The headline cost is £19, but we pay £16 - haggle. The licence is associated with the device. If the device breaks, you can deprovision the device and the licence becomes avaliable again, but only for the same model of device. When you enrol a device, the user you use to enrol it goes down on the management console as the user - but this means little and can be changed on the management console. There are two good Google Sheets Add-ons to bulk manage devices - ChromebookInventory and ChromeGopher or you can use the commandline tool GAM. When you enroll a device now, you have the option to put in an Asset ID and a location.

All staff have Chromebooks here. Easy to manage, reliable and staff seem to like them. Not much to go wrong. For SIMS access we use Ericom AccessNow + Ericom Secure Gateway - works well.

No you cannot - the setting is domain wide. Why would you want to do this? The whole idea of G Suite is collaboration and working together.

We use Hapara Teacher Dashboard - that has a component called Highlights which allows teacher to monitor and control their classes Chromebooks. Works really well in our 1:1 environment.

You can add/sync students to a classroom with GAM. I run this as a scheduled task weekly so classrooms are kept up to date based on our Google Group membership. gam csv groups.csv gam course ~group sync students group ~groupemail groups.csv = list of all our google groups + group email address with the following headings: groupmail = group email address group = group name/alias As groups change little during the year (i.e. its rare for new classes to appear during the year) this runs without intervention during the year.

At login the machine will auto connect to the wifi you push to it. Once logged in the user is restricted to the SSID you enforce (if you do this). When they logoff - it back to whatever you push to the device. I suppose if you have an open network they could connect to that - but if there is no internet they cannot login and get nowhere. The user would then put it back to the SSID its meant to be on or restart and it would do it itself.

If you deploy the WiFi to the device, they cannot edit the settings associated with that SSID - so there is nothing to mess up. They may try and us a mobile hotspot, but get dumped back onto the school network once logged in. If you use filtering that works on and offsite, its all rather academic. We find students don't bother as it makes no difference and they just use up their own mobile data.

That should work. Remember that this will apply to any user of that device.

I believe you can apply it to both. We use that policy on our trolley devices/Chromeboxes/bases so they can only connect to the school wifi. These devices never go home or off site. I'd not apply it to users as it would restrict where they can work or any devices that might go offsite e.g. 1:1/Staff devices.

For a list of just words, use the "Objectionable content" option. For a phrase, use "Content compliance" and select "Advanced content match" and then "contains text". The it will look for the string, rather than just the word (see: https://support.google.com/a/answer/1346934?hl=en). We just use about 20 objectionable content words and leave the clever stuff to Securly Auditor. This is free to all Edu domains - even if you don't use their content filter (which we do). https://www.securly.com/auditor

Its $15 per machine for the Cloudready licence (thats the basic annual fee you get renewal discounts). One off £16 for a ChromeOS management licence (thats what we pay). So a little over £30 up front and about £10 thereafter. Thats what we pay. I'd not pay for the perpetual licence for an old bit of kit. If we get loads more I might go for the site licence.

Well we turned useless old Macs into useful Workstations for about £35 a pop - won't get much new for that....

You manage them as any other ChromeOS devices - the user tab is just me as a Cloudready user. You need this + ChromeOS management licence. So all use management is done in the G Suite management console.

Under devices - you can see all licenced devices and revoke licences.

Its not possible to change the default wallpaper - it's set by the manufacture of the device. Most new devices default to the blue "swish" now. Dells are the weirdest with the lizard.

I'd not worry too much about the end of life thing. We have black Samsungs that went end of life last year - they still pick up updates and work fine. Not sure if you could go Cloudready on them. You can install other OSs - but in involves developer mode - so maybe not for general use.

It is ChromeOS - there is no real difference. On the Cloudready management console, there are a few options to control Flash and the like - thats it. It tends to be one or two versions behind the current stable channel. We buy Chromeboxes/bases from Getech/C-Learning or lambda-tek.com (e.g. https://www.lambda-tek.com/ASUS-CHROMEBOX2-G083U~sh/B4235470)

Yes - we use it. I have popped it on some old Apple Macs. Turns them into great Chromebases. We use them in our library. Pretty simple to do - just make a usb boot disk and follow the install prompts. Enroll like any other ChromeOS device once its installed. I'm considering moving more of our workstations to it to get rid of as much Windows as possible.

They are a well-respected add-on makers - Awesome table for sites is also very good. However, you are giving permission for the code of the addon to create a file and read the contents of your Drive. You are not sending data anywhere other than Google land. We use many addons with any issues and I centrally deploy quite a lot for users. In the management console you can revoke addon permissions at anytime for any users - under Security on their account.

It's unlimited on an Edu account. Windows reports the same in file stream regardless of how much you dump into Drive. Our top user has about 22Tb in their Drive - so some way to go to get to 1Eb. However, I'll warn them that they may only have 999978Tb free...

I use the Sheets Add-On "Photo Gallery by Awesome Table". You just run the addon and point it at the folder or Photo album and it will put all the photos into a Slide presentation. You can then print this is a wide variety of ways.

Wow - people have a lot of cash to spend. All our staff have HP 11 G4 Chromebooks (LG have 13" Acer's) cost us £125 each + management licence - work fine - one broken screen the other day - £25 to fix. With £500 I could get an nice touch flip Asus C302.

Works on Windows 7 32bit here. Does not work on Win 10 1607 and above with Secure Boot enabled yet.

Not seem EB in Windows before....

Yes - works fine. Drive Stream appears as an app and prompts you to sign in when you run it. Does not appear to work if one user is logged in and then you switch user and another user tries to use it at the same time.
