Hmm, When i Google all the current issues im having, the majority of the responses point to DNS issues... I ran NetDiag on my 2003 DC, it mainly passes but i have a couple of warnings The first is Wha? My default gateway is filled in under the NIC's IP properties. Pinging gets destination unreachable. Funny thing is, ive just tried to image a laptop and it errored on Default Gateway.... The second lost is I have no idea what those two are....i'm wondering whether Link2ICT have put them in when they were faffing with something. Should i just remove them? I kinda thought all my DNS would be dealt with internally? DNS is not my strong point so learning the hard way here. Any help appreciated!!

Ooh ok. Yeah i think there were SChannel errors actually....

or something like that. I fixed it by removing the machine from the domain and adding it again. Simple. But now im left with why? Why did it happen? What exactly did removing and adding it again do?!

Im starting to think this is also the same problem as this one: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/100920-netbook-gp-errors.html I thought i'd test a software deployment on my virtual XP machine. It was a fresh install so added it to domain and waited for it to pick up the GP's. RSOP errored saying "group policy infrastructure fauled due to the error listed below - a directory service error has occured". So i checked event log. Thats throwing up: and Brain fried....

Right, ive tried the above. No joy... Why has this happened? Whats changed? These netbooks were moved over to Hogwarts when we had the fire, setup on the wireless over there, then both the wireless and netbooks came back here. Everything else is fine, including another trolley i have setup. Part of me wonders whether to just stick Win 7 on em anyway...

Ello, My XP Netbooks dont want to work for me at the moment. I was having trouble getting the wireless to work so had a look and it was warning me that the cert hadnt been downloaded. I did an RSOP and there seems to be an error with it downloading any sort of GPO. Its getting the error I've removed the machine im testing from AD and put it back just incase it was because they'd dropped of the network. It can ping my DC via name and IP. Kinda stumped....

What about those that can only pay via PO?

A longshot but does anyone know if there is somewhere the may give a discount for 3 being purchased at once? For a collegue.

Ok here's a daft one. The little box which houses the RCD for the room is next to the bigger box with different areas of the school. I'm guessing there was no more physical space in the big box, hence having its own. But new cables would've been run as like I said this area didn't have electricity before. Sound about right? So run from old box, new cabling. Another thing that's just dawned on me is my mahussive new sparkling master cab, which is also up with me has its own separate power supply which is connected to the main fuse board (I suck at the terminology) . Lol would it be bad practice to run my ups/servers from that.....

Is there any numpty guides to stuff like this? You guys lost me a few posts ago and I don't like that lol!

*sigh* it's such a long story and a bit political The servers are in a better position then they were before - believe me. I think something is gonna need upgrading, but the council aren't gonna pay for it - boy I'm gonna be popular when I tell them this. :/ I haven't found the point of overload. What's interesting is it's the holidays, my colleague is in but doubt she'd have gone round switching loads of things on. It's happened three times now, once when my UPS brought all the servers up at one (there's 4 varying makes and models), another time when no one was around and the office manager rang to tell me she couldn't log in and sometime this afternoon.

After the fire we had a few modifications made to the school. I have moved myself and the servers to another area of the school. This area didnt have any sort of power supply until now. The electricians have put a small box with a single RCD (?) in purely for this area. Im starting to think its not strong enough as since I've moved the servers up there it keep flicked off a couple of times. I know nothing about this sort of thing, am I on the right lines? Is it something that can be fixed or do I have to maybe reduce the amount of servers up with me? So frustrating, they are on a UPS but they don't come back up and it's hard when I'm at home!

If anybody has this software could you pm me?

Oh I don't doubt that at all @Michael! I just can't bring myself to do it....I've just about got them using Zimbra! I think I need to read about what else I can get from 365. Certainly don't have the cash at the moment for an exchange server.

Im after some gentle nudges in the right direction. I'm investigating the use of sharepoint in school, document libraries for the staff to start off with, then maybe more. I know nothing about sharepoint and the tutorials I've found all seems to assume some prior knowledge and setup. I need something from the ground up! I eagerly await your suggestions
