I think practically every school I've ever worked in uses Groupcall. Why would this influence the speed of SIMS? Most of the time it actions changes in the early hours of the morning, but I'd consider it light compared to SIMS itself.

DB sizes looking at two examples are 1.3GB and 2GB - both Primaries, so definitely not massive.

Agreed - I think in part this has been since the .NET Framework 4.7 requirement. The only solution are much faster workstations - SSDs make a big difference.

Any reason why you cannot demote the problematic DC and re-promote it?

I think I've got to the bottom of this - On the per-user MFA page, highlight the user, select Manage user settings > Require selected users to provide contact methods again

Hi all, I have an O365 tenancy and have turned off 2FA to resolve problems users were experiencing. Signing in as an end user (no roles), navigating to their initials > View account > Update Info (under Security info) and I'm asked to use the MS Authenticator even after an hour. Manage security defaults are turned off, as are per-user MFA with no conditional access rules set. Why is this happening and how do I resolve it?

That makes sense, if WSUS isn't set to approve updates automatically. I use WUfB so all updates are approved, so long as they've been published for 30+ days (the way I have things setup).

I've not seen or observed any issues with Outlook 2016, but I know if you installed a fresh copy of Outlook, it'd require updates before successfully connecting to Exchange Online. As for what happens if you updated Outlook so far, blocked updates and then Microsoft increased the minimum (with an existing/working setup), maybe it's something along these lines!?

The only issue I've found so far in removing IE, is Office Add-ins (if you use them). We just need Microsoft to fix this propriety mess, as I'm not aware of a fix. Scroll down for the table of information and you'll see what I mean.

France says non to Office 365 and Google Workspace in school
Michael replied to fiza's topic in General Chat
The thing is, how far do you want to go? - They'll need an EU OS - client and server - They'll need an EU search engine - They'll need an EU enterprise email and file storage solution Easy, I'll make a start this weekend -
Deploying printers just doesnt want to work
Michael replied to Sonic007's topic in Windows Server 2016
I'm yet to hear of any reports. So long as your print server's behind a firewall and you've restricted connections to just your server.fqdn it's the best you can do. -

What is it the paid for services offer the free for education services don't offer? GDPR is GDPR, regardless of the version used. -
Papercut v16 is very old, with the latest being v22 - it might be a security risk, but shouldn't influence this issue. Upgrading drivers to either PCL6 and/or PS depending on requirements. I presume you have the latest security updates applied on both server and clients? Ideally they should match or be very similar. Using FQDN print shares can improve reliability - I use GPP to deploy printers. I'd say most likely it's drivers which are creating problems with the spooler service.

Two questions come to mind - - What are French and German enterprises using? - What are the respective Governments using? Let me guess, a Windows 98 file server and open source email? -
Yes, lots of different sites over the years. Do you need help with settings?

Was on for all my tenants... now off for all my tenants. I'm just not sure in practice how it'd work or be possible, especially the hoops you have to go through to prove you're a school, or pay up if you're a business customer!

I guess security risks are greatly mitigated then, but in such a scenario, WSUS or manually is the only viable way. I can and do set server and client WUfB GPOs ever so slightly differently, but they're still talking to Microsoft Update.

Sign out Edge Profile
Michael replied to Steven_Cleaver's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I see several solutions/test for this - - If a user logs onto a new machine, with a new Windows profile, does the problem remain? - In Chrome/Edge, you can create an additional profile, which of course is isolated from the primary profile - In Chrome/Edge, navigating to chrome://settings/content/all you can cherry pick and remove cookies/cache for particular websites I can't really see a viable automated way, given the domain name is one and the same, just a different tenant (as one possibility). All I can tell you is deleting the browser cache fully in such scenarios does work. -
Unfortunately no (if only it were that simple), but I think it had something to do with .xml not being listed as an extension within Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type. This kind of makes sense, seeing as my Chrome answer file above is approving Chrome for all common/known extensions. There probably is another way, but this GPP method was quick and easy.

All my servers update via WUfB.
-
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with WSUS - I did too in the past, before changing over to WUfB. Do I have any regrets? Absolutely not - clients download Windows/Office updates, so long as the update's been published for more than 30 days (my configuration, all using GPOs). More and more users are using notebooks, so will continue to work/update even off site for many months.

Do you mean like migrating the same domain from one O365 tenancy to another? If so I've experienced similar, and despite DNS all being correct, users should (recommended) completely delete their browser cache and start again. Pressing Ctrl+F5 isn't always enough. -
All those extensions are in my file associations file, posted above

Another request came in - XML files, but easily resolved as follows - User Config > Preferences > Control Panel Settings > Folder Options > New > Open With, then populate as follows -
