Hi, The NM before me setup deskman on a pupil laptop. In his notes he left the password for it but no instructions on how to access the password window. I've done some google'ing and Im having no luck can any one help me out please? I need to setup new printer drivers on this laptop so the pupil coursework can be printed. Cheers

Hi, Im in the proccess of redesigning the schools intranet system. What do you all use and what content should go on the intranet. The intranet site will be mainly used for students and a staff section (staff room) which will need to be secure. any help, ideas, tips much appreciated cheers.

cheers for that. right here is what I've done for students so far I've created 2 sitelists for students School blacklist 1 School blacklist 2 then I ticked a few boxes in the Block Global forbidden sites adult alcohol auction nudity chat discrim personals drugs porn schoolcheat gambling games sex gross illega swimsuit tobacco violence lingerie weapons Ive added a few band sites to school black list 1 and 2 that done I then created a Group called 'Students' and set the following permissions Users belonging to this group have access to the following services - - email: Tick - web: Tick Web access rules These rules apply in order, so the first rule to match the time-band and site list will cause the specified action. Allow global permited sites - Always Block school black list 1 - Always Block school black list 1 - Always Block Global forbidden sites - always Allow all other sites I then created a user called liam and added him to the 'Students' Group. so I now do a test to see if facebook.com is banned and I get through to the site. So I decide to run a test on that url under 'Test Url Filtering and I get the following result. Filter results Starting filter check for user 'liam' URL: 'http://www.facebook.com' HOST: 'www.facebook.com' PATH: '' Check Special Circumstances: PASSED. Check User Limit: PASSED Apply global rules: - Apply rules for group 'Global rules' - Apply filter: global permitted sites (WHITE) - - Timeband: At all times. - - REGEXP-List: No Match. Hi gang, I'm in need of some help We took delivery of cachepilot V4 about 5 month ago and Its not been installed since the old NM left. I've been busy getting to know the network before I make any changes. The cachepilot been one of them and I've not installed one before I have put a couple of days aside to get it up and running. Now I had some problems this morning getting the stupid thing to work with the limited useless instruction manual, but now I've hit a snag. I need to setup white and black lists for staff and student groups. I'm not sure how to go about doing this and would appreciate some help. Does anyone have an easy guide? I am also wanting to implement active directory authentication, and a kind chap from the council emailed me the attached instruction manual on how to do this, but I'm already stuck with that. I totaly agree here, I learnt that at first hand. imo the legal stuff comes first. Changing bits of the network is not perfesional and should be a graduale proccess working with staff where needed.

Have to say I agree with GrumbleDook and others. I took over as NM for a secondary school and Im starting to make my way through what licences we have. Im actually looking for a program to help me figure out what is what and how many machines each software can be installed on. Looking at what we have here, seems like it could take a wee while. whats the best hardware to run this gallery2.. its seems a little slow with me after adding 1 album. I can see it been slower with more albums and people searching for pictures. when I say slow, its taking 5+sec to load album. that about right?

If I go down that route would I be able to print the inventory of all hardware for the bursur to show to the auditors?

Hi, Our current inventory is on an excel sheet, Its a night mare to find hardware on it and to keep it up to date. Does any one know where I can download an inventory program that will allow me to search, add price, serial numbers, date ordered, description etc. Thank you Kev
