Probably but it has only been a few days, I expect there to be more but probably not enough to issue a recall. Given the videos though it does show a staggering lack of build quality in comparison to the 'cheap' alternatives. The RDF will be working overtime to portray several centuries of pockets as a bad idea from the start.

Umm, you are right about not exposing AD, if it was absolutely required with no other way available I'd firewall it to only be accessible to the providers IP but totally not a good idea, ADFS and ADAM were designed and built for a reason. As to MS running Apache, maybe on a few sites but not on their main ones Which Web Server Does That Web Site Run On? and ISS was left unscathed by stuff like heartblead which wholesale compromised almost all Apache installs. As with everything a lot of it is down to patching and configuration.

Chromebooks are terrible on 365, the little hybrid tablets and even the Surface 2 RTs are quite good but are again hobbled by MSs insistence on segregating O365 accounts and live accounts then not letting Windows 8 logon with O365 accounts directly but requiring separate live accounts and management tools. It is plain as day but they seem to blind or arrogant to do anything about it. Allow 365 accounts to automatically host live extensions like personal onedrive and Windows8 logon then add the option to transition just those personal services to an @Outlook.com account later to keep them tied in. Also bundle Intune with O365 or at least offer perpetual licences like the Chromebook ones.

They would be stupid to pull the 32bit switch now after releasing so many 32bit only tablets into the market. Not saying they won't do that but they would be stupid to. I think most of the Office365 integration stuff is not a limitation of the OS but a reflection of the absolute shambles they have made behind the scenes with authentication to do with 365 and live, they wanted to separate them but just ended up hobbeling both of them. Again, a possibly good idea but implemented thoughtlessly and carelessly.

We will have been on 8 for quite a while when 9 comes out, may wait a month or two for the glaring issues to be worked out but it looks incremental and if they keep it up with the speed and efficiency improvements it will be a no brainer and blow the doors off 8 which blew the doors off 7 performance wise.

I would look at the AV/firewall and get them to do a route print when at home along with a tracert to some slow sites. May need a couple of tech savey ones but may shed some light.

Sounds like you have had a bad time of it, I have to mirror the above comments and say that it runs the same for up on out older 7 builds and our current 8.1 builds. Hope the patches have resolved it.

Drill a hole through the wall and use cat6, you may get a flakey, reported 10g link with cat5 over like 4-5m but it will be absolute junk thanks to a bunch of it being used up by errors and retransmissions. Cat5 isn't even really up for gig oven much distance. Sure it will report as gig but your actual data rate will be lower thanks to errors on the cable you'd never pick up with out full packet logging on.

Why would hardware refresh cycle matter, 8 is faster on hardware that would run 7.

Even 8.1 has been out for almost a year now, there has been plenty of time to upgrade and see the benefits but if 7 is working for you all good. This long wait approach is getting less tenable a position as the release cycle is speeding up, we hopefully won't be having any more decade old OSs like XP lulling everyone to sleep.

I can give you a quick summary, it is transparent VPN over SSL pushed out via group policy, if the laptop has access to ssl over an internet connection at all it will transparently make two tunnels. One tunnel for computer/pre-logon traffic like policies and software installs and another for user data. The user does nothing, but they have transparent access to internal resources like shared drives and intranet pages. Bit of a pain to set up and way more of one if using 2008 R2 rather than one of the 2012 varients but a nice bit of software. Supported in Windows 7 (Pro I think) and above.

Liked the new Episode, Steven Moffat can really turn out a great episode, all about managing fear and messed up time lines, the new series is finally hitting it's stride as far as I can se.

May just be me but my IE11 system is pretty clean and running latest gen hardware, still locks up and won't scroll on long threads after a little while with IE11. Anyone else getting this?
