I think that's precisely @Koldov's point. There is no cookie-cutter answer. It's going to vary from school to school. Where I work, there's 5 of us (Well, 3 directly in 'ICT Support' (myself as NM and 2 techs), one IT Director for the trust, and one person who predominately deals with data, emails and MIS), ~350 kids, ~10 servers, mostly virtual, and most of the stuff is in cloud. 365 and OneDrive everywhere. Intune for deployment and management of the few school devices we have. To some, 5 of us would sound like overkill. But we're also 90% 1:1 staff devices, and BYOD for the kids. Is it still overkill? What if I told you we're also a boarding school. How does that change your opinion of techs:kids or techs:devices ratios? Maybe I should mention the bit where we have something like 12 different buildings, including over 5 boarding houses, which require constant connectivity as per DfE guidelines? Suddenly 5 IT Support to 350 kids doesn't sound so bizarre, I'd hope. The amount of support personnel you require is going to depend on your school's setup, acceptable minimum levels of service, acceptable minimum response/resolution time, hardware and software complexity, and many many other special considerations. It's also going to depend on how specialised some or any of your kit is, and the knowledge and capabilities of your team. There's really no easy answer for this. Edit: Typically you hire based on where your gaps are. Maybe you don't have enough time, so a generalist will do. Maybe your team aren't very knowledgeable about a certain aspect. Can that be plugged with further training, or is it such a big aspect that it would be better suited to having a dedicated (or semi-dedicated) body for it? Maybe it's incredibly complex, but also a non-issue the vast majority of the time? Probably not worth hiring an extra bod, maybe consider third party support for X amount of hours? etc

Because one of the bits of advice we give people during security training is to hover over a link to see where it goes. Sure, it's not like every PC in the world is suddenly compromised, but let's face it - why make a system less secure for no good reason? I appreciate anybody can make any file extension they like. There's no reason I couldn't write a piece of software that used .co.uk as its file type, or .org, but if it's a common filetype that every computer has the ability to open (except maybe unix-based systems because they use tarballs, I think?) we really shouldn't be making it easier to exploit with no good cause. Who is .zip even aimed at? What company needs a .zip domain?

That's the same as how I feel. A little bit of envy in there, sure, but mostly it's just.. I dunno, uncanny valley? At a distance it looks like shiny metal, but then the reflections don't move as I do and my brain goes 'whoah, hang on a minute, something doesn't add up...' When it's done on just a sword, or some other little detail, it really pops. That's where I'll be trying to do it, anyway. Swords and aquillas.

I have to agree, whilst it takes a lot of skill and patience to pull off NMM (I'll be trying it shortly with my Sisters, gulp!) there's some models where it's just too much. I feel it's best used when used sparingly.

You cannot run them both side-by-side. Installing new LAPS bricks .msi LAPS. ISTR articles saying if you uninstalled new LAPS, .msi LAPS would resume working. So that may be your interim solution.

Undercoat does make a difference for contrast paints, since they're largely translucent. Famously exploited by the slap-chop method.

A) Points for correctly using an interrobang B) It's one of those 'well-known but never spoken' secrets that GW sell things in their own stores for ≈50% markup to what they sell wholesale, which allows third parties to significantly undercut but still turn a profit. I, personally, buy my models and paints fairly exclusively from Wayland Games as they're significantly cheaper (see the SoB purchase earlier in this thread, 76 quid as opposed to £95 from GW) Hobby Workshop is also acceptable if WG don't have it in stock (Same box, £78.85) If I'm in a GW for an extended period of time, such as playing an actual game, I might pick up a few paints or something, but I'm never going to be buying half my army there just because of the prices.

The galaxy/nebula effect is actually really easy to achieve! It does need an airbrush, but only in a really basic way. Prime black, airbrush white as the nebula smoke, do some heavier airbrushing whilst obstructing part of it to make dust clouds (I use tear-offs from the cork sheet I use on the bases), then slap on blue and purple ink, mix it a little bit, job's a good'un! Pretty much , although I've ended up adding stars after the colour so they're more noticeable at tabletop distance, and I also thin my inks (I use Vallejo Game Ink Azul Blue and Vallejo Game Ink Violet) with a few drops of Lahmian Medium. I want you to know I hold you personally responsible for this

Well, I've been on quite the painting adventure, recently. So firstly I had Tyranid Prime painted with my paint scheme 2.0, and I was happy with it for a while After some reflection, though, I decided I wasn't too happy with the skin. It was too bright and too human-like, it ended up looking uncanny, but in a bad way. So version 2.1 was made, and a second Warrior was painted with a darker skin colour. I definitely think that the darker skin looks better. Very much makes them look more alien. BUT (and let's admit it, we all knew there was a 'but' coming..) Now that the Leviathan box has been announced, and all the fancy new toys 'nids are getting in a few months, I decided to try and learn some better painting techniques. No more reliance on drybrushing, no more being afraid of edge highlighting, highlights being manually applied, some proper attempts at intermediate layers and smoother transitions, and there's even a few glazes in there! So now there's a third Warrior painted, and whilst it certainly won't be earning me any Golden Demons, I'm very happy with it.

It has come to our attention that References/Researcher and References/Smart Lookup can be used to be a little bit cheaty in exams. And of course, by 'come to our attention' I mean 'my tech caught a kid doing it', thankfully only during a mock exam. We have been able to block the Smart Lookup menu by setting HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common, InsightsEnabled (REG_DWORD), 0, but we're struggling with the Researcher option. Using the Researcher option, you can lookup information and even read wikipedia pages without ever opening a web browser or leaving Word itself. I'm aware that this is one of those things that invigilators should catch, but given you don't even need to tab out of Office, I can see it quite easy to covertly pull off. So why not just set a bogus proxy and block all traffic to the user? Well A) because other accessibility software we use goes out over the 'net to confirm its license is valid, and B) I tried that and it didn't work anyway. Even with a proxy set as 127.0.0.1:404, MSOffice can still chat to the internet. My assumption is that it isn't doing this over :80 or :443 and thus isn't going to the web filter. So, ExamWritePad then? Nope, due to a high volume of EAL pupils, some pupils have spell checking and translation options enabled. Throw the exam board's 'must be their usual way of working' thing into the mix and it looks like it's gotta be Word. Google has found me a visual basic command (Application.CommandBars("Research").Enabled = False) but that relies on being manually set and Word remembering the preference. Since this is likely to be a per-user-per-device setting, and the exam accounts are purged on logoff, that seems like it wouldn't work. I also found a big list of controls that should be settable in the User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Word 2016*\Disable Items in User Interface\Custom\Disable Commands, which I've set as 7343,26991,7387,27320,25536 (which is ResearchPane (toggleButton), Researcher (button), ReadingViewResearchPane (button), GroupResearch (group), and Insights (button)**, but that hasn't proved fruitful either. How are other people combatting this? Are others even combatting this? Or is this a new thing in Word that people aren't aware of? * Are we still using the 2016 GPO's even for MSOffice 365 ClickToRun? This MS download link as of April 21st does say Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise but all the GPO's are still called access16, excel16 etc. ** It's not immediately obviously part of Researcher, but the Group/Context Menu Name is listed as GroupResearch.

I've found similar, it takes a bit more grunt to remove the primer. I assume they put something extra in the primer that makes it harder to break down, though it does eventually give with some vigorous scrubbing. That being said, I've been using Citadel and Army Painter spray primers, so not quite a fair comparison. I've left a model in the spirit for 24 hours with no discernible damage to it, but I should probably add the caveat that I've also only tested this with plastic Citadel models. YMMV with resin or metal models, or models from another manufacturer. Definitely do a test first! I used a wych, and a termagant I'd painted in my blue scheme and varnished as testers because I'm not too fussed about losing them.

You really shouldn't be tempting me like this I think I'm going to strip all my Drukhari and repaint them. Well, I say 'repaint' only some are properly painted, then I have a unit of Kabalites I painted with a scheme I decided not to use, and then a bunch of other models (mostly wych cult ones) are random test schemes. I've been testing different methods and the best cost-to-performance ratio seems to be just straight methylated sprit. Leave the model to soak for about 5 minutes, scrub with an old toothbrush, repeat as required. Leave to soak in regular water overnight and it stops any residue buildup. Job done. It even eats through varnish!

Truth be told I'm not 100% sold on the wings being in the lower sockets, nor the pose of the Winged Tyranid Prime.. But let's be real, if I were to buy everything else individually I'd still probably pay over the £150 it's rumoured to be sold for. I'm uhming and ahing about whether I just flip the Marines on eBay since I don't actually care for Marine or Marine-adjacent armies much* or try to actually paint them. I've been experimenting with layering and glazing recently (instead of just drybrushing everything) and I'm starting to get the hang of it, I think. So I might use them to practice edge highlighting and smooth transitions. * Okay, except maybe Sisters of Battle. I'm kind of tempted by them, but I already have enough Tyranids and Drukhari that need painting..

Definitely buying the box if I can beat out the scalpers. Probably shift the Marines on eBay, maybe I'll just paint them anyway, I dunno. We'll see.

To be fair, the printed carriage weight on the label sounds about right for a GPU, so with that plus the label damage, it would appear the correct item was shipped. Maybe the company cheaped out and shipped it without a box, so anybody involved in carriage could see the contents, someone recognised what it was (and how much they could flip it for on ebay), and did the ol' switcharoo. With some digging (and carrier co-operation) you might be able to pin down where the switch was made, but good luck with that.
