I've been told that you are supposed to change UPS batteries every three-four years and the entire UPS about every seven or eight years. Apparently modern UPS' are nothing like as well built as they were and the circuit boards start to degrade. Last time I used Value Power Systems who were incredibly helpful.

I agree 100% with this. It's like they were running out of ideas and were just regurgitating old stuff. Definitely time for a change.

Has anyone used VMWare's VSAN?

We have 1200 users, 30 servers and 1200-ish clients (wired and wireless) and just three of us to run it! I'm off in a fortnight and they're 'going to see how they get on with 2' for a few months (I can predict how they will as we struggle with 3). Where you worked sounds like heaven!

VEEAM here. Brilliant product and service. We use Disk-Disk-Tape and I've ran a DR test at one of our local service providers. They got 4 of my core servers back (which was the test) with no issues whatsoever.

Our setup basically mirrors that of tmcd35 above. My two technicians and I were all in one big room (which I actually liked) but were forced out of it as they wanted it as a conference room. Since I've got my own office I've been able to perform the 'IT Manager' role much more effectively and not get dragged off into minutiae which used to happen a lot.

We use Terminal Server SIMS here. I would not go back to an on-site box!

Same as everyone else really, when they die! Ours are almost 6 years old now. Can't imagine a bit reinvestment unless we move to 10GbE but with the way budgets are going I doubt that is going to be a concern in the near future.

My predecessor didn't believe in putting AV on servers either. It was one of the first things I did when he left! I use ESET NOD32 File Security for Windows Server. Pretty lightweight, easy to manage and install and I've never noticed any problems.

I've seen something similar to this when a user's Chrome profile gets corrupted. To fix it you have to first of all kill Chrome (if it's running in the background). AOMEI Remote Process Explorer is very handy, or the Sysinternals suite (pslist and pskill). Then you need to rename C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default to something like 'Default.old' Then try opening Chrome again. If it opens then it was the profile.

Good work! The last time I looked into this we ended up just giving them a very restricted desktop and start menu with just Wordpad available.

Hate that tank and I spent a fortune putting a rammer and GLD on it too. I just think compared with the Bulldog it's a real comedown. Although I'm probably not a good enough player to use it effectively. Also, with the T69 (which has a similar reload time) at least you get 4 shots. If I had my time again I wouldn't buy it I don't think.

I'm finding the recent nerfs to aiming have really impacted on the ease of earning credits. Before I rarely lost credits in a tier 8, even when losing matches. Now if you have a bad match in a tier 7 you can lose credits! On the plus side it's a real incentive to improve the way you play (though very annoying when you're on one of those lemming teams where you're 6-0 down in the first few minutes).

Glad it helped! Good you've managed with just freemium. Unfortunately, as you head towards the top tiers (8 and above), it starts becoming very easy to lose credits on battles if you don't have a good one. Without a premium account it could prove difficult (though people are doing it so it isn't impossible). The clan I'm in is very active and are always looking for new members so if you're interested drop me a PM and I'll mention it to the clan recruiters. You'll need to install Teamspeak (which is great as we chat in battles) but it's free so no big problem. ELC is a very fun tank, though the lack of turret rotation can be a bit frustrating. The Chaffee (US tier 5 scout) is another good one.

The 'old' connector just worked without any problems which makes it even more annoying! I am emailing Mintclass as I speak as ZiNET is filling it's log with errors.

It uses something called ZiNET to speak to SIMS. I have to say this (which is new) hasn't been very impressive so far. It seems to crash pretty frequently.

Did a bit of googling and found this site which, whilst it is almost two years old, gives a nice summary of what Google Vault is and isn't. In summary, it isn't a backup solution, more an audit-type solution.

Is it just me or is it not very intuitive? I've had a quick play and set up a retention rule and a 'Matters' but I don't really know what I'm doing. The online documentation seems pretty woeful too.

Did it just appear in your Admin console or in your apps? I don't appear to have it yet, which is a bit frustrating. - - - Updated - - - Ah! I've just checked in my 'Apps' and it is there but disabled. Turning it on now!

I've used the Office Customisation Tool to push 2013 over 2007 and, as part of the install, I removed 2007 so it works well.

Hi all We are in the middle of an IPad trial and are currently using the free version of Meraki MDM. We've given the IPads to our test students as, essentially, BYOD devices so they can install what they want. Given the recent Daily Mail article and thread on here I and my line manager are interested in seeing how other schools control their IPads. My line manager has seen Lightspeed at a school in Yorkshire and seems to think it gives a much greater degree of control over BYOD Ipads (as opposed to supervised) than Meraki does. I don't know if this is the case or not, but it would be good to see Lightspeed and IPads in action. So, if you're a school who uses IPads and Lightspeed, makes the IPads use your filtered internet connection, and controls what apps the kids use (i.e. you let them install apps, but blacklist others and remove them if necessary) and wouldn't mind giving us a demo it would be very gratefully received. We're based in South Devon so can travel up to Birmingham or to London within a day, so can travel to anywhere within this 'catchment area'. Many thanks if you can help.
