I thought that might be the case. Our trial (set up in conjuction with an Apple reseller and their Apple certified engineer) essentially gives the students ownership of the device. I can install apps onto there and see what they have installed (through Meraki) but that is about it. I cannot enforce an application blacklist (though I can enforce age restrictions on apps and other downloads) and cannot uninstall apps from their devices. It has certainly been an interesting trial and, possibly, it may turn out that supervised devices may be a better fit.

We're right at the start of our BYOD journey so this is a very interesting thread. I'd be interested in seeing how other schools force IPads (or other tablets) to connect back to your proxy once they have left the school premises and also what MDM you use. The free version of Meraki seem useful but also somewhat limited.

Secondary school here. We moved to a 2:2:1 model as below this year. Registration\assembly 0830-0850 Period 1 0850-0950 Period 2 0950-1050 BREAK 1050-1110 Period 3 1110-1210 Period 4 1210-1310 LUNCH 1310-1400 Period 5 1400-1500 After school sessions 1500-1600 Seems to be working well. Only having one session after lunch has been very well received, particularly on a Friday!

I've been playing it for about a year and a half now. Totally addicted! What really changed it for me was when I joined a clan along with one of my workmates. I now chat via Teamspeak with people in Holland, Belgium, Croatia, Venezuela, etc and often play in a platoon (up to 3 people) or stronghold (8-10 members of our clan against another). It is much more enjoyable that way. In terms of paying for stuff, I pay for a premium account (around £10\month) and buy gold occasionally (though you don't have to do this). For the amount I get out of it I don't resent paying £10-£20 a month to play it (it's about 6 pints!) The only tanks you have to buy with 'real cash' to are premium ones but, to be honest, they aren't the best in the game so you wouldn't be missing out on anything by not buying them. Try it and see what you think. There is a learning curve to it and tactics are important too (a lot of new players just tend to rush off and die pretty much instantly). This is a decent guide to read, though it's a couple of years old now.

Have spent an interesting couple of hours looking into this. Essentially I want to upload several VBK files (fortunately none of them are above 1TB). A problem is that Chrome or Google Drive uploader will swamp your bandwidth and there is no throttling involved. Found this very interesting post about setting up policy based QOS on a W7 PC. It works a treat! We have a 100 Mbps connection and I have set my outbound throttle rate to 3750 KBps to run overnight. In the day I'll wind it back a bit. Be interesting to see if it works, but offsite storage of my backups for free is a massive bonus.

So far I've pushed things like our core switch configs and other similar stuff onto there. I like the idea of it being a dump of our VEEAM monthly backups. We keep tapes but it would be handy to have these on there too (and we could have quite an extensive archive if it is truly unlimited). However it is finding the right time to do it and not swamping our bandwidth.

I like the idea of offsite storage for backups. How are you guys uploading them? I did a test upload and it swamped our bandwidth! Is anyone using anything to trickle the upload?

Entire network down due to a broadcast storm. Phonecall received at 0650 meaning I had to run into work (fortunately I live close by) straight from bed. I've had better starts to a term.

Another vote for Google Classrooms here. We use Fronter at the moment and are gradually transitioning content across. Google Classrooms takeup has been pretty immediate compared with when we implemented Fronter.

We've just been going through this as our Maths department wants interactive 'something'. Unfortunately interactive projectors aren't an option for us as our classrooms have teaching walls full of cupboards and we couldn't fit a short throw projector. We made the decision to go for interactive whiteboards. The cost (including installation) is around £1200 and means we can continue using our projectors. As with some of you, we won't be fitting LCD panels until the prices drop dramatically.

Ah. I have no Options.txt file, do you need it? I thought it was optional and used for disabling\enabling functionality within Live itself. I have made alterations to the library.cfg file and that has been copied over.

I think the only thing I haven't done is put the options.txt file in the shared location. I'll give that a go, thanks.

I don't think it's that bad considering you aren't the Network Manager so miss out on quite a bit of responsibility. I'd consider if it I were nearer, I like the idea of concentrating on the techie bits.

Our scenario is we have a room full of iMacs which all students can logon to. Therefore I need to install Ableton in such a way that any user can logon and use it. It has been unbelievably difficult! I have managed to get it to a point where it is no licensed for all users, but I cannot get the additional packs to work for all users only for the administrator. I have followed all the instructions which can be found here and am now stuck! I have had a call open with Ableton since 21 November but they haven't replied, have ignored all my follow up emails, and ignored my tweet to them as well! Hence I'm posting here! Any help anyone can offer will be extremely welcome!

How did those of you who are on 2012 R2 handle migrating DHCP and DNS. Was it easy? We also have Radius on one of our DCs, so I'd be interested if anyone migrated that too.

Another ITIL foundation-er here. I did it in 2003 and it seems it hasn't aged well (it was dry and boring then too!)

We use Corero. Something to be aware of is it doesn't work very nicely if you're using Google Mail (designed to hook into Exchange).

Some of our teachers have it. Not impressed to be fair. The auto-sync is broken here so they have to manually poke it every time they want to sync.

We're having a really strange problem, be interesting to see if anyone else is experiencing it. Occasionally certain websites (like Learn to code | Codecademy) come up with something like a 404 error in Chrome but work fine in IE. It's maddening when it happens, and because it doesn't happen constantly it's difficult to troubleshoot. Is anyone else seeing anything like this?

So. How many people are considering whether or not to renew their SWGFL contracts when they expire?!

I've never tried it, but I've heard it can be problematic. Have you tried the VEEAM forums? They're a very friendly bunch.

I've been 'pumping iron' for about 25 years now and have pretty much made all the mistakes there are to make (trapped under a bar whilst doing bench press - tick, ripping various muscles - tick, etc, etc) Some good advice on this thread but if I were starting again I would pay for a few sessions with a qualified instructor to design a bespoke program for me. They should also be able to advise you on nutrition. My personal biggest tip would be to start light and concentrate on using the correct form for all your exercises (which a good instructor can show you). Once you've got the correct form (which will take time) you can then start gradually increasing the weight etc. I see many people at my gym with terrible form and there's a good chance of injuring yourself if you're piling the weights on and not doing it properly.

I've not uploaded it to VSphere and am running it on my W7 PC. I tried and failed to get it working on Virtualbox (it needed a BIOS setting that my PC doesn't have) but I have it running fine on VMWare Player.

Downloading it here too. No time to think about rolling it our for the foreseeable future and as we seem to be purchasing Apple stuff like crazy at the moment I don't know how many PC's we'll be left with in a couple of years.
