the time it takes to process the folder redirection policy (i5 PC with SSD)... If I have it set to Enabled for all redirect folders the very first login from a new user = 50 sec first login on a different PC = 9 sec subsequent logins = 0 sec If I have it set to Disable for all redirected folder very first login from a new user = 2 sec first login on a different PC = 2 sec subsequent logins = 0 sec I don't pre-populate the new users folders, that also might make a difference, not tested that yet.

[1709, fcu] Disable access to Windows 10 "Safe Mode" etc
ollyyllo replied to staceyh74's topic in Windows 10
If you don't find a way to hide the safe mode boot options, you can set the following reg key to restrict non admin users from logging on after safe mode is launched. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System SafeModeBlockNonAdmins = 1 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/977542/a-hotfix-is-available-to-block-standard-users-from-logging-on-to-a-win Still works on Windows 10 1709 -
[1709, fcu] Disable access to Windows 10 "Safe Mode" etc
ollyyllo replied to staceyh74's topic in Windows 10
You can try the following command Reagentc /disable Should remove all of the advanced options (system restore, cmd prompt, startup repair, system image recovery) but you will still be left with the safe mode options. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/manufacture/desktop/reagentc-command-line-options -

Ctrl + Alt + Delete is disabled here. It is also worth disabling the Windows 10 Lockscreen. Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization Do not display the lock screen - Enabled

Another GDPR question - Laptop No TPM Chip
ollyyllo replied to dapaulio's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Just started setting this up. Not sure what the best approach for setting the passwords is? Do you let the teacher set it the same as thier login so its easier for them to remember? (would this leave the encryption vulnerable in any way?) Or do you require them to learn an additional password? Obviously the most secure approach is, unique complex password for each laptop, what are your experiences? Edit: Is the AD intergration just for recovering the key, or can you set it up to use the users domain password? -
Our controller is behind a proxy, like you the AP's can't connect so they don't update. For the time being I have been able to upgraded the firmware using the Standard SSH Method without any problems.

Try the disallow rule without the trailing backslash i.e. D:

Can confirm Arthur's suggestions all help alot. Running Windows 10 1703 with first logon about 1 min on HDD and about 40 sec on SSD. Group policies take about 15 secs (I think i can improve that though) Using Local Profiles, tried roaming and mandatory, could only get local to work in a reasonble time. Do you have a simple start menu tiles layout (LayoutModifications.xml) I remember when testing it seemed to improve logon times having it rather than not. Are you redirecting the start menu, I found doing so caused problems and slowdowns? Not sure if that's the case for everyone, but if you are using the LayoutModifications GPO, I dont see there is much benefit in redirecting the startmenu anyway.

Prevent Training website keeps crashing.
ollyyllo replied to ollyyllo's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Bump, still crashing halfway through for IE and Firefox (the recommened browsers!) Flash - 27.0.0.183 Firefox - 56.0.2 IE - 11.483.15063.0 Windows 10 Pro 1703 Can anyone with the same setup get near to the end without it crashing? Any idea why it would be working on Chorme but not IE, Firefox? -
Not sure if this is the right place to post this but... Is the Prevent Training (Channel General Awareness) website working for you? engine Ive been advised it should run on either Firefox or IE, but it keeps crashing halfway through for me, I cant figure out why, it's always worked before. Thanks Edit: Seems to work best on Chrome, still would be useful to know if anyone else is having problems running it from IE or Firefox. Doesn't work on Edge either but they said its not supported anyway.

Compatible Display card for optiplex 790 PC
ollyyllo replied to genesis's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
@genesis I presume you are talking about the SFF optiplex 790 Remember to check the card length and height. I have an optiplex 390 that I think is a very similar build to the 790 and there is only about 35mm room for the heatsink. the card is about 155mm in length, if it was any longer it would be a pain to get to the pci release button. Edit: looks like the 790 release button is on the side/top, the 390 has it underneath, so you may get away with a longer card. -
You are basically turning of the personal assistant aspect of Cortana. The search bar next to the start menu should be simplified now. The process still needs to run to provide search results.

Compatible Display card for optiplex 790 PC
ollyyllo replied to genesis's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
You will struggle to find a low profile card with 2 VGA Most of the cheap cards come with HDMI DVI and VGA, the VGA is usually attached by a ribbon, so you could place it a seperate bracket, using these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BNE6NN0 You would also need a DVI to VGA adapter -
Mapping using ip will be fine, not being able to set the default printer is annoying though. I'll do some testing, mabye a combo of both will work. Thanks

Are there any problems deploying printers via GPP under Computer configuration? At the moment I have it set up using Item Level targeting with the GPP under User Configuration - it works fine. The reason I wanted to swap is that setting it via the Computer GPP you get a cleaner printer name, eg 'Printer 01' rather than 'Printer 01 on PrintServer1' For some reason I have it in my head not to deploy via Computer configuraton, but cannot remember why. Looking for a sanity check, am I safe to switch? Thanks

If you go to Computer Management - Shared Folders - Open Files, that might give you some indication if it is open.

Hi Sparky28 Try the renaming like this ren "D:\Shares\Teachers-Shared\Planning Archive\Computing\Evidence Video" ev Because you have a space at 'Evidence Video', you need quotes around the path.

Is this from the onboard graphics? What chip is it, or what graphics card model? Looks like some models of these Compaq come with Intel HD Graphics 3000 I have some laptops with that chip that do a very similar thing. If you can find the setting 'Display Refresh Rate Switching' and uncheck it, that might work?

Some simples things if you haven't already checked... Are the machine in the same OU as other machines that are working? Are you using security filtering on any of your GPO's, are the machines in the required groups?
